Welcome to the final Question of the Day for this week. Today's question comes from rochey_1
"Favourite song you have heard in a movie or TV show, and why you like it ?"
Well there are so many to choose from but I have to admit it didn't take me too long to pick my favourite. It's a song by Q Lazzurus called "Goodbye Horses" which was used in the film Silence of the Lambs when Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) is going through his "change" and is dancing to the music. I loved this scene for it's creepiness and always loved the song.
You can listen to the track below.
So, what about you? What is your Favorite song which was used in a TV Show or Movie? Let us know in the comments the Song, Show/Movie and why you liked it. If you have a link to the video/audio please post it in the comments.
Have a great weekend everyone.
And please keep submitting your Questions of the Day Below using the form.

"I See The Light" from Tangled by Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore, because I immediately get goosebumps and tears pop in my eyes...every single time I hear it. :)
ReplyDeleteMad World, the end of Donnie Darko
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PUFJmsCZLE
Yeah, of course! And also the awesome introductory scene in the beginning has a great song: Head Over Heels
ReplyDeleteDude. Love that song, and every time I hear it, it reminds me of D.D..
ReplyDeleteI really always loved the Life and Death theme from Lost. I love playing it on my Spanish guitar. I always think of Charlie's death scene, and the first time a TV show made me cry, yeah I'll admit it, and it wasn't the last time that song jerk a tear or two out of my big head. Life and Death is a genius piece of music, and that's all there is to say.
ReplyDelete'Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale' a song that's been planted in my memory forever. Giligan's Island was a fun show and the song is like a sea shanty. :)
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the Beast- need I remind everyone of a Disney masterpiece? Golden age....sigh.
Mother know's best- tangled love it. :D
Whenever Desmond's theme comes up I sit upright in my chair it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteOne word: Community :D ( Getting rid of Britta, Pierce U´re a B ) :D
ReplyDelete"Pale Blue Eyes" by The Velvet Underground.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of Fringe 3x14 "6B". I love this song.
"War Sweater" by Wakey!Wakey! in OTH when Peyton went in the hospital at theend of the season 6. "Quiet in my Town" by Civil Twilight when Quentin he's dead around the beggining of the season 6 of OTH, I cried mostly because of the song.
Suicide is Painless from MASH (just because it's associated with 11 seasons worth of a show and every time I hear it it gives me goosebumps thinking about "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen").
ReplyDeleteIf LOST's music counts as "songs", the Life and Death theme as well as Ben's (Dharmacide) are wonderful. Desmond's too!
Otherwise, I'm a big fan of the classic rock used in Supernatural (Back in Black, Carry on my Wayward Son, etc). It really suits the mood.
Charlie Terrell - Redneck Gigolo from the incredibly underrated movie gem Poolhall Junkies:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXlo2wzSuBM
Always reminds of the good times I had when I first saw this movie.
And I also love the theme from The Boondock Saints:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2hPUQNhMVo
I never really paid attention to Irish music before that, but this beautiful song changed that. I even learned to play the tin whistle.
"How Deep is Your Love" from Saturday Night Fever.
ReplyDelete"Suddenly I See" from The Devil Wears Prada
"I'll Fly Away" from O Brother Where art Thou, in fact that entire soundtrack. I have the CD and play it a lot.
"Sound of Silence" (Paul Simon) from The Graduate
"Angel" (Sarah MacLachlan) from City of Angels
"I Shall not Walk Alone" (Blind Boys of Alabama) from Lost, end of the episode "Confidence Man"
Score from Lost: Life and Death, Jack's Theme, Sun's Theme
I totally forgot Born Slippy from Trainspotting. Great movie and great song:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMQVwYjJz6s
I also liked the soundtracks of the first 2 Blade movies as well as the Spawn soundtrack. On the Blade soundtrack they did a great job matching electronic acts with rappers and on the Spawn soundtrack electronic acts teamed up with hard rock bands. Some of those collaborations were awesome!
"Carry On My Wayward Son" on Supernatural. This song is just beyond epic and it suits the show like it has been created especially for it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, although the show has been going downhill for quite a while, I've always loved songs on Grey's Anatomy - "Chasing cars", "Off I go", "How to save a life", "End of all time", "The way it ends" and the one I am totally addicted to, "Broken" by Lifehouse. And so much more.
And some songs I heard on One Tree Hill, "Dare you to move", "May angels lead you in" - including Bethany Joy Galeotti's songs - I love her as a singer so much!
Dude I was just playing Suicide is Painless yesterday on my guitar.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! The soundtrack to the graduate! Scarborough Fair and Mrs. Robinson too! Sound of Silence is definitely my favourite though.
ReplyDelete"How to save a life" - "Breathe" - "Chasing Cars" - "Off I go" - "Street Lights" on Grey's
ReplyDelete"Hometown Glory" on One Tree Hill
"Dancing On My Own" - "Sour Cherry" - "Hard to Live" - "With You" - "Apologize" on Gossip Girl
"Bloodstream" - "Losing Your Memory" - "Wires" - "I Was Wrong" - "Head Over Heels" - "No Way Out" - "Breathe Again" - "Wonderful Life" - "DLZ" on The Vampire Diaries
"Kettering" - "Silvia" - "Young Blood" on Chuck
"Open Your Eyes" on Brothers and Sisters
"Don't Stop Believin'" - "Valerie" on Glee
"Cosmic Love" on V
"What Else Is There" on nip/tuck
Anything from Lost really.
ReplyDeleteFor Movies a friend send me The Island soundtrack before the movie came out and the now famous "My Name Is Lincoln" is still my fave and the most moving song I've ever heard.
Haha that one is awesome
ReplyDeleteKansas - Carry on my wayward son,in the beginning and the ending each episode of "Supernatural"
ReplyDeleteSmashing Pumpkins - Disarm
ReplyDeleteSeries finale of "The Shield"
Sia - Breathe Me
This one is good, from Six Feet Under series finale, the best one (series finale) ever.
Completely off topic question, but how do you think Grey's is going downhill? That seems to be a popular notion (not Sometimes a Great Notion though), no one who I've asked seems to be able to pinpoint it though.
ReplyDelete"Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits, from the Season 2 finale of The West Wing
ReplyDeleteI really don't think it's going downhill at all this season! If anything, it's in a creative upswing. I would argue that season 5 and much of 6 were the series lowpoints people refer to in regards to the going downhill for a while.
ReplyDeleteSeason 5 suffered from the poor pacing in the Izzy/Brain Tumour Sex plot. Not helping things along was the strange Lexie/George thing where George was an insensitive jerk for no reason at all.
Season 6 began on a terrible note in that it dealt with George's death VERY poorly. The story was not particularly moving and yet George was a fan favourite. The lame Mercy Westers were also no fun.
Suddenly, Season 6 finale is A) phenomenally intense and moving and B) infuses the series with a reason to continue. Since then, I've really loved season 7 :).
"Carry On, Wayward Son" by Kansas. It always brings a smile to my face when I hear this song and I always think of Sam and Dean from Supernatural. Because, frankly, how could you not smile when you see them?!
ReplyDeleteOh right, lol, Disney!
ReplyDeleteYou've Got a Friend in Me always gets me (Toy Story).
Exactly, the season six finale really gave the show a new lease of life, its awesome, that's why I don't understard or agree with people saying it's going downhill :)
ReplyDeleteI can't really pinpoint one song, but I really enjoy these soundtracks:
ReplyDelete.
Sound of Music - Julie Andrews voice! Highlight: "Favorite Things" by Julie Andrews
.
Notting Hill - Great mix of fabulous songs. Highlight: "She" by Elvis Costello
.
Pretty Woman - Great mix! Highlight: "Real Wild Child" by Iggy Pop
.
Sister Act - Every song here is fantastic. Highlight: "I will follow him" by the ensamble
.
Philadephia - I could always cry when I hear this song "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen
I checked your blog to hear you play this, but Sendspace is saying it's no longer available. Would you have it on YouTube?
ReplyDeleteSongs from Sleepless in Seattle, especially "Make Someone Happy," Jimmy Durante.
ReplyDeleteBob Dylan's "The Man In Me" opening The Big Lebowski. It always puts a huge grin on my face. It's like comfort food.
ReplyDeletehttp://vimeo.com/7922485
No I'm trying to figure out how to get it from my pc to Facebook and so far no good any suggestions? I'd love to post it and get peoples opinions. It's Audio I don't have a webcam so no youtube. I'll try reloading it on send space.
ReplyDeleteAlways felt this theme song from angel just set the tone for the show PERFECTLY! It's by Darling Violetta and called "Angel's Theme" on my CD, but this version (which seems like a remix to me) is called "The Sanctuary".
ReplyDeleteAngel's Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPnkB_cKKi8
The Diva's song (Il Dolce Suono ) from The Fifth Element combining classical opera, orchestra and alien trance rhythms always made me dance in my seat . Two versions here. One with footage from the movie, but it has some movie action news over the song, and one of the artist herself with no movie footage or sound effects.

Three iconic films from the 80s, Pretty in Pink and Valley Girl have many songs to choose form but here are two songs that just connected me PERFECTLY to the films. 80's music and movies have a place in my heart. So much better than the teen movies today.
OMD "If You Leave" from Pretty in Pink
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGawOk107eU
Modern English "I Melt with You" from Valley Girl (Also the original trailer just for fun)
Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf8b_x9FA6E

Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes" from Say Anything

The scene in Lost in Translation makes me tear up as this song plays.
Jesus & the Mary Chain "Just Like Honey" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKN3QodIRW8
"The Killing Moon" by Echo & The Bunnymen was used in Donnie Darko, in a UK Supernatural ad, The Girl Next Door OST, Misfits, Groos Point Blank and the film Gia. All-around sensual and moody song that more people should have in their playlists! I think it fits best with Donnie Darko. In the film it plays during opening credits, but in The Director's Cut it plays after the Halloween party near the end.

One of my ALL-TIME favorite Soundtracks along with Valley Girl, Donnie Darko, Pump Up the Volume, Pretty in Pink, Gross Point Blank, Spinal Tap, Garden State and a few others.....
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! The guitar gives a different feel and the lovely melody really stands out. Thanks -- I loved it.
ReplyDeleteOH I forgot "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire by A.R. Rahman.
ReplyDeleteI love "world beat" music.. Afro-Cuban Jazz, Rai and Indian Folk music etc...

How could I forget Breath Me. It's the song I wake up to almost every morning (use it as alarm sound on my mobile phone).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words, I'm glad you liked it. I was inspired by a clip of a guy called Dharmickey playing it on a ukulele on Dark UFO it was either during the hiatus, between 5-6 or right at the beginning of the season when he submitted it to Dark UFO's Fan Media section if ya feel like searching for it. I love his rendition the uke is such a great little instrument.
ReplyDeleteSia - "Breathe Me" ("Six Feet Under" finale)
ReplyDeleteOne of those rare times that the cover version of a song was much, much, MUCH better than the original by Tears For Fears.
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember the song in the "real" Scrubs finale at the end of season 8? The Book Of Love, but it wasn't the original version. But that was pretty great too.
ReplyDeleteOH another one I forgot was from a soundtrack, but it's from The O.C. Soundtrack. Vampire Dairies AND one of the Twilight films I have been informed.
ReplyDeletePlacebo "Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush Cover)"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KEEXyRL0qE
Absolutely! The entire soundtrack is great!
ReplyDeletei don't know if it's my favorite but new year's prayer jeff buckley from dead zone
ReplyDeleteWell for me, the medical cases they solve used to be much more exciting to follow than now. Now it all seems about relationships and the doctors' personal lives - which I'm not saying is bad, it's just, there used to be more medical stuff into it than now. And another thing that bugs me, is that now almost everyone is just living happily ever after - there are those unbreakable couples and it's getting boring. I wish they would break up some of those couples - like Callie/Arizona, Mark/Lexie, Cristina/Owen - but not just for a while, permanently (for example, I LOVE the Lexie/Jackson pairing, but I'm pretty sure it won't last and she'll go back to Mark, cause they're apparently "meant to be"). It would add a bit spice to it. Oh, and then all the baby talk. Suddenly everyone wants to have or is having a baby. Give me a break.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, I don't like some of the new characters, like Teddy (she's beyond boring and lacks personality) or that April girl. I used to like Charles and Reed, but they killed them off (in an amazing season finale, btw. It definitely WAS epic, I'm not saying it wasn't). And it also pisses me off that they don't know what to do with Alex after Izzie left. Just give the guy a storyline already!
There, have I pinpointed it enough?
although I do agree season 7 is better than season 6, most of which I don't even remember.
Any Jeff Buckley is good! Such a tragic story....
ReplyDeleteAnything on Supernatural....
ReplyDeleteAnd I really love Every Me and Every You in the opening of Cruel Intentions, and also Colorblind playing during the love scene....
Found it: http://twiturm.com/h5282
ReplyDeleteReally nice, with a cool ending.
It might be hard to find now, but did you happen to see the Jimmy Kimmel/Matthew Fox spoof of In Your Eyes? Funny.
ReplyDeleteGreat question that's had me thinking all day. From Bond movies, two favorites:
ReplyDeleteLive and Let Die, Paul McCartney, from the movie of that name
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK2hKzZss5Y
and All Time High, Rita Coolidge, from Octopussy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ohT1LfhC7M
Yeah, I course you have ;) I really think it just comes down to everyone's personal taste, I mean this Lexie Jackson pairing just isn't doing it for me at all, I guess that's because I've never really liked either of their characters that much, then there's Charles, who I never liked, but Reed who was actually awesome, and I quite like Teddy as well.
ReplyDeleteThe baby thing is getting on my nerves majorly, but the worst is Alex, he's always irritated me to be honest because he never seems to have a storyline without playing off someone else, but even now it's getting worse.
Yeah that was funny!
ReplyDeleteYeah love that! I close my eyes and just about go to the island on the beach camp, eatin a mango, and whatnot.
ReplyDelete"The Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen --
ReplyDeleteSomeone else on here mentioned Donnie Darko. I definitely think this song from the opening scene is haunting, beautiful, creepy, and perfectly sets the tone for the entire film. Plus it's a pretty versatile and popular song-- I've heard it in Supernatural promos as well as some other tv shows, like Misfits.
Definitely The Bunnymen at their sensual best!
ReplyDeleteI love the song "Prophets" by A.C. Newman that played in the fourth season finale of HIMYM, "The Leap". It's an awesome song. There's more, but that's my favorite.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRqWWR8b4Wg
Anything on Supernatural and not just from the show itself but also from promos, gag reels and fan videos. E.g. Carry on Wayward Son, In-a-gadda-da-vida, The Killing Moon, Don't Fear The Reaper, Strangle Hold, Wheel in the Sky, Renegade, Silent Lucidity, Green Peppers, Renegade, Wanted Dead or Alive, Heat of the Moment, Eye of the tiger, Beautiful Loser, O death......I could go and on and on.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural has amazing score thanks to Christopher Lennertz and Jay Gruska as well but without a proper score soundtrack it's hard to pinpoint the exact themes.
Some of my other favorites are:
-Cruel Intentions: Placebo 'Every you every me'
-Transformers: Scorponok (Score)
-28 Weeks Later: 28 Theme (Score)
-Dexter: Dexter Main Title Theme (Score)
-Inception: Dream is Collapsing (Score)
-Buffy: Close your Eyes (Score), K's Choice 'Virgin State of Mind'
-Matrix: Spybreak, Clubbed to death
etc. etc.
Yes, I'm obsessed with score. ;D If a movie doesn't have good music, I'm always disappointed.
Funny question, I was rewatching Angel recently and in the second episode, there is a song by VAST called "Touched" which got in my head.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpx_PcZjByY
A lot of the music featured on Angel is awesome :P
ReplyDelete*pokes VAST: Touched*
Now this was probably the only time a show made me cry. Love that moment when scrubs "ended", ABC really fucked it up though
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jen Titus' version of O Death is really pretty. Ralph Stanley sings it on the soundtrack of O Brother, Where art Thou? Here's his version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYQJNjwGGWk
ReplyDeletepretty much everything in supernatural
ReplyDeletethe big ones being carry on wayward son, heat of the moment, o death, renegade and eye of the tiger
