Best One-Shot Antagonist or Monster (Season 2)
This week is getting off to a good start with lots of engaging comments about season 1. Now we're on to season 2. For me it's no contest, but season 2 definitely has some strong fan favorites of the antagonist or monster variety. Don't forget to voice your choice in the comments. Help us all get through hiatus with less pain.
There's still time to vote for season 1 too. In case you missed it, go here.

The Djinn.
ReplyDeleteSee, I really can do concise.
The Djinn was amazing-looking. I only wish we got to see more of him.
ReplyDeleteWow, we get two seasons in one day? ;)
ReplyDeleteI voted for the djinn too, mostly because he was blue and with tatoos :P but also he had like the coolest way to destroy people ever - give them some happy juice and make believe their wish came true, then trap them inside their heads and sponge on them. I would vote for the rakasha/evil clown if I could as well, cause he was the creepiest clown ever!! I loved the Croats as antagonists too, but more like a whole group of people than single characters. Or maybe I just liked the virus as a non-human or non-human-like piece of evil the brothers had to deal with (if we could think of more of such, maybe that could also be a topic for a separate poll?).
And I'm sorry I complain this much, but is Meg-possesed Sam really a one shot antagonist? it's a recurring character inside a body of the main character, so I have a problem thinking of it as one-shot...
I voted for demon posessed Sam. Is it wrong that I thought he was super hot in that episode?
ReplyDeleteI have questions about it too, but I don't want people to riot. :-) In the end, I'm sticking to my vow to not vote for any one-shot characters that wear the body of main characters. Although I expect that Meg-Possessed Sam will run away with this poll.
ReplyDeleteEach poll will be open for 2 days of voting so technically, where I am from, season 1 was yesterday and season 2 is today. Season 3 will open tomorrow. This is the only way I can get 5 days of polling in while still giving people 2 days to nominate their favorites and have a good general idea of who won for the results on Monday. All I can say is that I'm glad we are only doing 5 seasons. At 6 it gets more complicated. :-)
I also chose the djinn because it has the best way to kill someone. Imagine being stuck inside your fantasy while someone is bleeding you dry. On one hand, who doesn't want to go out happy. On the other, everything you see is a complete lie. The djinns are genius, well until the were ret-conned this year. I hate when they do that.
Lol. I wasn't thinking super hot; I was thinking super creepy after the emo part of course. But I have a feeling you weren't alone in that assessment. :-P
ReplyDeleteYeah, I realized that just after writing this post, that's why I edited it. But still I got excited seing that in the morning I can vote for season 1 and in the evening for season 2. Does it mean I spend too much time coming back to this site over and over again? ;)
ReplyDeletePossessed and evil Sam is always super hot
ReplyDeleteyea...he got kinda creepy after he knocked Jo unconscious and tied her up, but until then he was hot. And even though he was creepy, there was still some hot quality
ReplyDeleteI practically live here. I think it is sad that my time on SpoilerTV is cutting into the time I used to use to actually watch TV. I'm down at least 4 TV shows this year because I spend so much time here. It may be time for an intervention.
ReplyDeleteHaving just professed my undying love for shifters in the previous poll, I'm now going to back pedal like crazy....
ReplyDeleteI think Nightshifter worked for a whole lot of reasons that didn't lie solely with the shifter ie Ron Reznick, mandroids, Styx, Victor Henriksen, Sam and Dean being surrounded then pursued by SWAT, 'we are so screwed'.....
The shifter was definitely scary and evil, but nothing compares to the djinn......
Thanks to him we got to see Dean's ultimate fantasy.......an insight that was heartbreaking while informative...
and really what a way to go.....except.....gross...and disturbing....
and the tats and blue skin.....
So.
Djinn
Meg-Possessed Sam! I love Jared playing the bad.. guy? Sam as Meg, Sam as Lucy, RoboSam. Oh, and I loved his wicked laugh!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, but I'm also happy that our Sammy returns in the next epi ;)
ReplyDeleteH. H. Holmes -- Disturbing, Sadistic, and just plain Creepy and terrifying... as he was meant to be!!
ReplyDeleteMeg-possesed Sam- Coz Jared's acting was Awesome!!
ReplyDeleteMeg Possessed Sam
ReplyDeleteJared was freakin best <3
Djinn and its frightening way of killing people with their own wishes/desires/happiness. It was creepy and conflicting all at the same time. I really feared Dean was going to allow the djinn to take him, but thankfully he didn't and Sam was there to get him out of it. Plus the djinn looked freaky with its tattoos all over his body. Meg-possessed Sammy I don't consider a one-shot antagonist, but it's entirely understandable why it's up there. lol. "My daddy shot your daddy in the head..." a very creepy line, but I still liked the djinn better under these circumstances. ;)
ReplyDeleteMeg-Sam hands down!!!
ReplyDeleteJared rocked big time!!!
I'llo with the djinn. It's another instance of it being in one of my favourite episodes - What is and What Should Never be is probably number one on my list. Just a perfect episode.
ReplyDeleteFor the monster itself - it had strategy, was pretty powerful, had tatoos, and the blue hand was pretty cool. What more can you want?
Aww, but I like the long, convoluted explanations. :)
ReplyDeleteFor reasons previously explained, I went for Madison in 'Heart', my all time favourite MOTW. Or antagonist of the week for that matter.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone, Possessed Sam is super hot and Jared's Meg was dead on.
ReplyDeleteI voted for the Djinn because I really love that episode and the djinn himself is so cool and creepy.
ReplyDeleteThe djinn was creepy - especially as it gave Dean what he thought he wanted but, as usual for the poor bugger, it was a flawed ideal.
ReplyDeleteIn this season though I'm with Sam and choose Rakshasa, the clown that kills. Clowns are eeeeevil!
I agree, Jilly. The Djinn not only gave me the creeps, it forced Dean to make a choice once he figured out what was happening and the choice was, of course, what was best for everyone else. I still love that ep and think carmen had the best chemistry with Dean of all the love interests. <"How did I get such a cool chick?"... "I just have low standards."> One of my favorite lines of all time!
ReplyDeletedeffinatley the evil clown. i've said it before and i'll say it again, that thing was EVIL!!!!!
ReplyDeletejust that image of it standing beside the road as the little girl passes in her car, creepiest shot ever!!!!
didn't vote for possesed sam/meg because IMO both sam and meg have been in more than one episode, even if not 'together'.
I voted Meg-Possessed Sam.. damn, after reading all the comments about how hot/creepy Sam was, I gotta watch that episode again! I have to agree, he was so creepy, but that's what made him so hot! :')
ReplyDeleteI never truly understood clown fear until I saw that episode. Very, very disturbing indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe creepiest shot to me was the clown holding the little boy's hand as the dad wakes up. It's bad enough your idiot kid let's in a stranger but then to wake up to that clown face. Absolutely terrifying.
ReplyDeleteyep, that clown wouldn't have to kill me, I'd die of a heart attack before he'd even touch me.
ReplyDeleteRight?!, right now I'm laughing myself to death
ReplyDeleteDitto about the idiot kid thing... in fact on the Television Without Pity site they named the recap for that epiosde "The Hardy Boys and the Case of the Idiot Children."
ReplyDeleteIt is not even a hard choice out of this group that Meg possessed Sam would be my choice. That is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. It was great Meg possessing Sam. A great way of getting revenge on Sam and Dean was taking over Sam and having him be powerless to control himself. The bar scene between Sam and Jo was so intense and then Dean busts into the bar and there is possessed Sammy begging him to kill him because he can't get control was great. Dean threw the holy water and the truth was out. Exorcising Sam was the best moment in that episode. That laugh Sam had after Dean tried to exorcise the demon out of him (Dean didn't realize the demon was Meg at that time) was chilling and just a moment one can not forget. I could keep rambling on but Jared rocked that performance and made Born Under a Bad Sign a classic episode.
ReplyDeleteSam is so hot and sexy as possessed Sam. I could watch that episode over and over. When Jared played that role he was awesome. Go check the episode out again you might love it even more.
ReplyDeleteI just watched it again!
ReplyDeleteGOD, what an AWESOME episode! Jared just blew my mind with his brilliant acting! And his evil laughter = OMG! That's so creepy! XD
Defiantly my favorite version of Meg! ;)
Meg posessing Sam shouldn't be there, it's still Meg.. but any way hahaha . THE DJINN! Loved it, the actor was awesome (if what eric said in the commentary is true : he had the make up on for like 5 days) and great episode SO GREAT
ReplyDeleteLOL do like me and come here while watching :D
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I do not own a laptop and my computer and TV are in different rooms. Yes, I know I'm behind the times, but I've got a car and college loan to pay off first.
ReplyDeleteAfter much re-watching (um, research) I had to go with the Djinn. The Djinn had very cool powers... making you think your dreams were coming true WHILE slowly sucking you dry. I could not vote for Meg/Sam in Season 2 or Shapeshifter Dean in Season 1, even though I loved both of those episodes. Meg/Sam and Shapeshifter Dean were wonderfully scary evil creatures (and did I say 'hot') but both were creatures wearing main character "meatsuits".
ReplyDeleteMy second choice was for the Rakshasa. I have always been a little uneasy about clowns.... this just sorta justified that uneasiness.
It was hard for me to choose between who had the best way of killing and who made my skin crawl. I really liked the idea of the Djinn killing you while making your dreams come true, and the Shapeshifter being able to put blame on anyone he wants by killing in their image. But then you also have the creepy clown taking advantage of children to kill their parents. But the one I voted for is H.H. Holmes because he embodied one of my worst nightmares of dying...
ReplyDeleteThat research is a bitch isn't it? Having to torture yourself by watching SPN over and over again.......:P
ReplyDeleteHas to be Meg possessed Sam No doubt about it.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with you there. Especially b/c Meg is not a one shot character and the fact that she was wearing Sam's meatsuit just does not seem right to be on the list. Especially b/c there are some great characters on this list that will not get noticed b/c people will be voting for Meg Possessed Sam. H.H. Holmes was creepy and great. The clown was not that scary....Now Tim Curry as IT was scary...but not this dude (no offense meant to anyone who shares in Sam's clown phobia. The Djinn was gross and creepy. Watching him drink that blood, ugh *shivers* I really wish Madison would get some love, but I guess that she really wasn't someone that gave the brothers that much trouble considering the fact that she did not know she was a werewolf, but honestly the depth and emotions of the episode was just awesome. Maybe we could have the BEST OMG Moment....The impala getting smashed at the end of season 1. Not very good with titles but there are a few of these that just makes you jump b/c you were not prepared for it and it was just soooo shocking that it took you a long time to process what had happen. Nightshifter is one of my top 10 episdoes. It is the episode where they got the writing, acting and music just perfect (a trinity, if you will). Where everything just came together perfectly for me that is. So happy spoilertv is doing this. Oh my goodness we are some really obessessed fans. It soooo awesome that I have found this site to share in my obsession :)
ReplyDeleteI really don't agree that "old Dean", "future Dean", "Jimmy", or "Meg Possessed Sam" count as one shot characters... but I still voted for Meg Possessed Sam because that episode totally freaked me out the first time I saw it... and if it is available... gotta go for it.
ReplyDeleteMeg!possesed Sam for sure. I know Meg is actually a recurring character BUT it's not so much about Meg herself but the combo of Meg posessing the younger Winchester and thereby changing him and this only happened once. It's like with the shapeshifters, reapers and djinns, they are recurring monsters but a specific incarnation is a one-shot monster.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a totally different thing. The Meg-possesed Sam is still Meg. The situation you're talking about with shapeshifters etc. would be equal to different demons. You can for example separate Meg from Ruby regardless of the bodies they use, cause these are two totally different characters, just like, lets say, the shapeshifter from Skin and the one from Monster Movie. They're the same species, but they're still two separate beings. Meg inside Sam however, is still the same demon as inside Meg Masters. It's still the same recurring character.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get my point, it's a bit difficult for me to explain what I mean in English. It's just, things like this make these polls completely unfair and I wish people would stop nominating different incarnations of recurring or main characters as one-shots.
i agree...
ReplyDeleteMia, I would never have guessed that English was not your first language. You do extremely well at expressing yourself in it. As for your opinion, I agree with you. I would consider Meg as the character no matter who she was possessing. The actors may get special kudos for taking on another character's persona, but it is still essentially Meg. You will be glad to know that I've learned something from these polls. I won't be doing one-shot things again. Too hard to be fair to everyone.
