Welcome to this weeks final Question of the Day. Today's Question comes from cassopeia who asks
"What was your favorite TV show growing up?"
Now I love these sorts of questions as they allow me to go get all nostalgic.
There are so many shows that I remember so well whilst growing up and probably a few I've forgotten. I'll list some of my favorites below.
Blake 7 - Epic Sci-Fi with a lot of corn and cheese. Still Awesome. (WIKI)
The Tomorrow People - People with special abilities, powers such as telepathy, telekinesis, and teleportation (WIKI)
Doctor Who - The Original Version
Cheers - Still funny today.
The A-Team - Simply great fun/action
Knight Rider - More campy fun with The HOFF
Spitting Image - Ahead of it's time Adult Puppet Comedy
But out of all the shows, my favourite and the one I had to watch each week (remember there were no DVD's, no +1 channels and very few repeats) was Space 1999. (WIKI)
From Wiki
"Space: 1999 is a British science-fiction television series that originally aired from 1975 to 1977. In the opening episode, nuclear waste from Earth stored on the Moon's far side explodes in a catastrophic accident on 13 September 1999, knocking the Moon out of orbit and sending it and the 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha hurtling uncontrollably into space. The series was the last production by the partnership of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson."
So what about you? What shows do you remember loving when you were growing up and which was your absolute favourite?
Sound off in the comments and have a great weekend. I'll see you all again on Monday for another week of QOD's and remember to use the form below to send in your questions. Who knows, we may use your's on Monday.
You can see previous Questions of the Day here.

Home Improvement, Touched by an Angel, and Growing Pains.
ReplyDeleteOh! That's a tough one! My favourite kids shows? My favourite shows from primetime?
ReplyDeleteKids Shows: Beast Wars, Dragonball, Digimon, Reboot, Power Rangers
Primetime: Earth Final Conflict, Family Matters, Star Trek Voyager, Sliders
While I would love to include Star Trek TNG, when I was 2, I saw an episode in which Data's head fell off. This effectively scarred me for life/until I was 6. I couldn't watch an episode again until after I had seen Voyager/fewer heads rolling.
I'm sure there are hundreds of others I forgot to mention, but these shows stand out.
Growing Pains, Who's The Boss? (They were in syndication by the time I started watching them, but still), Fraggle Rock, Dinosaurs, Gullah Gullah Island, and ton of other Disney and Nick shows.
ReplyDeletePokemon, Family Matters, Love and Marriage, Power Rangers and more I can't recall
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot about Family Matters!
ReplyDeleteFavorite tv show while I was growing up? I have to admit a fondness for 80s action shows - loved The A-Team and Magnum PI . Long before there was shipping I wanted Scarecrow and Mrs. King to make it work between the spy and the single mom. I see all these kids shows and WOW I feel I missed out... I didn't watch many of them :(
ReplyDeleteThe only cartoon I ever watched regularly and woke up for was some old Voltron predecessor "Battle of the Planets" ... or maybe it was "G-Force" or both?
I liked Night Court a lot, I watched Who's the Boss and Growing Pains some too, but mostly with family. I loved Boy Meets World (what the hell is Will Friedel up to anyway?) and of course Saved By the Bell.
My favorite was SMURFS hands down , and then shows like : Pokemon, Flinstones, Tom&Jerry, Gummi bears, and Nu,pogodi from Russia.

There are a million others, but that's the gist of it...
ReplyDeleteOh.. thought of one other cartoon I watched growing up.. Dungeons and Dragons. Dungeon Master gave one of my all-time favorite lines... "One's legs are long enough if they reach the ground"
ReplyDeleteBoy Meets World, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Lizzie McGuire and Stargate SG-1.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was real young it was The Wonder Years and Full House, when I was a little older I grew up and came of age with the gang of That 70's Show.

ReplyDeleteBlossom first and foremost, then Home Improvement, The Cosby Show and cartoons like Darkwing Duck, TALESPIN (so wish they'd bring this one back!!) and some others I forget. I also really loved Quantam Leap. Remember watching that and MacGyver with the whole family. Oh and who can forget reruns of the greats like Gilligans Island and Happy Days!
ReplyDeleteI may get beaten up for this, but Masterpiece Theater, Law & Order, Homicide: Life on the Street and The Equalizer.
ReplyDeleteThis may be why I did not have a normal childhood.
I have no idea how this started, but I saw one episode of Quantum Leap in my childhood and had nightmares about it for years. I've never watched it again.
ReplyDeletefull house, golden girls, i love lucy, boy meets world
ReplyDeleteWinnie the Pooh, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Dooby Doo, Totally Spies, Kim Possible, Power Rangers, Lilo and Stitch, Powerpuff Girls, Mickey Mouse and loads more. I really was a cartoon junkie :P
ReplyDeleteWow! I wonder what episode it was that caused such a terrible reaction. There was one episode about a purportedly haunted mansion. I guess it wasn't really much of a kid's show lol...
ReplyDeleteYou and I have the same first name, so we're both from the generation when "Linda" was every other girl in the class. I loved those you mention and also Leave it to Beaver, American Bandstand (hosted by the dashing young Dick Clark), and Mickey Mouse Club. I could be a tad older, judging by those last two.
ReplyDeleteI watched Rugrats too. Now I watch it with my daughter, it still as good as ever. Some of the humor went over my head when I was younger, but now I get it and it's pretty clever sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThe X-Men show of the 90's was so awesome! I actually like it way more than the newer movies.
ReplyDeleteHell yeah! I loved Earth 2! I am so glad to see anyone even mention it. I hate the way it ended, it could have been so much more. If I could bring back any show, it would be Earth 2. Even over Firefly and Lost. (Wow...did I just say over Lost?)...
