The Mentalist - Morena Baccarin to Guest Star

23 Feb 2011

Morena Baccarin will take a break from plotting the downfall of humanity on ABC’s V to take a guest-starring role on an upcoming episode of CBS’ The Mentalist, EW has learned exclusively. Baccarin will play Erica Flynn, described as an “attractive and sexy woman who seems as warm-hearted, sincere, and intelligent as she is lovely.” Baccarin’s character runs a matchmaking business, and may have some dark secrets. Expect attractive-person sparks to fly between Erica and Simon Baker’s Patrick Jane when the episode airs in early April.

  1. So, seems like the producers are really playing with Jane/Lisbon shippers, aren't they? Maybe both of them will lose. Jane is pulling away from everyone else and suddenly, like magic, they bring another woman and 'sparks fly'. Bravo, very in character! /sarcasm

I like Morena Baccarin, but 'sparks fly' again, srsly? And now? No, thanks. Sorry, but they give me another "Kristina Frye" and I'll give them a "goodbye, show".

  2. Well no offense, but neither of the actors have much interest in that ship, and over the course of the show those two characters have only shown a slight attraction to one another in that sense. There have been no spoilers even hinting at it on the horizon.

IF, and that is a really big IF, something happens between them, it's a long ways off. Saying "goodbye, show" for such a silly reason is your choice, but it's completely illogical.

  3. No offense, but actors are payed to act, and fans watch what they like to watch. That was MY opinion = MY problem. If YOU think it's silly = YOUR problem, not mine.

  4. No need to take it so badly, I did say it was your choice. Oh, and don't discount the kind of pull that actors can have on the writers. Believe it or not, fans wanting a ship to happen rarely influences whether it will occur or not. It doesn't hurt, but it doesn't make much difference either.

So who do you think the writers will listen to, if they do so at all? Fans who change their opinions almost with every other episode, or the actors who are portraying their characters? I think the choice is obvious.

Taking into account what I said above, about there being little progress relationship-wise between those two since the show started, it becomes pretty clear that the writers don't consider it an option any time soon.

The fact that you're saying you might quit the show if Jane gets with someone else, without any hint of a Jane/Lisbon hookup on the horizon in the first place, tells me you're being illogical. THAT is not an opinion, it's a fact.

I could understand it if there was something forming between them, but at this time there isn't. They are going to have their relationships, it's pretty much set in stone, long before they ever get together. You might as well stop watching now and save me the annoyance of hearing any further complaining.

Otherwise, watch the show, do try and enjoy it, and please only become upset when you actually have something tangible to be upset about.

  5. You call my opinion illogical and silly, and there's no need to take it so badly? How come? Are you any better than me?

Take a dictionary and search for "opinion", it might be useful for you. Anyone has the right to disagree with me, but don't tell me what to think. If I want to stop watching it, I will, believe me. If *I* want to, not because you think I should.

That's your take on the show and about Jane/Lisbon relationship, good for you. Some people will say you're right, other people will say you're wrong. But do you mind if I call it silly? Because, you know, I may not agree with you. And of course, suddenly I could think that I'm the smartest person in the world and that I'm absolutely right in everything. That makes you illogical. Am I right?

I tell you what my friend, if you want, go ahead, enjoy it! Do I have to enjoy it too? No, I don't.

I'm not a kid, I'm pretty aware that my opinion won't change anything, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't have one.

  8. I think, that eventually Jane and Lisbon will eventually get together. Jane will never fully be ready to commit to a relationship until Red John is dead/defeated. And if Lisbon is there to help him along the way and to the end, (100% sure she will) it will become even more likely. People say that neither Tunney or Baker are interested in a romance between their characters, but I've read a little different. Simon Baker said that he doesn't think that Jane and Lisbon should get together anytime soon, and if it was to happen, it would be at the end. I, personally, love the chemistry between the two, but it is a long way away from being truly 'there', like Booth and Brennan or Castle and Beckett for example. Some of the producers/writers have even said that there is definitely an attraction. I am going to be patient and hope that it happens in the future because I ship them with all my heart. But I agree with Simon, it shouldn't happen till the end, like the last season. The show is all about Patrick Jane getting revenge over what happened to his wife and child, and that will always take first priority.

And I am not entirely sure about the 'sparks fly' thingy. I'm hoping it's not gonna be a repeat of the whole Kristina Frye fiasco. It would be good to see Morena Baccarin though!

  9. Whoa! Hey, people, there's no need to argue over a tv show. It's not like we have a say in what the writers/actors/Bruno Heller decide to do, is it?

I am quite sure Lisbon and Jane will eventually be pulled towards each other. I WANT THEM TO. But Simon Baker's signed for seven seasons. Robin Tunney, I believe, is signed for five (but I'm sure she'll stick to the show till the end). That's a long way to go. If they started a relationship now, out of the blue (because, as Aydrian said, they've shown little attraction to each other so far, although it seems to be there), it would probably a) look forced, as nothing really happened before and b) be the end of the show, as many fans who watch for the banter/kind of flirting would get what they want now, and would look for something else to watch.

For me (and hey, it's just me, I might be wrong :D) the best thing about this show is the relationship they have, and the little moments they enjoy or the way they slowly get closer (for example, Lisbon calling him "family" a couple of times this season, which never happened before).

But sometimes, they need to introduce a third member into the relationship. Someone to stir things up a bit. It's true that Kristina was probably wasted in those terms, but who knows what will happen with Morena. Maybe we'll see a very jealous Lisbon. Maybe Jane will be attracted to her and give Lisbon a hard time, but then make things up with her in a sweet way... who knows?

Anyway, alex_85 and Aydrian, I feel you both have a point. I don't think (and I hope they won't) Lisbon and Jane will get romantically involved till later in the series, although I really want to see the flirting/intimacy growing. And as Bruno Heller said, they have a close relationship as co-workers. At the moment, they like each other as close friends.

But sometimes, he also said, you wake up one day, and realize you've fallen for that co-worker.

  10. Oh I so agree with you ;) I don't understand why they make up this storyline (again) when the writers made it clear that Jane is pulling away from everyone but then this woman comes along?
So many ways of DNW. But I admit Baccarin is pretty cool on V and this character sounds similar to Morena.

  11. Hey just wanted to add that for everyone who watched V. You know what these aliens do to their lovers when they had sex right? XD
Dunno for me she sounds a lot like Morena.

Oh btw. I'm a bit annoyed that this storyline is so repetetive. You wonder if the writers dn't have other ideas than throwing in a woman who has spark with Jane.
Well anyway, throw in a bit more men who have sparks with Lisbon please! XD

  12. Agree. I still think they should bring Mashburn back for her ;)

    ReplyDelete
  13. & if they could make him a regular would be even more great!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I doubt their ideas when it comes to Patrick Jane .. I think Morena will be another Kristina except she's no psychic and maybe they'll connect for real this time ..

  15. It's a one episode character by the looks of things. I remember when the casting call went out a month or so ago, saying the woman will seem perfect but in fact be much darker than she seems on the surface. Anyone who's reading into this as a potential love interest for Jane is wrong. And in terms of Lisbon and Jane....anyone who gets annoyed and stops watching the show the moment one of them is attracted to someone else is an idiot, im sorry. Besides, both Bruno Heller and Simon Baker have stated that if JISBON does happen, it will be in the future/towards the end of the show. I'm fine with how they are now tbh, at least for the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's another thing: she's dark, so sparks might fly but in a romantic sense? not necessary. And even if they do, it does not mean it's more than an short-lived attraction.

Totally agree with you Connor :)

  17. "Lisbon has to have a boyfriends because Jane is getting a girlfriend" have to be the stupidest thing I ever heard. I don't want this show to become a soap opera. There's enough ship drama with the Gribsy plot.

Another woman to Patrick Jane now makes no sense to me, they didn't finish Kristina's arc yet... Is Jane that careless and selfish?

I have to say I'm pretty tired of these pointless guests when the relevant plots are being developed carelessly. I'm feeling like I'm wasting my time with this show.

  18. Holy crap, I'm not fucking asking form a sex scene, neither for a kiss, our 'jump from 0 to 60 in a blink of eye'.
I'm just asking that those cute moments from first and second season to happen again! Dear God, is that so freaking bad? I'm not asking them to get together now and fuck the show. I'm asking for the proogressive steps that will, in the future (shortly or in a lot of time, whatever), lead to a relationship, to happen again. And for those who says that they never show any kind of feeling for each other, except for friendship, tell me now, if would Lisbon have danced with cho. Or if would Van Pelt like if she had saw Lisbon with her eys closed on Risgby shoulders, dancin 'more than words' like she did to patrick. Honestly, if you don't ship them, obviously you won't think any of that, but the signs ARE there. Ok, at least, THEY WERE. Not anymore. There's no shipper anymore.

"They must get together, but not now, because is awesome to see the chemestry between them'.
I see a lot of people saying that. But where's the chemestry now? Is gone, with Simon's ego.

I'm not leaving The Mentalist because of Erica Flynn. I'm leaving because of the whole season that was a disrespect with the fans who used to ship Jane and Lisbon. Also, because the episodes are becoming weak and poor.

By the way, I hope BH remembers that the part of the fans that hold the series up, is the fandom. Or, you all know, those who ship the 'impossible' couple. Those who will watch the show as long as there's a hope for the ship, even if the show is a crap. It happens a lot with series that are almost beeing canceled, but the fandom make it keep going. AND, you can think that's ridiculous, but that's exactly what happens.

I don't know when, but if TM keeps weak as it is, someday it will be in the 'cancel danger zone'. And there will be no fandom to help.
