The Second Chance
Jimmy's cousin Mike (Skyler Stone) is back. After taking off with like-minded individuals six months ago, he comes back in an RV married to Tanya. Not only did he have a wife now, he also got three brother-husbands, Jeff, Chester, and Rodney. He's now in a reverse gender polygamist relationship. Neat. It's not the first time he belonged to a cult or a religion. Except his new partners were leaving him. Not neat. Mike's brother-husbands realize that he was really not that into them; he only had eyes for Tanya. Mike failed to understand that their relationship is a five-way intersection, not a two-way street.
The polygamists stick around for one more day to fix their RV.
Virginia had no intention of letting Mike live in a pup tent while listening to Richard Marx. He was invading her laundry room slash chick cave. Seeing how quickly Jimmy was sucked in by the cult, it gave her an idea how to get rid of Mike and the others, by helping him redeem himself with a little song and visual presentation.
Burt learned why his brother Bruce thought he was a loser all this time. By being too nice to Mike, Bruce lost his son. Burt needed to find a way to bring Mike back. Again we got to see Burt think so hard, he only thinks of the word think. He does come up with an idea, cooking up a kidnapping hoax to get help from the police, telling them the cult took Hope. He just didn't count on being thrown in jail for thirty days.
In the end, Burt redeemed himself too by reuniting father and son.
Where was Maw Maw in all this? She was playing hide-and-go-seek and boo-ya-ing for days, on the roof, under a lamp shade, and in the fireplace, before finally coming out of hiding.
More memorable moments:

Acting sad
With the internet and phone cameras, police cannot be seen exercising brutality.
Son of a biscuit
Osmond family cover band
The same TV newsman mentioned Burt was a one-time internet sensation.

Great recap! I loved it. Loved the topicalness of the polygamist family, but with a reverse twist. And the Gollum impression was funny. Shouldn't Hope be walking now? Nevermind, doesn't matter. The show is consistently very good, and this episode didn't disappoint.
ReplyDeleteThe "divorce ritual" is very offensive. This kind of abuse would not be funny if it were reversed! If a man said to a woman....you know the divorce ritual and she stood there while he slapped her there would be an uproar. I don't understand why a woman is not only allowed to just kick this guy in the balls. I really don't understand why it's supposed to be funny.
