Fringe showrunner Jeff Pinkner has dropped hints about the upcoming third season finale.
He told the New York Post that events will "unfurl in a very unexpected way for the characters and the audience".
"With as much humility as I can muster, I will tell you that I feel like this season start in a really strong place and it continues to delight us," he said. "Some of the stories coming up are really fun and exciting."
He added that viewers will "absolutely" see the Doomsday Machine that is linked to Peter (Joshua Jackson) be activated before the season's end.
"To me, surprise is a good means of storytelling, but sometimes giving the audience what they expect in an unexpected way is more satisfying," he explained. "As an audience member, I love guessing ahead on stories I care about. That's how our minds indicate they're really engaged."
Pinkner also confirmed that the Fringe production team are still planning ahead for future seasons, despite concerns about the show's ratings.
"We have six to eight seasons worth of material," he confirmed. "We see it as having certain chapters that would enrich the overall story, but aren't necessary to tell the overall story. God willing, the network allows us the time to tell our complete story."

i really hope they give you time to complete your story.. cause im enjoying it and i think alot of others are as well :) please season 4! They deserve it...
ReplyDeleteFor now I'd appreciate a Season 4 renewal...but I would absolutely love 6-8 seasons of this awesome show!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Let's see.... 6-8 seasons of the most original, best-written, most detailed show on TV? As Mr. Sheen would say... "WINNING!"
ReplyDeleteI hope "unexpected" doesn't mean killing off any of the main cast.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the optimism, but it would be sort of terrible leaving a show on a cliffhanger and having it canceled, particularly when this all seems to be pulling for someone's (albeit temporary) demise. And this gravitation seems to be for Peter. So for that to happen, not having a season 4, and potentially leaving Walter and Olivia alone to wallow sucks. But I could be wrong - Fringe is good at twisting preconceptions and changing what you would expect. And since we're expecting fireballs out of someone's eyes and the potential destruction of universes, "unexpected" sounds both acceptable and oddly disconcerting.
ReplyDeleteI have learned not to expect anything from FRINGE... I mean for them to expect us to think a certain way.... then to say an unexpected twist is coming...
ReplyDeleteWell, it assumes that they know what I am thinking and that I know what they are thinking. When it comes to FRINGE... I don't know what I am thinking myself most the time.... how can they? I certainly don't know what they are thinking. What was I thinking trying to say this without sleep. I think i just unexpectedly confused myself.....
that...actually made perfect sense. I was kinda thinking the same thing too!
ReplyDeleteGood! Can you explain it to me? Ha! No I know what I meant, but was not sure it would translate to others that do not speak insomnia-ese....
ReplyDeleteHe told the New York Post that events will "unfurl in a very unexpected way for the characters and the audience".
ReplyDeleteBoth universes will be destroyed and the Fringe will continue in a yet unseen third. :)
Please SpoilerTV, you guys are too good to be posting rehashed, spliced and diced articles from crappy DigitalSpy. They always take an article thats already out there, mash it up and stick a title on it to draw in readers. This article is just a mash-up of another one. No more DigitalSpy. Please.
ReplyDeleteI would like to say I don't think they would but SPOILER ALERT:
ReplyDeleteTHese are the same producers/ and writers that wrote the series that killed off charlie and other characters we thought were lead.
God willing, the ratings will pick up and no more concern about the show's future.
ReplyDeleteyeah, but they spent half of season 3 making it clear charlie was going to die, and even dedicated an episode to him before his demise. Ecko was a shocking lead death, but that was the actor's choice, not the writers. none of these died during a finale either. i can't think of others who died who were very big characters until the final season. (haha, to me, anna lucia, libby and michael never counted as cast members i'd miss.) also, fringe just doesn't have the amount of cast members that lost did. i think "unexpected" more likely means EVIL EVIL CLIFFHANGERS, considering the last two fringe finales.
ReplyDeleteThat's sort've what I was expecting with that statement too lol
ReplyDeleteKeep spreading the word. This Friday is important to watch. Tweet it, facebook it, post on all sites, if you will: shout it from the roof tops. Fringe rules and it needs to stay.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the only main character who's been killed off in the show so far is our Charlie (and Broyles but it was alt Broyles so technically it doesnt count as a main character death), perhaps alt Charlie will be killed off as well, and it'll become a running gag in the multiverse; "Oh my God, you killed Charlie! You bastard!"
ReplyDeleteI think Totallyaddicted005 was talking about Fringe's Charlie, not LOST's.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I started reading and almost straight away it was like "wait a minute, this is just quoting an article I already read last week". Completely scoopless.
ReplyDeleteI have been joking about a Purple universe since FRINGE started with the Red side.... then as the plots unfurled I considered it a real possibility. Now that I almost expect it, I think they would not give me what I expected, so it must be something other than the teo Red and Blue universes combining to make one Purple universe.... right?
ReplyDeleteIf every fringe fan would just get one more person to watch then we would double the amount of viewers(: hello season 4!
ReplyDeleteOh yes they do :D I hope there's gonna be at least a fourth season, but I would love so much to have 8 seasons ... wait and see ;)
ReplyDeletehaha oops you're probably right, but my point still stands. the only lead character fringe has killed off is charlie, unless you count alt-broyles, neither of which took place in finales. i still can't imagine them killing any other lead characters off because there are so few, though i could perhaps see them killing more alt-characters. i just don't think "unexpected" necessarily means they're killing people off.
ReplyDeletethat would be hilarious!
ReplyDeleteIf Prison Break got four seasons there is no reason FOX shouldn't allow Fringe the same... at least. I honestly hope for five or six seasons.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that Fringe's ratings are a lot lower than Prison Break
ReplyDeletePrison Break
S1 - 9.2
S2 - 9.3
S3 - 8.2
S4 - 6.1
Fringe
S1 - 9.9
S2 - 7.3
S3 to date 4.7
From Fox's point of view it's all about money. If they can make more
money with another show, then they will go with another show. People
who are in charge of Fox don't care about the fans or the shows, they
simply care about money for them and their shareholders.
Having said that I really hope we get a S4 of Fringe
