Salma Hayek and ABC are developing an eight-part miniseries based on the best-seller that spawned the Broadway musical "Wicked."
The project will not be a musical itself and it is unclear whether Hayek will also play a role in the mini.
The mini will be based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 book "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West." Erik Jendersen, who was a producer on HBO's "Band of Brothers," is writing the script.
Hayek and her partner Jose Tamez will produce via their Ventanarosa Productions with ABC Studios.
ABC does not have any rights to the musical, which has been in development as a feature at Universal.

ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. A musical and a tv series based on the book and a film based on the musical? Awesommmeee!
ReplyDeleteIf this follows the book, it could be amazing. I've read the book a few times, and while there are a few slow points, the book as a whole as an amazing read, with some pretty dark material, which will hopefully be brought into the show and not pushed aside.
