The Walking Dead -Due to return in July instead of October?

18 Jan 2011

Thanks to Jessica for the heads up.

Good news if true.

In the interview with NYMag, Cranston is asked about Breaking Bad's premiere being pushed back to July and he spills a little Walking Dead Season 2 news in his answer:

It was a decision from AMC that they wanted to position us in July, along with Mad Men. And I believe they're going to put Walking Dead in July as well. I think it's just a sensible thing — they want to attract as many eyeballs as possible, away from the heavy competition of the September, November, January start.'

  1. Already said it, I doubt it. They would have to be pretty fast considering Breaking Bad started shooting a few days ago. They'd have to be at least in the middle of the writing process... I also don't think they are going to air their 3 top shows at the same time, would be kind of strange for AMC.
The Killing will start in April, Mad Men & Breaking Bad around July, The Walking Dead around Halloween and Hell on Wheels sometime around November/December, would be fine with me.

  2. Maybe the plan involves Mad Men starting on late 2011 or early 2012. I've heard they're having some issue with the renewal of the contract of Matthew Weiner.

  4. As Urinal Turd said, this has been discussed before: very difficult to write, shoot and edit 13 episodes under 6 months, as AMC doesn't go "live" until all episodes are wrapped.

I must admit I find a bit strange they take Mad Men up to July. It's their top gun, it should start at the september/october 'rentreƩ'. But - hey - that's just me, I'm no expert on the matter ;)

  5. Yeah but that count also for Mad Men, and they're even more late than The Walking Dead, since Matthew isn't even sure to come back for a 5th season, so the writing hasn't started yet.

The Killing began his shooting not later than a month ago (and they're currently shooting episode 3) with the premiere set to air in less than 3 months (April 3rd). It's not impossible for TWD.
