Shockingly there only seem to be about a dozen Canadian scripted hour-long dramas right now which are not mini-series. Those are time travel therapy drama Being Erica which was recently renewed for a fourth and final season for 2011-2012, serial killer drama Durham County (not yet renewed for 2011-2012), police drama Flashpoint (Already renewed for 2011-2012), horse drama Heartland (Already renewed for 2011-2012),private investigator drama Republic of Doyle (Already renewed for 2011-2012) summer hit Rookie Blue (already renewed), period police drama Murdoch Mysteries (new season premieres March 16, 2011), psychic drama The Listener (not yet renewed for next season), co-productions with Syfy Haven and Sanctuary which are already renewed, Since September there have only been three new hour-long dramas (excluding miniseries): Lost Girl, Shattered and Blackstone of which only Lost Girl was successful and is already renewed for a second season the other two while not officially cancelled are not expected to return.
Upcoming premieres this Spring seem to only include Showcase's Endgame (March 16) and XIII (April) With Amy Price-Francis's King originally announced for Spring but still pending a premiere date.

So happy Haven is returning!!!
ReplyDeleteCanada does seem to be buying other countries' shows more and more every year despite efforts to the contrary. You people seem to be squeezing out your own original content slowly but surely.
ReplyDeleteOn a brighter note, the rise in popularity of US/Canadian co-productions could be a real shot in the arm for the industry. The success of shows like Haven and Rookie Blue could be a good omen.
Personally though, as long as nothing bad happens to Lost Girl I'll be fine. :)
i hope they'll renew the listener!
ReplyDeleteWell I hope Canada does not stop producing hour-long dramas! I LOVE Durham County, and enjoy Lost Girl and The Listener. I have enjoyed more than a few other Canadian series like The Bridge, Blood Ties, DaVinci's Inquest etc.
ReplyDeleteWhile there is a Canada related post up, I used to watch Flashpoint and my mom still does I know. Did anyone else notice ti was always tinted green? I never had an issue with any series other than that one, and this was AIRED episodes on NBC, not *ahem* downloaded...... I always wondered why they had a green look to them.
ReplyDeleteLost Girl season 2 is still several months off, it has already gotten the green light for season 3? Or is that a typo?
ReplyDeleteoops typo :) but i'd say season 3 is a sure thing too considering showcase are still rerunning it like 6 times a week while a current new series of theirs blackstone only airs once a week
ReplyDelete^^; I'm confessing the only 2 Canada shows I'm watching are Heartland and Sanctuary.....and I barely watch Sanctuary. The only great canadian show is Heartland...and I live in Canada. If they would do a little effort to have good shows it could help
ReplyDeleteRepublic of Doyle is one of my favorite shows and I'm really glad that it was renewed for a third season, and I also really like The Listener and hope that it is renewed for a third season as well.
ReplyDeletei love The Listener
ReplyDeleteNot if I can help it ;) Rookie blue all the way :)
