Pilot Season Competition- Predict Which Shows Will Get Picked Up And Win A Prize!

UPDATE 10/03: We have over 80 entries already. Don't forget to get yours in asap to make sure you're in the competition!

Hey Folks,

Now that the pilot season is in full swing and it's time for networks to start looking at the pilot's that are being made and then picking them up for a full season/half season/miniseries for the 2011-12 season, I've got all of the big networks pilot shows and put them into a prediction competition.

For those unaware of how a series is picked up, the networks ask for a pilot to be produced then when they have them all they select which shows they want to order more episodes for to actually air on their network.

So the idea for the competition is simple, select yes if you think the show will make the air next season, select no if you think the network will decide against ordering any more episodes.

If you get the most predictions correct, you win a $30 dollar (or equivalent for other countries) Amazon Voucher to spend on the latest TV shows, movies or whatever tickles your pickle.

Good Luck, and hope you enjoy the competition... Don't forget to comment below on what you think is a sure fire hit and what you think is puffing on smoke. (plus if you've been paying attention, you should already have one correct answer :P)

Love how the picture is the pilot from the pilot of lost :)
    This will be fun
I doubt I will get any right
Is there a certain limit to the number of news shows each network can pick up?

  3. Ghost Angels was rejected by NBC already

  4. Touch's fate will be decided after the upfronts so if you're announcing the winners in May you may want to remove it from the poll (pilot films mid summer and it is in consideration for midseaon)

  5. I usually watch a lot of pilots and new series that start but out of all those, not one interests me at all. With no Smallville, some good shows most likely gonna be cancelled cuz of ratings like Chuck, fringe etc. Theres hardly gonna be anything left. I'm in England and i have a few ideas for tv series which sound better than most of those, if only i knew how to get my ideas heard.

  6. CBS be damned if persons of interest is not picked

  7. Will everyone just come to their senses and admit Rob Schneider is not funny anymore (if he ever was)?

  8. This is such a tough competition for me! To only basically guess based on short blurbs is nearly impossible, but I guess most of us are on the same playing field! Should be fun... good luck one and all!

  9. I never liked him. At all. I love Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, and whoever else usually shows up in their films... Except for Rob Schneider.

  10. Oh great I am already wrong on one! Ha! I think it sounds stupid, but Ghost Whisperer and Medium lasted longer than I expected too.... so I figured it would make a season or two. Damn!

  11. There's a lot more to this than it seems like at first.

    - You have to ballpark about how many slots for scripted programs are available for each network
    - determine what types of shows the network is looking for and what shows they do well
    - compare strength of cast and production between potential series
    - decide if the pilot has enough mainstream potential to survive network television (this ain't cable)

Long story short, it's taken me most of the afternoon to make my picks.

    CW
Secret Circle, Awakening, Hart of Dixie

    FOX
Weekends at Bellevue, Alcatraz, The Fixer, Locke & Key, Outnumbered, Tagged

    NBC
17th Precinct, Playboy, Prime Suspect, Smash, Wonder Woman, Vodka/Chelsea, I Hate That I Love You, My Life As An Experiment

    CBS
Person Of Interest, Ringer, Rookies, Vince Uncensored, Rob Schneider project (ugh.), Two Broke Girls

  12. Thanks. This was challenging which is what made it fun.

  13. I'm not much of a fan either but he's decent with good writing. I picked this show because it's a family comedy (they're huge right now) and it actually involves a much-maligned minority group and that's huge for CBS (aka Crackertown).

If this show works, and I'm not guaranteeing it will, it will be just what CBS needs.

  14. that is a really good idea .. Count on SpoilerTV Team to be so creative :-)

Personally, I can't judge the shows based on a one line .. I need to see the people acting it & see if I would react to any of them.. that's mostly how I judge a TV show .. but I'm gonna give it a shot since I got a good vibe from some of these one-line description & see if my predictions are close match to what will happen :-)

  15. They could use it for sure. And just because Rob isn't funny (to me), does not mean he couldn't be on a hit show. For that matter, many bad actors or unfunny people are in hit shows...

  16. I didn't choose it for a pickup anyway. FOX hasn't had much luck with high-concept drama lately.

  17. Almost exactly what I put; there were a few differences though, I only put one spare hour of NBC comedy and did Are you there Vodka & Brave New World

  18. Here's my reasoning for the 3 NBC comedies - I think Outsourced and Perfect Couples are both gone and, like last season, I believe they'll debut one comedy in the fall and introduce another in the spring which leaves room for 3 shows.

As for Hallelujah, despite Mark Cherry's success with DH, ABC has a wide array of high-concept, fantasy, and non-procedural dramas on the pilot pile this season. Among those, it seemed that Hallelujah was one of the weaker candidates. I felt that a show like Good Christian Bitches was more in ABC's wheelhouse.

I can't fault you for choosing the Mark Cherry project, though. ABC has been in a big slump since before the strike and I wouldn't put it past the network to pick this show just based on Cherry's past success.

  19. Yeah, the thing is, everytime I read the summary for Hallelujah I can't tell if its fantasy or not, it's not explicit, in the end I thought it wasn't, so I thought its real competition was Good Christian Bitches, and why go for someone you haven't had success with when you could go for what I'm assuming would be a similar show with someone who has provided pretty major success.
I really hope you're wrong about the comedies as well, not about you not winning, but they sound idiotic, Are you there Vodka has the potential to be hilarious (mainly because of Chelsea Handler) but My Life as an Experiment and I Hate that I Love You just seem so irritating I don't think I could take them, that's why I'm hoping Brave New World gets picked up, seems to me it could be an awesome show.

  20. Entered when this came out. Thought I would mention that before this was first posted, a few of the pilots that are on the list were already confirmed. Going by what was posted on here : )

  21. For comedies, I'm of the opposite opinion -

I think the Chelsea comedy will get picked up but I can't stand Chelsea Handler. The "Experiment" show is original and the concept seems entertaining. And now that it has Paget Brewster on board it's got an even better shot at a pick-up.

Regarding I Hate That I Love You, this show seems like the sort of bad decision NBC is known for which is why I think it's got a great chance. :)

I can't see Brave New World getting a pick up. We differ a lot on this one. To me, it seems like a narrow comedy with a niche appeal and a weak cast (so far). NBC also has a stockpile of workplace comedies.

  22. the only bummer was how long after clicking submit it took me to realize I hadn't written down my choices and I'll have no clue how I did (other than not winning) when the schedule is announced.

  23. Lol, this was difficult! I barely even understand how many shows are likely to get picked up by each network. I just picked the shows that I hope make it. I think that real difficulty is choosing sitcoms. Dramas have their casts and the strength of their concepts and writers. Sitcoms can often be hit and miss.
