After one of the greatest cliffhangers on TV ever in its Christmas special, the phenomenon that is E4’s Misfits became one of the most talked about show ever on the SFX forum. Everybody wants to know, what happens next. In an all-new interview in the new SFX special, Best Of British (in shops today), creator/writer Howard Overman reveals some tantalising titbits about series three. Here’s a little taster:
Overman does tell us it’s likely he won’t be writing all of series three’s eight episodes; no surprise considering he’s quickly becoming one of British sci-fi’s most in-demand writers with a regular gig on Merlin and the return of the Douglas Adams adaptation Dirk Gently (yes, it’ll be coming back!).
First on the agenda: that jaw-dropping series finale. “The aim was to make people feel ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to know what happens next!’ American shows like Lost are prepared to end their series’ on huge, game-changing cliffhangers, which make the audience desperate for the new series. Too often on British TV we tie things up in a neat package, because quite often you don’t know whether you’re getting another series before you finish filming, but we were lucky that Channel Four had already commissioned the third series while I was writing the second.
“They’re all going to have brand new powers. Nobody will have the same powers as in the second series,” Overman reveals.
“It’s quite daunting because they’ve had their powers for two series, and you’ve got to come up with a whole new set of powers, and we’re very much constrained with the type of powers we can do because you have to think about what works in terms of the character and story, as well as what’s achievable on our budget. We set up the idea that the powers are always linked to personality, so even now the characters’ choices are influenced and reflect the characters’ personalities, or else it just
feels a bit arbitrary.”
And the jumpsuits will be back, despite the heroes’ apparently having finished their community service last series: “That’s the look of the show. They’re on community service and their jumpsuits are their de facto superhero costumes, so I will be finding a way to get them back in the jumpsuits fairly quickly.
“There’s one slightly bigger storyline towards the end of series three. I think there are two big stories in all because we’ve got eight episodes this year. One is a sort of mid-season break. It won’t become like other shows where they’re saving the world, although in one episode they kind of do save the world.”

About time they started extending the length of the seasons, a show this popular needs more then 6 episodes a year (not including the christmas special)
ReplyDeleteI wish we got this show in America!!!
ReplyDeleteim addicted is season three for sure or what
ReplyDeleteno they'd censore the shit out of it, then it would be shitty kinda like the US version of skins.
ReplyDeletei agree that the us version of skins sucks, but this show is in America and its not censored.........
ReplyDeleteI heard that the actor that plays Nathan wont be back for the third season. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteI am really impressed with the series. It's a real story with believable characters that the world has labeled as loosers. It's real and you can feel the characters grow and you grow with them.
ReplyDeleteMisfits does air in the States and in Canada . It just airs late in the year . Starting begin of July SHowcase started airing the second season. I dont know where or when it will air in the States but it wouldnt make sense if it didnt.
ReplyDeleteYup it is true sadly but the show must go on and he wasnt the only good thing about the show. They will be giving a new character to replace him.
ReplyDeleteThey have it in America. Check Hulu.
ReplyDeleteRobert Sheehan is mean like that :(
ReplyDeleteits on hulu
ReplyDeleteI wish the British Version was in America. They're making a America version. It's gonna be complete crap. They already fucked up Being Human and Skins.
ReplyDeletebittorrent works like a charm kiddo\
ReplyDeleteI'm from america and I believe replacing robert is a bad idea!
ReplyDeleteOn what network? because I have yet to see this show outside of youtube, or the bbc iplayer. So again, exactly what network is this show playing on-and don't say BBC America because that would be a lie.
ReplyDeletein exactly what state? because I'm in California and this show does not air in California.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I said. I completely agree. I don't like the US version of Being Human or Skins, and they are going to fuck up Misfits if it's remade for an American audience. The show should just be sold to American audiences "As Is" and it will do just fine.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I believe he may have had projects that he had agreed to, or wanted to do, and the producers of Misfits may not have wanted to accommodate his shooting schedule, and that may have led to him withdrawing from the show. I really do believe that may have been the issue, because the producers sound passive-progressive when reporters ask about Sheehan;s abrupt departure from the show. Doesn't sound quite odd to you that he would quite the show six months prior to shooting, while still under contract? I think his decision to leave would have come up sooner, right? I think his decision to leave boiled right down to the producers inability to compromise with the boy, and that bumping of heads is what ultimately led to him exacting the show. The producers comments have led me to think, that they thought Sheehan would buckle and return back to work. This is just my opinion, because that's how the situation looks.
ReplyDeleteyo can jus type tht shit in google nd find a website to see it..thts wut i did.... bootleg tht bitch...this is the 21st century dumb fuk
ReplyDeleteya thts tru..only reason i was first drawn to this show was becaus the accents...aha they sound like dipshits..lol
ReplyDeletethey did make something like that heros and they couldnt keep that on the air for more then three or four seasons and that cause after the first it kinda just sucked. to many powers and to much over powering with the powers. i like how misfits has put the powers cant always use the power and no like super powers
ReplyDeleteI am in America and came across this show on Hulu, I love it, I have been watching it online and I have never seen it air on the actual TV, so I am patiently waiting for season 3 to come out!!!
ReplyDeletebut will he be here for season 4? if there is one
ReplyDeletefastpass.com search misfits it show season 1 and 2
ReplyDeleteMisfits is one of my favorite European shows and the storyline actually makes "SENSE" and to the point within 40-45 minutes of the show. From now on, all of the shows that I'll be watching is from Europe and other countries besides the U.S. except for the News...of course.
ReplyDeleteI like Robert Sheehan's character in the show....I think changing my attitude like that on my birthday which is a day away from now.
She means 'the states' as in the united states of america.....americans never use that term
ReplyDeletewhen does season 3 start
ReplyDeletethere is no fuckin american verison takin the piss is not an american term nor are all the tits censored its on hulu.com rated TV-MA for free as of right now all episodes up too Season 2 Episode which is kinda behind but o well i just watched the rest on another site for free
ReplyDeleteYou can watch it on Hulu in the US, and bonus, no censoring. You just have to have an acct.
ReplyDeleteYou do on HULU hahahaha
ReplyDeleteWhy would you watch the US news? All they show is fluff pieces and propaganda; Try Canadian news of US(it's the most accurate) or pretty much any other country and piece together the stories, they don't water down the US news. They show what our government won't allow.
ReplyDeletei just download it or watch on hulu
ReplyDeleteyeah thats what i did becaus hulu doesnt have all the episodes yet so i downloaded season 2
ReplyDeleteIt actually depends on what US news you watch and or read. If you watch CNN or the dreaded FOX, then yes, you're wasting your time. If you watch Democracy NOW, then you're getting better idea of what's happening. Of course, most people here don't watch Democracy NOW so . . .
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I have to wait for the fall for a new episode. This is such a great series, I'm pretty sure Hollywood wouldn't do an American version. Even our specialized science fiction/fantasy network can't come up with stuff this good. No, better for the original or a premium channel to come up with this level of entertainment. Hell, there's even decent cinematography. Also, they let a good thing go when they let Robert Sheehan walk out the door. He was hysterical!
ReplyDeleteand it's not as though can kill off his character either. But it makes me mad because his personality would be so hard to copy with out doing a douchebag job. Hopefully the storyline will save the show, and im also excited that Alicia will be getting new powers,(i mean the ability to make people go fuck crazy to shag you, is one dumbass power) and future Simon's ability to not be affected by her old power foreshadows his new power in season three, i would guess anyway...<sounds a little confusing but I love the show and if you follow it you should understand. <3
ReplyDeletehi im in California lololee24 and i watch misfits and Being human on hulu. yet ive never seen being humen the brit version but i did like the US aired verstion. but ya hulu is great and its free.
ReplyDeleteor go to http://tv.blinkx.com/show/misfits/SoQxiG91Z_CQw0sa#s2e5 it has evrything
ReplyDeleteyou have to follow the story line yet i dose make sends going that future simon in his time thay already lost there powers so even know we was in the past it still didnt work on him. he had know power thats way he just free ran.
ReplyDeletePay attention! It is in America already and it is not a remake! they have the exact same freakin show on Hulu!
ReplyDeletebut thats on the internet, i can get thing from china on the internet if i really wanted to. id be nice if i could watch it at home as simply as i watch pretty little liars every week
ReplyDeletehulu is not considered american tv.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you totally,I love the show & you're right Robert Sheehan.I Think he really made the show,I hope they do bring him back
ReplyDelete*is holding his breath, hurry!*
ReplyDeleteFor the people who wish to watch this on "American TV." Does it really fkn matter if it's on the computer or on the TV? Seriously...
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't???? I'm pretty sure 85 -90% the reason we were all laughing was because of him.
ReplyDeletei know right... first off hulu can be watched just like netflix on your tv... but really with all the technology thats out who really watches tv in the US now... i dont. the only time my tv sees any action is when im streamin a movie or playing a video game. you can even stream news. lets face it heros in US was nothing like this show hands down n we shouldnt even dare to try a hand at it. true fans of misfits will be disgusted. why do we keep trying to copy bbc anyway? we want to be different so much but yet we keep trying to make our own version of what bbc does best. and lets face it we fail miserably :(
ReplyDeleteJust finished watching all of seasons 1&2. Great show! Hooked and can't wait for the next season! Thank you lord for Hulu!---Americana, Louisiana
ReplyDeletethe first 2 seasons are on hulu
ReplyDeleteAgreed 100% unless they put it on HBO, Showtime or Cinemax but I don't see that happening. If they did an American version it would be ruined, just like "Being Human". The UK version is untouchable and they killed it over here. They just need to give them more episodes... I don't mind having to find them on the internet!
ReplyDeleteIt's called hulu guy.
ReplyDeleteI would rather watch shows on the internet whenever I want, rather than having to wait for it to air a specific time every week!
ReplyDeleteI heard that Robert Sheehan (Nathan) isn't coming back for season 3 :(
ReplyDeleteIf you have HULU+ you can stream to TV.
ReplyDeletePLEASE TELL ME WHEN OR HOW i CAN WATCH SEASON THREE. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW
ReplyDeletewe keep trying to copy bbc tv because its better than what we have here in the states.....they might have been able to american version of being human work but they got a crappy cast to pay the roles...
ReplyDeletethey do and its not censored.. Its called Hulu. they have all 2 seasons so far and its not censored at all
ReplyDeleteI watched both seasons. I have absolutely no idea why I liked it as much as I did. Though whats up with 6 episodes a season? they should have between 20 and 25.
ReplyDeleteand yes there are ways to get hulu on your TV without Hulu + you just have to know how...
ReplyDeleteYou can watch it on hulu.com
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. And what sucks if You're in America you have to wait way longer for the seaon to get here
ReplyDeleteyeah i just finished season two, now i'm wondering when season 3 will be available on Hulu.
ReplyDeletemy guess is ,like season 1 and 2 it's starts in november my as well start season 3 in november
ReplyDeleteThe creator of one of those preppy white girls shows is planning on making an American remake of Misfits, I don't have much faith.
ReplyDeleteWE do its called HULU..... And BBC
ReplyDeleteHave see it on BBC.... But hulu is better because it is not censored
ReplyDeleteWhere is season three? I can not find it on Hulu.
ReplyDeleteits on hulu
ReplyDeleteThere was a show somewhat familiar to Mistits that was in the US. It was called Heroes. It was good at first but then the storyline started to suck big time. I hope that doesn't happen with Misfits since I'm hooked on that show. Also I agree. Don't make an American version. It would just ruin a master piece.
