Hey,

The oscars aired yesterday and the winners have been announced and I have trawled through the hundreds of predictions that you all had to find the winners for the competition and a DVD voucher to go with it.
I can announce that we had a tie with 20 correct scores each out of 24, and so I will right now draw one out of a hat (cup) for the win.
The Winner is... 'Josh Armstrong', we will send an email to you with details of collection your prize. Commiserations to 'Weird Achives' who also got an equal 20 correct answers.

For people who are interested, the top two got these results wrong:
Josh Armstrong:
Best Director
Best Animated Short
Best Art Direction
Best Cinematography

Weird Archives:
Best Documentary Short
Best Original Score
Best Original Song
Best Cinematography

There we have it. Thanks for taking part, hope you enjoyed the Oscars...

Adam

  1. Cool :)

Just entered myself lol although I can't win my own prize ;)

You're right about some of the small categories, very hard to predict.

  2. Don't forget to comment here on what you think are definitely going to win, as well as potential shocks & surprises :)

  3. haha. I entered too to check it was working :P

  4. Colin Firth for Best Actor in my book is a sure thing as is Natalie Portman for Best Actress.

The Best Supporting roles I'm divided on-

Best Supporting Actor I think either Bale or Rush
Best Supporting Actress Bonham Carter or Leo

I'm 50/50 on Best Picture-King's Speech and The Social Network-could go either way. Had either one of them won the Golden Globe AND the BAFTA I'd have gone with that, but they won one each so now I'm not so sure.

Best Director-I think it'll go to David Fincher for The Social Network

  5. If asked a month or two ago I would have answered more easily and assuredly, but things have changed with all the Guild Award Shows....

Best Picture : The King's Speech
    Best Director : David Fincher
    Best Actor : Colin Firfth
    Best Actress : Natalie Portman
Bes Supporting Actor : Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress : Melissa Leo
Best Original Screenplay : The King's Speech
Best Adapted Screenplay : The Social Network
Best Animated Feature : The Illusionist
Best Foreign Language film : Biutiful
Best Documentary : Exit Through th Gift Shop
Best Documentary Short : Poster Girl
Best Live Action Short : Na WeWe
Best Animated short : The Lost Thing
Best Original Score : The Social Network
Best Original Song :If I Rise (127 Hours)
    Best Sound Editing : Inception
    Best Sound Mixing : Inception
Best Art Direction : True Grit
    Best Cinematography : Black Swan
Best Make Up : The Way Back
Best Costume Design : Alice in Wonderland
Best film Editing : Black Swan
    Best Visual Effects : Inception

Wow tough choices... I have seen each nominated movie in each of the major categories this year, but feel as though it offered me little insight! lol.

A month ago I would have said The Social Network would win Best Picture and Director, but now with the wins at the guild award shows.... I think The King's Speech will pull off AT LEAST 3 of the Major categories. Firth is a lock, as is Portman, I lean towards Bale as BSA (but Hawkes was AWESOME in Winter's Bone and Ruffalo has buzz), Melissa Leo is my favorite to win BSA, but I have a gut feeling Jacki Weaver will win for Animal Kingdom. I think Biutiful is almost as big a lock to win best foreign as Firth and Portman in their categories.

I have only seen Exit Through the Gift Shop in the documentary categories , but I chose Poster Girl (because I like posters on SpoilerTV of course -ha!) and I chose The Lost Thing (it has LOST in the title.. c'mon!). I have only seen The Illusionist in all the animated categories, but it was AWESOME and deserves an award.

I think Inception will collect a ton of "technical" awards, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects and possibly Best Cinematography and Best Art direction even. I gave the nods to Black Swan and True Grit respectively because I felt those two films really shined (shone?) in those categories.Make UP and Costume this year are guesses, but I felt that Alice had the most over-the-top costumes... so I chose it.

On a parting note, for any that have not seen it yet, I recommend Winter's bone. If you happened to watch the season premiere of Justified and enjoyed it, it will be right up your alley... maybe. It's about a teen girl (Jennifer Lawrence in her first big role) with ado-nothing mom and a naer-do-well dad that is missing or worse. The setting is backwoods Appalachian country and they all all related by blood or marriage, and most deal Meth or cook it. Our heroine Ree finds out her dad put a lien on the house and her family will lose it if he doesn't show up for court or pay his debts... and he is missing. This would put her mom and younger brother out in the woods. SO she sets out to find her dad, or find out what happened to him. This NOT a light, happy film... very dark and shows the darker side of human nature, but also shows just how strong even a teen can be in a moment of need... and help can come from unexpected places. Awesome acting by Hawkes, Lawrence and the rest of the supporting cast headlined by Raising Hope's Garret Dillahunt. Not necessarily a movie you will watch over and over and quote from, but one of the year's best movies artistically speaking.

  6. How many of us have seen the "shorts" nominated or most (if not all of) the documentaries? I bet many of us voted for The LOST Thing though ... :P

  7. I think Best Supporting Actress may be the hardest category this year. It is PACKED!I think there are FOUR legitimate contenders and Haillee Steinfeld is getting so much buzz from this. Even more than for being Jake "Body by Jake" Steinfeld's niece! LOL

  8. The Social Network -- Best Director (David Fincher), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross), Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin).

The King's Speech -- Best Picture, Best Actor (Colin Firth).

Black Swan -- Best Actress (Natalie Portman).

The Fighter -- Best Supporting Actress (Melissa Leo), Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale), Best Original Screenplay.

Inception -- Best Sound Editing, Best Art Direction.

I'm betting on the Social Network taking home the most awards but not best picture at this point.

  9. My Shock and Awe List:

    Best Picture: Winter's Bone,
Best Director: Cohen Brothers (can they be a shock.. .hmmm) ,
    Best Actor: James Franco.
    Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence,
    Best Supporting Actor: Jeremy Renner,
    Best Supporting Actress: Hailee SteinFeld,

FYI you need to put "the Fight" after David O. Russel's name....

  10. I would have bet the house on The Social netowrk doing the same last year, but now..... not so sure. It may actually be Inception with the most wins if the big 4 beat up on each other and divide all the categories up.....but IF I had to bet I would lay money on The King's Speech to get the most now. All the momentum it has after the guild award shows and BAFTAs... an it is more nominations than everyone else...

  11. Adam.. you need to put "the Fighter" after David O Russel's name in the Best Director category.... Well, you don't "need" to, but it is missing....

  12. Psh, and I used to respect your opinion :P. I've seen Toy Story 3 thrice and it's made me cry all three times! Not that the other two aren't excellent animated movies. It's just that TS3 is probably the best animated movie EVAR!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well you will notice TECHNICALLY I wrote that 1) I had not seen any other animated other than The Illusionist and 2) it is deserving of "AN" award (not necessarily this award).... Nothing about TS3 NOT deserving to win... hahaha

  14. Lol, true. You should check it out! Especially if you liked the first two, it was the perfect epilogue for a wonderful franchise. It probably hit me harder as well since I watched the first one as a 5 year old, the second as a 7 year old, and the third one at the age of 21, which pretty much follows Andy's progression in age. It's like the movie was made for my friends and I lol.

  15. So many good ones this year; hard to predict. GL to all nominees and players in the game!
Awe: Winter's Bone Shock: Black Swan

  16. Looking at a summary of the current results, there's 2% between the top two picks so far. It appears no one really has a clue, haha

  17. The BAFTAS are a little British biased though.

Don't tell anyone I said that though :P

    ReplyDelete
  18. hahaha. Third! Hope you did different answers in each, spreading the risk :P

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ha! Yeah they tend to lean British.... but The King's Speech swept the guild awards. That said, momentum only means so much and can change fast.......

    ReplyDelete
  20. I did change from The Social Network winning Best picture and Fincher as best director in the first, to King's Speech and Fincher in this one, to King's Speech and Hooper in a different one. So I did spread the risk around....... Oh joy!
