  2. It's actually the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Book fanboing aside, it was filmed beautifully. It looks like a movie :O! And yet we get 10 hours of it :D!

  3. I was debating if I wanted to watch this or wait for the first episode to air..... of course I ended up watching it.

WOW! The thing that is most impressive to me, other than the brilliant acting and source material, is how impressive the sets and the overall look of Westeros are! It looks like a real world you could travel to and live inside. So many fantasy adventure or medieval series look.. well... less than stellar. They seem sparse and like they were created by the drama department of a community college at times. This world HBO and the creative team made is so layered, so filled with detail that it just seems real.

  6. Agreed. I was a little surprised or maybe leery of the first scene of the series.... To people that have not read the books it may seem like it is a supernatural series where these people are fighting these "wildling" monsters and that is not a very large part of the books.I mean it is part of the background, but it is about so much more than just wlidling "monsters". Maybe I am over thinking... I have been accused of that before... one or twice...

  7. Well I guess that would be my major criticism of what we saw.

The opening scene in the book, though well written, was exactly what was expected of your average fantasy novel cold open. As the book progressed, the dialogue hinted at the quality of story we were being told, but it wasn't until the event that will likely end the first episode that made me realise, holy crap, I'm holding the greatest fantasy novel ever. He's breaking the rules! All of them!

What was annoying about this particular portion of the adaptation is that they switched the roles of Will and Gerard. Gerard, the older guy who had seen many seasons as a member of the Watch, was the one to desert in the novels. The fact that he was so afraid of the white walker that he deserted even after all of his years of service was kind of the point. It drove home the fact that the White Walker shouldn't have existed and that the monster/fantasy aspect of the book wasn't to be expected regularly.

Now, it's only during a discussion between Bran and Ned at the beheading that we get a feel for how important this encounter was. I hope that it won't scare people away.

Ignore my nitpicking though lol, it was still absolutely wonderful :D.

Also, True Blood is about monsters and it gets awesome ratings. Here's to hoping that GoT surpasses them!

  8. OH I wa not against monster shows, I love them, but I just thought it may give some the wrong idea.

Have you seen the feature on creating the Dothraki language? It will make you forget your worries about Jason Momoa!

  9. Lol, no I know, I was just saying that I worry that while the novel hinted more strongly at this being an unusual event, the show doesn't necessarily convey that until the beheading scene. If monsters are going to make you tune out, you'll be gone by then.

And no, I have not! I'll go check it out now lol.

  11. I'm going to hold off on watching just because I want to be completely wowed for the first time on premiere night... but reading the comments, I'm getting really hyped! It seems that the book has been translated well, and that's all I ever hoped. HBO does it again!
