  1. Yeah, the new character was pretty underwhelming, to say the least. I found it telling that the executive producers on Five-0 who were also the ones who wrote (or butchered) the latest Star Trek movie, couldn't even get rank of the Sisko cosplayer correct; 4 collar pips is the rank of a captain, not a commander. In fact, Sisko never wore that style of uniform as a commander, only a captain. Not that anyone should expect Orci and Kurtzman to ever get details correct. Also, it's hilarious how everyone who lives or visits Hawai'i got the memo and knows exactly what Five-0 is whenever McGarrett yells it at someone.

  2. I get she was in a couple of popular teen shows but I never saw Larisa Oleynik as Alex Mack or the Bianca chick so I can only evaluate her as this character.

I think they are trying to make her the new nerd girl a la the chick on NCIS: LA. They both got annoying awkward intros. I'll wait and see if they improve the character over her next two episodes. That thing with the gum, though, made me turn the channel for a while. That was incredibly disgusting. I've been in bars and restaurants where my legs have come in contact with the underside of whatever and come away with gum residue on my trousers. Gross. Nothing cute at all about that.

I don't see a good reason for her character beyond this three-episode arc. The team already has a rookie (Kono) that needs additional training. I'd rather see DDK and Grace get more screen time instead of introducing another character. Or maybe a Hawaii actor instead of importing a mainlander. And of course if she joins the team she can't be Steve's love interest - the whole boss/employee rubric kicks in.
