Supernatural - Weekly Question and Poll

1 Dec 2010

Hey SPN fans! The dreaded winter hellatus will soon be upon us, so I thought we would do a weekly question for times when we don't have a new episode - a sort of Supernatural IV, if you will, to keep us going through lean times. My idea is that we would get people's nominations at the beginning of the week and then vote on the most popular answers midway through the week. What do you think? What ideas do you have for questions?

As it's been a little quiet around here since the last new episode, I thought I would pilot it now. This week's question (thanks Jillyanne!) is: What is your favorite Supernatural weapon? Do you prefer the traditional ones like sawed off shotguns, silver knives and holy water? Do you like yours a bit more exotic like the Colt or demon-killing knife? Are you partial to the everyday items that can be used as weapons like salt or the wood chipper?

Post nominations in the comments and don't forget to add future questions you are interested in. I'll put the poll up Thursday evening (midwest USA time).

Screencap from Screencap Paradise. Others found here.

  1. Off the top of my head, I would nominate the wood chipper from Weekend at Bobby's and the Sam's wicked cool curved sword from the Pilot. They seriously need to use it to kill something sometime. At least bring it back.

  2. the woodchipper from Weekend At Bobby's was totally awesome...im trying super hard to think of all the weapons right now haha. From what I can remember, its not a weapon really, but the holy oil/ring of fire is kinda awesome. And I remember from that one episode when Dean was torturing Alastair (the episode name eludes me right now), Dean used a syringe of holy water and injected it into him. When I saw that the first time, I thought it was awesome

  3. omg yeah I thought omg this is gonna hurt LOL! Best torture technic ever

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love the colt!! Seriously my favorite It's a sexy gun, an antique, and it has some serious power. I also liked Ruby's knife.
As far as a future question.... maybe favorite funny moment or episode to date? I'm not too good at thinking of creative questions, but it's a try.

  5. I really liked Dean's machete that he used when he was hacking up those vampires in "Live Free or Twi-hard." But I must say it's a tie between the Colt (how could I not love this weapon?) and Sam's curved sci-fi-looking scythe that we caught a glimpse of in the Pilot but never got to see in action, unfortunately.

Also, does Sam's Hand of Ipecac count as a weapon? Because damn if I wasn't shocked, excited, and mindblown when he whipped that bad boy out in the Season 4 opener.

  6. My favorite Supernatural weapon only works for for one person - Sam.

    Demon blood.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm caught between two. Definitely the wood chipper. If was fabulous. I would add the demon killing knife to that list. I'll never forget the screams in our household and people jumping in the air shouting yes when Sam held Ruby and Dean drove that knife into her. One of the best scenes in the show as far really feeding a need that a particular person needed to be ganked. I love Genevieve, but she played Ruby too well. I hated Ruby. lol I also believe Sam's using the Impala to go into the home so the Woman in White faced her own demons and was taken by her murdered children was a good weapon. Come to think of it, the Impala is what brought Sam to his senses in Swan Song.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sam's 'Hand of Ipecac'.
    Marcy Ward's woodchipper.
    Ruby's knife.
And Dean's snark must surely count as a weapon?????

    ReplyDelete
  9. Good point - we should definitely have the Impala on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Shotgun and rock salt - never leave home without it!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I've never been able to find good screencaps either, Dahne. I'm half tempted to whip out my DVD set and cap a few moments of that scene just because the weapon looks so awesome!

The only high-quality photo I've managed to find is the one that they used on the S1 DVD cover: http://www.supernatural.tv/pictures/displayimage.php?pid=4&fullsize=1

  12. ;P ooohh TOTALLY! She beated the devil, so she's the best! <3 you Metallicar

    ReplyDelete
  13. My first reaction was to say that my favorite weapon is SAM... But you're right, it's the demon blood that's actually making him the weapon. So that.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm also a big fan of Death's scythe and I hope it returns in the Appointment In Samarra episode.

  15. Thanks. With all the screencaps floating around for SPN, you'd think I would be able to find what i was looking for. If you do decide to screencap, let me know. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

    ReplyDelete
  16. On the Head of a Pin - that episode disturbed me more than most. Dean torturing was a sight to see and the holy water thing made me shiver.

I think the holy oil/ring of fire can definitely be considered a weapon. They did stop an archangel with it. Besides, it is one of the cooler looking ones.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll add them to the list. I love the Colt too. I remember that scene where Dean shoots Tom and they have that great shot of him holding the Colt. The Colt gets bonus points for taking out Azazel. Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sam's Hand of Ipecac definitely counts. Not to mention it has the best name! Anyone know who named it that?

    ReplyDelete
  19. It was definitely one of the most powerful weapons they had. Too bad it had those unfortunate side effects.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Personally I love when one brother is being beaten to a pulp by some spirit while the other salts and burns the bones just in time. Also how about the newest weapon...a vial of sugar for the faeries!

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Impala as both weapon and sanctuary - hmm. I like that. Well, I like the Impala in any role she plays. :-)

One of my favorite scenes too is when they ganked Ruby. Loved it!!! It was the most needed scene that whole season. I actually clapped and my family thought I was nuts!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Couldn't have done it without your awesome question. Thanks!

And yes, Dean's snark is definitely weapon-worthy. He uses it to take out snotty obnoxious art dealers if nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Can't go wrong with the classics. I know I always have cans of salt around now. I wouldn't want Sam to call me a "low-sodium freak."

    ReplyDelete
  24. That was one wicked looking weapon. I guess as Death Dean can choose whatever weapon he wants. I can't wait to see this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  25. One of the most memorable "weapons" of all time, to me, was also the most hilariously useless. The bug spray and lighter in the "bugs" episodes. I still laugh when I see that scene.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anything that kills angels, demons, and reapers is a "must have" in my book. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. If we have a poll on the best way someone has died, I would be tempted to go the tried and true salt and burn. It was such a mainstay in season 1 that i kind of miss it these days. When's the last time we saw a good salt and burn?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Supernatural wiki says it was first used on a Television Without Pity forum by Arena Woman

    ReplyDelete
  29. If that was the question, I'd go with Jo and Ellen blowing themselves up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks. They had Metallicar too but we have the Campbell Soup Kids (thanks SuePo) and Grandpa Creepy (thanks rochey) so we're gaining on them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh and Cas' angel sword - or any angel sword for that matter - especially the one Dean used to stab Zach in the throat. Now that was almost on a par with the Ruby stabbing scene :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd vote for that too :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh man, I loved that scene too. Again, the most needed scene of the season. That's it, when we go on hiatus the first question is going to be best death scene.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh yes pleeeeaaaase!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Same... Except, :(

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Colt
Curved Sword thing from the pilot
    Demon Blood
    Ruby's Knife
    Holy Water
    The Impala
Rabbit's Foot (led to the infamous lost shoe!)
    Witch's Hex Bags (FRICKN' WITCHES!)
    Dean's Snark
    Staff of Moses
    The Machete
    Sawed off Shotgun
    Rock Salt
Vermicci (Sp?) Ashes (from Crossroad Blues)
    Hellhounds
The HOOK (You know... from Hookman?)
Water (used by spirits more than once this series...)
    Demonic Flashy-Light Thing
    WOODCHIPPER!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Of course you're right - my hands type faster than my brain :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's a loooong list Wilson - you sure you can't think of any more??

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow! That's some list! I'm impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great list, except...

HELLHOUNDS. The MOST disappointing thing of the show in my opinion. They were so hyped-up, and then... omg!.... they're coming!... and....!! they're invisible. Yeah. You get intimidated by those scratches. Or disturbed water.

They've made that element more acceptable after (the showoff with Ruby last season), but at the time, I was just so let down.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Did you use a bamboo dagger?
    Yeah.
    Blessed by a Shinto priest?
    I'm not as imbecile Bobby.
Did you stab it 7 times?
    5 times.
    It's 7.
    No I'm pretty sure it's 5.
Clearly it's 7 times, the damn hole is empty.......

    ReplyDelete
  42. Gotta say... I like the simplicity + the superstitious-ness of salt. The Clap Your Hands ep even gave it another use [well in the Supernatural Universe], and it's just got that... been there forever and used by normal people all the time, but also has that dual function... It's just got an Old World feel to it.. though unless it's being poured down a possessed person's throat or w/e, it's really more of a defensive thing, but still.. There's something about it like a home cooked meal that no 5 star restaurant can top. xD

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have to say that I love Sam's epic hand motion when he sucks the demon out of the host, if you can call it a supernatural weapon...

I'm going to go with the traditional (sawed off shotguns, silver knives, machetes and holy water) because they're a great standby and can be used on almost every supernatural creature.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ruby's Knife the angel sword that killed Zach and my favorite Dean's pearl handled gun (can't remember which caliber it is but that's awesome for me

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dean's trusty pearl-handled automatic.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well, I like the shotguns. But, in the season five Dean killed "the whore of Babylon" with a wooden stake or something, seems like a twig... Anyways. The only one who could kill the "whore" was the father of the girl possessed, or, the priest there, cause the whore could only be killed by a true "Servant of Heaven". But in the end of the episode Dean killed her with the twig cause he was the chosen one for Michael's vessel, so he had the necessary power to do that. I found this episode awesome cause Dean and everybody who was watching this were surprised with this end. (I think this episode was "99 Problems")

  47. Well, if for no other reasons than the timeliness of it. I think my favorite weapon right now is the Evergreen branches skewering the Hold Nickar/s (hmm is an "S" needed to make it plural?) in A Very SPN Xmas. I have had more than a few thoughts ofevergreen death when being forced to listen to Xmas muzak in November, hearing chiming bells of Salvation Army collectors when I run errands, or getting 15+ phone calls a week from various charity drop off points/second hand stores requesting donations despite the fact I gave some when fall started AND I am on a no call list. Bah humbug!
Personally I like the Colt, but not because it is the coolest weapon or most fun.... the mythology of it and the history attahced to it I find interesting.
Also, does dead man's blood count as a weapon? I mean... can't exactly fling a drop of it on a vamp to kill it but when combined with a weapon it does the trick. Hmmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was bored and went on a web hunt for the knife and did not find and good screencaps, however, I found this link of the knife. http://mygeneralnetwork.com/2010/08/art-from-the-web-klaww-of-death/ and a HiRes promo with the knife, but it is just the season one DVD box cover without text.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sawed offs, though the wood chipper was great too. But I'm going with sawed off shotguns.

I love it when the guys come out with the sawed off shotguns or the enormous pistols. The silver pistol that Dean carries is awesome. There is nothing more sexy or filled with testosterone than that. It really revs my engine!

I would like to know what everyone's opinion is on Dean's future love life and where they'd like to see that go. His relationship with Lisa was wonderful at the end of last season, but I'm torn between the loving side of him and the funny girl-chaser that brought so much laughter to the show. How would everyone like to see that play out and the transition Dean would make one way or the other?

ahh I can't remember the name of it but it was like wires that Sam used to chop Gordon's head off! =D

    ReplyDelete
  52. ...I don't even know how to completely respond to that. I think the Hellhounds have always been one of the scarier things on SPN and I kinda like how they are cloaked...I have a feeling they'd look awfully cheesy on SPN's budget.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I can't even begin to describe how much I loved that episode!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Angel-Killing (Plastic-looking) sword?
And there's that big wooden stake thing that Cas gave Dean to Kill the WHORE of Babylon with.
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. What can I say? I've been hitting the SPN DVDS really hard lately. lol

    ReplyDelete
  56. Aw I just thought of that--why'd you have to post that before me! XD

    ReplyDelete
  57. Uhmm...his bare hands?
    OH and barbed wire?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Dean's golf club ;P

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks. That is one wickedly cool looking blade.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hmm, good question, I think I would go with the demon killing knife.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Currently we have the following 33 weapons (in no particular order) in the running. Let's try to narrow the list down to 5-8. Which ones would you most want to see in the vote on Thursday.

Microwave (Clap You Hands if You Believe)
    Wood chipper (Weekend at Bobby's)
    Barbed Wire (Fresh Blood)
Sam's curved blade (aka Klaw of Death) from Pilot
Golf club (Exile on Main St.)
    Holy oil fire ring
    Holy water
    The Colt
    Ruby's knife
Dean's machete (Live Free or Twihard)
    Sam's Hand of Ipecac
    Demon blood
    The Impala (aka Metallicar)
    Dean's snark
    Bamboo dagger (Weekend at Bobby's)
    Dean's pearl-handled pistol
    Dead man's blood
    Shotguns (sawed-off and otherwise)
    Salt
    Dean's scythe
    Fists
    Ashes (Crossroad Blues)
    Hook (Hookman)
Water (Dead in the Water, Playthings, etc.)
    Bug spray and lighter (Bugs)
    Angel-killing sword
Rabbit's foot (Bad Day at Black Rock)
    Hex bags
Staff of Moses (The Third Man)
    Hellhounds
Demonic flash thing (not sure but maybe like in Jus in Bello?)
Wooden stake / Evergreen branch (99 Problems / A Very SPN Christmas)
    Electric saw (Bloodlust)

What do you want to stay and what do you think should go?

    ReplyDelete
  62. The demon-killing knife, silver bullets, and the Colt are a good combo for any kind of supernatural monster on any given day. Good question to start off with. Not looking forward to such a long break this time, but everyone deserves some off every once in a good while.

    ReplyDelete
  63. My choices for the vote are:
    woodchipper - nothing trumps woodchipper
colt - killed YED :) but not Lucifer :(
Ruby's knife - killed by her own weapon - poetic justice
Sam's Hand of Ipecac - cause that was just awesome
Impala - the most important object in the universe
Dean's snark - THE sharpest thing on the planet
Angel sword - shiny and sharp and killed Zach
Microwave - purely for its comic value

    ReplyDelete
  64. All of the above!!! XD

    ReplyDelete
  65. Oh, okie dokie. Woodchipper. That pretty much trumps... everything.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wait, where's the buzzsaw from The KIds Are Alright? One of my favourite deaths of all time. :(

Anyways, my votes go to: Ruby's Knife
    Hand of Ipecac
    Microwave
    Holy water
    Shotgun
    The Colt

    ReplyDelete
  67. HAHAHA I just saw that episode . Microwave popcorn will never be the same...........

    ReplyDelete
  68. I can find you one i think dahne I have a friend on twitter that does screen caps. and yes he does have S.C. of pilot. Lemme see if he has the blade.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Dean's sawed off shotguns I LOVE them

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thanks for trying. For one little wickedly cool blade it is very hard to find a picture.

    ReplyDelete
  71. *sigh* ........how many hours left till Caged Heat???? :(

    ReplyDelete
  72. Way too many considering I have to wait until it downloads from iTunes in order to see it this week. Darn those plans that cannot be changed. I rarely had this problem on Thursdays.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The only other one I can think of that hasn't been mentioned isn't really a weapon per se..... the big honkin' magnet Dean pulled out to erase the video shot by the Ghostfacers. :) They really needed to be erased. But my favorite is a classic that has stood the test of time: Dean's nickel plated Colt 1911. Pretty and shiny.....

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yeah, I have a family wedding to go to on Saturday - so I'll probably have to wait till Sunday to see it - darn family ;P

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ha! Unfortunately that doesn't help narrow things down.

My narrowed list would include: wood chipper, pearl-handled pistol, angel sword, tree branch/stake, saw, scythe, shotguns, Colt, and of course Dean's snark

    ReplyDelete
  76. The Colt, Ruby's knife, Holy Oil, The Woodchipper, Sam's curved blade, and perhaps, most importantly, SALT! :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Andrea Helgadóttir2 December 2010 at 15:49
