UK TV - Ratings

15 Feb 2011

This is my first post, so bare with me...
Every now and again I will post the UK TV ratings just out of interest and to see how our favourite shows are doing

Numbers are averages
Measured by BARB (Broadcast Audience Research Board) from 5,100 homes

SUNDAYS
HAWAII FIVE-0 - 9PM - SKY1
6th Feb: There was a double-bill Sunday to kick off the show. The premiere of H50 was watched by an average 717,000 viewers with a share of 2.7% in the 9pm slot. In the 10pm slot it lost viewers to 592,000 with a 3.1% share.
13th Feb: Episode 3 - 556,000 viewers, 2.1% share

NCIS: LOS ANGELES - 10PM - SKY1
No data

MONDAYS
GLEE - E4 - 9PM
7th Feb: Glee landed 1.38 million viewers with a share of 5.5% with a further 239,000 (1.3%) watching an hour later on E4+1

TUESDAYS

BLUE BLOODS - SKY ATLANTIC - 10pm
1st Feb: The shows premiere drew in just 225,000 viewers.

WEDNESDAYS
NCIS S7 - FIVE - 9PM
9th Feb: Five is one of the main channels which are available to everyone who owns a TV. So, this time slot for NCIS can be classed as a ‘NEW’ episode for many people. Only the lucky people with Sky get to see S8 on Friday’s... This week NCIS had 2.4 million viewers with a 10.1% share

BOARDWALK EMPIRE - SKY ATLANTIC - 10.30pm
1st Feb: At 9pm , the premiere drew in 438,000 viewers.
I’m a little confused as to how Sky has been airing Boardwalk. From what I understand it has been losing viewers since it started.
12th Feb: 229,000 viewers/1% share

FRIDAYS
NCIS S8 - FX - 9PM
Returning 25th Feb

PLEASE BARE IN MIND THAT SKY ATLANTIC IS CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE TO THE 10 MILLION HOUSEHOLDS WITH SKY SUBSCRIBTIONS

  1. Congrats on your first post.

Looking forward to tracking the UK ratings and seeing which shows continue to drop and/or improve.

  2. Thank you :)...

I wish that we had detailed ratings like the US ratings.
For some shows they post ratings one week and then nothing the next, like Blue Bloods

  3. Awesome post! I follow a number of UK shows and it will be nice to follow ratings ....

  4. If anyone wants me to post ratings for other shows just let me know here and I can try to find them :) I can't get many US show ratings other than the ones above.

  5. They do provide detailed information but often the source pages don't bother to report them as american imports like these achieve very low ratings and are unlikely to affect their renewal or cancellation

If you want some slightly more detailed informatio you can contact attentional who provide the overnight ratings, although I think they do charge:
    http://www.attentional.com/

    Another site to check is:
    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/completecoverage/ratings/

Final ratings (+7) are available for free:
    http://www.barb.co.uk/

Although they only provide the top 30 for the week for the 5 main channels and the top 10 for all the others without further enquiry.

  6. One further site I forget to suggest is:

  8. Thank you so much :)... I've briefly looked at barb but I think you have to pay for that too

    ReplyDelete
  9. You have to pay if you want to request information. But the main section should be free (at least in the UK). I eagerly await every week for them to release the finals

  10. Sure if you think of anything just say. I don't really know much outside the UK though

  11. Thanks for the links! Not as nicely laid out as Dark's charts, but I can find UK original series ratings there and get an idea if a show I watch will be cancelled. Or maybe even see how ratings are before I download UK series...not end up wasting my time like I did on The Deep last year...

  12. That's fine. We've got the USA part covered.

Lucy has just started her first article here with the UK Ratings, so
if you have any ideas about what to post etc in relation to the UK
please let either me or Lucy know and we'll see if we can work it into
    the articles.

  13. Good to have you hear as well. We're trying to improve our ratings
coverage here as well so any help you can provide is greatly
    appreciated.

  14. Yep, I've no idea where else they get posted.

  15. Thanks hammard, that's useful to know. Appreciate it.

  16. In case you are interested the best (and by that I mean easiest as they regularly achieve high enough ratings) shows to follow their ratings are probably:
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation- Five- Tuesday 9pm
    CSI: Miami- Five- Tuesday 9pm
    The Mentalist- Five- Friday 9pm
    CSI: NY- Five- Saturday 10pm
Desperate Housewives- Channel 4- Sunday 10pm
    NCIS- Five- Wednesday 9pm
Law and Order Criminal Intent- Five- Wednesday 10pm
Law and Order SVU- Five-- Wednesday 11pm
    Glee- E4- Monday 9pm
    Family Guy- BBC3- Sunday 10pm, 10:20pm
    American Idol- ITV2- Friday 9pm
    Vampire Diaries- ITV2- Tuesday 9pm
The Big Bang Theory- e4- Thursday 9pm
The Middle- Sky 1- Friday 7:30pm
    American Dad- BBC3- Sunday 10:45pm, 11:10pm
    Bones- Sky Living- Wednesday 9pm
Grey's Anatomy- Sky Living- Wednesday 10pm
    The Simpsons- Sky1- Friday 8pm
    Modern Family- Sky1- Friday 8:30pm
    Raising Hope- Sky1- Friday 9pm
    Fringe- Sky1- Tuesday 10pm
    Nikita- Sky Living- Thursday 9pm
America's Next Top Model- Sky Living- Monday 9pm
Plus you can easily see the ratings for new shows on the smaller networks e,g, Syfy, FX, Bravo, Sky Atlantic

The main issue is to check that it is a new episode airing and not simply a repeat, as this is often not specified in the ratings data.

Here is the best place to see it is:
    http://www.barb.co.uk/report/weeklyTopProgrammes?
(although the data is usually 2 weeks old to allow for processing +7)

  18. Eh, these woud be more if the UK wasn't being by like 6 months. By the time we've got them, we've already watched them and these no point waching them again on TV

    ReplyDelete
  19. They are really good but they don't have many channels like Sky Atlantic which I'm interested in... It's a pain really, there is ratings for the premiere of Blue Bloods and Boardwalk Empire but that's it
