Welcome to another week of Question of the Day. Sorry I did not post on Friday, but our Internet was down all day! Anyway, hope you all had great weekends.
Today's Question of the Day comes from John Crud who asks.
"Which TV Show would you like to see a reboot of?"
This is an awesome question! There are so many old shows that I'd love to see get a makeover.
Earth 2, The Fantastic Journey, Blakes 7, UFO, The Odd Couple, Space 1999, Dark Skies to name a few, but I think the one I'd love to see given a reboot is Blake's 7! I simply loved this show growing up.
From Wikipedia.
Blake's 7 is a British science fiction television series produced by the BBC for its BBC1 channel. Created by Terry Nation, a prolific television writer best known for creating the popular Dalek monsters for the television series Doctor Who, it ran for four series between 1978 and 1981. Popular from the time it was first broadcast, it remains well regarded[1] on account of its dystopian tone, moral ambiguity and strong characterisation. It is also remembered for the dramatic ending which concluded the series.
Blake's 7 follows the exploits of a group of political renegades, led by freedom fighter Roj Blake, and consisting initially of Blake, Jenna Stannis and Kerr Avon. They escape from a prison transport spacecraft and occupy an abandoned spacecraft called by them Liberator with a main computer called Zen. Vila Restal and Olag Gan are rescued from the prison planet Cygnus Alpha and are later joined by the alien telepath Cally. Later, a supercomputer called Orac is procured. Gan is killed during the second series. After the second series, Blake and Jenna disappear and are replaced by new characters Dayna Mellanby and Del Tarrant. In the fourth series, Cally dies and is replaced by a new character, Soolin. Following the destruction of the Liberator, the computer Zen is replaced with Slave, a new computer character, part of the newly acquired ship "Scorpio". The group are pursued through space by Space Commander - and later renegade - Travis and Servalan, Supreme Commander and later President of the Terran Federation.
So what about you? Which show(s) would you love to see given a reboot and brought back to life?
Sound off in the comments.

Thanks for all your suggestions and questions that you have been submitting, I try to pick out ones that I find interesting myself and that I think you'd all enjoy discussing. If I have not used one of yours yet, don't worry, it maybe tomorrows QOD!.

I don't really know! Hawaii Five-0 is an awesome reboot, even though I haven't seen the original. (Have seen some DVD sets at Wal-Mart, though.)
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything!
I would love to see a reboot of "The Fall Guy" or "Sports Night". Both were fun shows and I looked forward to both as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI think 3rd Rock from the sun was pretty funny... but maybe not anymore with other actors... I don't know.
ReplyDeleteOr Remington Steele!!
Hart to Hart. The original starred Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as a loving married couple who solved crimes together. Kind of like last year's Undercovers, but better.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer if they would just stop trying to reboot every older show, and come up with some fresh ideas.
ReplyDeleteThey come up with fresh ideas all the time.
ReplyDeleteThey just normally suck.
Captain Planet.
ReplyDeleteIt's always Captain Planet.
it maybe wayyy to early, but I would love to see a reboot of Heroes, a reboot that assumes only the first season of the show and changes everything from season two onwards... But the problem is, there is no audience for that kinda show anymore on networks, maybe some premium cable channels can do it... :)
ReplyDeleteFor me the answer would have to be (funnily enough) the children's television show "Reboot". It was one of those shows that was fun for kids, but had adult enough references that people of any age could watch and enjoy. The show developed more mature themes as it went along and the visuals improved by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, with 4 or 5 episodes left planned, the show suddenly ended with a cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteThere has been some effort and talk since the show ended to make some feature length movies, or at least to finish up the show, but at this point, I think a Reboot might be more appropriate (I'm not a huge fan of reboots in general). The graphics would be more consistent, the plot more tightly wound, and the outdated cultural references/computer references could be made to be more relevant.
I read once that Tim Kring wanted to keep the main cast of the show changing every season to keep the storylines fresh. But after the success of the first season and seeing how much audience liked characters like Hiro and Peter, the networks refused to take such a big risk by changing the ensemble altogether. I still wonder how the show would have turned out if it was allowed to play out as intended.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I think it would have been SO much more moving/awesome if everyone had actually died as planned *SPOILER ALERT* (namely, Peter, Nathan, Matt, and Sylar). It was awesome BECAUSE it was so similar to a well planned story arc in a comic book and yet it failed for the EXACT same reason (i.e. comic books go to strange lengths to bring back the dead and turn every meaningful moment into a series of poorly retconned "twists").
ReplyDeleteI would like to see a reboot of the short-lived NBC show 'Surface"... I had never heard of the show until it started airing late night long after it was canceled. I remember me and my brother watching the show and really enjoying it. After a few episodes we were wondering why it's not coming anymore only to look it up on the internet and realize that it was canceled. :(
ReplyDeleteThat aired the same year as "Invasion," I think. Such an awesome show but it had a slow build-up, which I'm sure put people off. It only had one season but check it out if you liked "Surface."
ReplyDeleteChips. I always loved that show, and I think a reboot with Jon and Ponch as the Captain and Lieutenant, and a new set of California Highway Patrol Officers, filmed in a format much like Southland, would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see Twin Peaks as a reboot! I loved that show, but in the second season it went off the deep end and was canceled. If they could come up with off the wall stuff like season 1 had, and keep the story line going, another Twin Peaks would be great! "that's some damn fine coffee!"
ReplyDeleteThat's a great question. I'd love to see "Quantum Leap", "Fall Guy", "It takes a thief", Hart to Hart would be good, but no one can top Robert Wagner as Jonathan Hart, so don't even try that one. Oh and "Time Tunnel" that would be awsome. I'm sure if I think about it some more, I could come up with a lot more. :-) But actually I doubt that any reboot would be as awsome as Hawaii Five-0. Saw the original when it aired (ups that does show my age, doesn't it) but the new one is waaayyyyyy better.
ReplyDeleteYes Quantum Leap!
ReplyDeleteFirefly I know fans are still dying a little inside because of it being cut so short i've never seen it myself but I've heard enough to voice it's (hopeful ) return along with all the other brown coats. :)
ReplyDeleteAn Addams family remake would be awesome.
The Fugitive a remake of that would be EPIC (I think anyway.)
Eerie Indiana
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love to see a reboot of Starsky & Hutch, and, (since I'm a big western fan), I'd LOVE to see a reboot of The Big Valley, Bonanza or Lancer.
ReplyDeleteQuantum Leap
ReplyDeleteAgreed!! It was the most awesome show ever! BUT I think it would be really difficult to replace the actors.
ReplyDeleteEarth 2! :D I didn't even remember that show until I saw mention of it when reading this page. :) I remember it was one of my fave series when I was younger. I'd love to see a reboot of '7 Days'. :D
ReplyDeleteI was never a fan of the show, never seen in fact but when I saw the question of the day I immediately thought of MIAMI VICE? With a remake of Hawaii 5-O doing quite well for CBS why not go down the same route with Miami Vice except less cheesy, bring it up to date with lots of sex, drugs, violence and good music?!
ReplyDeleteAlien Nation. I heard the SyFy channel was trying to do this but I don't believe it ever happened.
ReplyDeleteI would say Who's The Boss? but God knows Tony Danza would find a way to be a part of the show.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that there is a possible Munsters reboot in the making, with Kristen Bell being looked at as a possible Marilyn.

There was a Miami Vice Movie made about 5-6 years ago, Collin Farrell was in it.
ReplyDeletemiami vice
ReplyDeleteT.J. Hooker
ReplyDeleteLost!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly joking :)
It's a bit too soon
I could get behind a Twin Peaks reboot. I first watched the show fairly recently, and it hasn't aged that well, IMO. There was just a serious disconnect for me when this very seemingly-serious show suddenly and inexplicably devolved into an FBI agent actually basing his case around the dreams he was having, and that just didn't fit for me, especially since modern day interpretations of the FBI agents are incredibly tight-shirt, by-the-books types, which conflicts with the main character's representation.
ReplyDeleteThey also brought the supernatural elements of the show in too late. In the beginning I assumed that the show's supernatural elements that I knew were to come would naturally work within the pre-established rules of the universe, but instead the supernatural elements seemed to introduce new rules unto themselves as soon as they were introduced that didn't necessarily fit with this all-too-realistic world established in the first few episodes.
However, a reboot could address both of these problems and deliver the show to a new generation that understands TV and storytelling differently than it was understood back then.
Seriously?
ReplyDeleteLove this idea. Hart to Hart and Scarecrow and Mrs. King were favorites in my house growing up.
ReplyDeleteSliders. But only if Arturo was in every episode, Maggie didn't exist or had a massive character rewrite, and no one, absolutely no one, mentions Kromaggs ever again.
ReplyDeleteAh, Sliders. Jerry O'Connell ruins everything. Even Sabrina Lloyd and Johnathan Rhys-Davies wasn't enough to allow me to overlook his presence. It's too bad. It was a good concept.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a reboot of the original Power Rangers... you know, the Mighty Morphin' kind? Same costumes, same Zords and same Villains (Rita and Zedd) - just updated to todays standards... that'd be awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteFirefly, The Twilight Zone
ReplyDeleteThe Twilight Zone! That would be interesting. I love the idea of having a completely different cast every week.
ReplyDeleteI think Damon Lindeloff, and Jeff Pinker would both be awesome at Writing and or producing a rebooted Twilight Zone. Remember the old ones with Rod Sterling, doing his intros and final comments. Could you imagine some of the awesome plot twists, and such that those two can come up with. And think how cool it would be for those two to intro and comment before and after each episode.
ReplyDeleteWay cool! And who would mind if some of the better episodes were recycled, like the frozen lamb, Eye of the Beholder, and the one where the guy wants nothing more than to be the only person left on earth so he can read books, then it happens and, DUH! his glasses break! I'm all for it. And Lindelof would be much funnier than Serling :)
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly, I like how in the 80's they rebooted TZ, and remember they redid the William Shatner episode where he went crazy on the plane, with John Lithgow. They could do the same thing again here. Also did you know that the movie that came out last year with Cameron Diaz and James Mardsen was based on an old TZ story called "the button".
ReplyDeleteI had to think about it but yes, I do now remember TZ from the 80s. Pretty good.
ReplyDeleteMystery Science Theater 3000.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a modern day M*A*S*H.. though I don't know if they could pass war off as funny anymore..
ReplyDeleteGlee :)
