  1. I didn't really feel Sam was angry. When he walked away from Dean it's because he knows he doesn't want his soul back and so to hell with it. He walked away and he's going to go seek the help he needs to try and keep Dean from putting it back into him. He knows his brother well enough to know just how Dean is. Together with him, he know that Dean's going to do everything in his power to not only try and talk him back into getting his soul back, but do it with no questions asked, which in Dean's case, I believe is the right thing to do because if Sam's soul is suffering, it doesn't need to be. It needs to be pulled out of there. But anyway, I didn't sense any anger from Sam. He didn't even have his trademark angry expression. He just simply walked away and that's it. Watch Sam from Season 5 and even the earlier seasons when he's been pissed and compare that to now. Trust me. There is a huge difference. He's not pissed. He's just driven.

  2. The blood was so Sam could Draw the Demon trap. He didn't have anything other that blood to draw with and didn't have anything other than teeth to get the blood out. And I figured they showed it just to add to the OMG part lol

  3. Either Crowley never was in charge or hell has one scary job turnover rate. Maybe Meg becomes the Queen of Hell?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think she was referring to the preview for next episode where Sam thinks he needs Bobby blood to remain soul-free.

  5. I wouldn't count out the Alphas yet. They obviously have their own plan and it sounds pretty nasty. My guess is that they stay in the forefront. Plus, it's likely that Crowley had a boss himself so purgatory may still be on the table. They just don't know who the real head honcho is yet. Sam's soul is still the main focus for Dean so it will remain a hot topic for us. We might get a lot accomplished on that front next episode but unlike others, I don't think it will be done then. I'm sure they will make us sweat it out over the winter hiatus before bringing that story line to a close.

  6. i think it was too soon to kill Crowley i thought he would be the atagonist of the whole season i guess not though so with crowley dead who's in command of Hell Now?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah, and it was Lucifer who killed him. Not Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Still doesn't matter. This is Sam's soul we're talking about. You know how Dean is about his little brother. He always throws himself in front of the bus for that kid. He always has and I think he always will. He did it back in Season 2 because he couldn't live with his brother dead. So if Dean can trade his own soul for Sam's life just so his brother could live, then he's going to do it. He'll do the same thing now. He's lived and fought by Sam's side for 24+ years now. (not counting the years he was in college) He doesn't care. That's his little brother and nobody screws with Sam while Dean Winchester's around.

  9. You're right, he'll be back. But he better be very careful around Dean and not turn his back to him. Dean doesn't take to being betrayed very well. I don;t think he considers Gpa family anymore. I understand Gpa wanting his daughter back, but can you really justify sacrificing a living person's soul to bring back someone from the dead? He's pretty messed up.

  10. Bobby died for a few minutes in the Season 5 finale...

  11. I've been debating with myself about the writing of the episode. Not so much for the individual episode, which was pretty great (though I do think I winced at one or two lines that didn't sound natural), but for what it means for the season.

After all, before this episode we had four major plots running: Samuel and the brothers trying to find the alphas, Crowley trying to find purgatory, Sam trying to get his soul back, and the war in heaven. This episode essentially got rid of two, if not three, of those plots. Now that Crowley is dead (or stuck permanently in hell... they were never totally clear on what burning the bones does to a demon since it looks like it kills them, but all it does to ghosts is that it makes it so the spirits can't exist on Earth any more... they have to move on to the afterlife), the search for purgatory is over. Which means the search for the alphas is technically over. And now with Cas, Crowley, and Sam all believing that Sam shouldn't get his soul back, that plot line has been significantly dampened.

While what happened in this episode was great for this episode, it did horrible things for what had been set up for this season, unless 1) someone else decides to take up the search for purgatory and/or the alphas, 2) Crowley is somehow brought back, or 3) it turns out that those things were never important anyway (maybe Crowley was lying about it all), and the season is going to stick with the civil war in heaven/heavenly weapons for the remaining episodes.

  12. Dean did it back in Season 2... Granted, it was his own soul that he was sacrificing, but it's the same deal, and that's what Dean was trying to get across to Samuel when he was saying, "Trust me; bringing someone back through a demon deal is never a good idea."

  13. One of the best episodes of this season, right up there with Weekend at Bobby's.

  14. Wow. That ep hit on all fronts. I love that Dean has come such a long way in his view of what they should do. He doesn't want to keep making the same mistakes. Trying to get through to Samuel was heartbreaking, tho. The man wants his daughter back, I can understand that, but at the sacrifice of his grandsons? How in the hell would he ever be able to explain that to Mary? if I were him, I'd be looking over my shoulder from now on. He hasn't really met Dean Winchester the hunter. I'm not sure he really knows who he's dealing with. Dean still desperately wants his brother back, but I think he knows where the line is now... will he cross it yet again to save Sam?

I can completely understand why Sam would decide he's better off without a soul. Everyone keeps telling him he has no chance of ever being normal or whole since they all seem convinced his soul is in tatters. I'm not so sure. I'm still not going to just take Castiel's word -- and certainly not Crowley's -- that the cage is still where his soul is. It very well could be, but I think that's too obvious. I'm holding out that Sam's soul is retrievable and he can be okay. The writers have themselves in a hole, but I'm sure they have a twist and a plan to spring on us to make it all come together.

It was actually nice to see Sam come to Dean's rescue this time. I'm sure Dean wasn't sure he could count on his brother at all. But to have him walk away, again. How many times can the poor guy get left behind and not just give up? Of course, that's not Dean. He doesn't give up.

I loved this episode. It was creepy and had me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed Meg, but everytime a demon works with the boys, they end up betraying them (demons... can't trust 'em.) But she was a good nemesis for Crowley. I was sad to see him go, he was truly a character you loved to hate. I will miss his snarky banter with Dean.

Next week looks amazing. Can hardly wait to see Dean on the job as Death. And Sam threatening Bobby? How can he think that's a good idea? Does getting his soul back scare him enough to actually harm someone he considers family? I know he can't feel anything, but every cell in his brain has to be shouting WRONG! I'm kind of scared for Bobby. After all, he is the only character who has never actually died. On Supernatural, that makes him one unique individual.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He'll be back but I'm thinking it will be because he needs the Winchesters instead of revenge. I hope whatever it is goes badly though, because I really, really want him to die. Ugh - I'm going to rename you Grandpa Irritating cuz you're more pathetic than creepy now. Unless you end up the big bad this season and that would be all kinds of awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  16. NO ONE CAN SAY THAT ABOUT CHRISTIAN! EVEN GRAMPS DIDN'T MISS HIM TOO MUCH!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I absolutely loved this episode. So much had happened! Crowley died! D: Aw....he was so awesome, but I guess it had to happen sometime. Still makes me a little sad. lol Cas watching and talking about porn was friggin' hilarious and "I was just copying what the pizza boy did". lmao! So much action happened in this episode, which was a plus! But by the end of the episode I just wanted to cry. Not because it sucked, but it was just sad to me. We've got angels and demons both saying that Sam's soul is as good as gone, and that trying to get it back would basically be useless. That just sucks major! I

I didn't want to hear Sam say that he possibly didn't want his soul back, but I knew it was coming and to have them separated again. Gosh, slug in the chest that was. Because now what? What can the bros do now that things have become more complicated?

Overall this episode rocked on all levels of entertainment! I knew there was a reason I loved SPN, and this episode just reminded me of it. Next episode looks interesting to say the least with Dean becoming "death" for a day and Sam....doing something very bad. lol

  18. Aww, Crowley. I'm going to miss you and your evil snarky ways. Can't say the same to you Christian.

  19. Oh I know. Are You gonna kiss me? This was funny, but it does make you wonder what exactly went on in Hell for Dean besides the torture. The look on his face when his time there was mentioned. Dean hasn't forgotten at all.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Castiel watching the porn was hysterical. His using the kissing techniques on Meg was something to see. Dean's reaction to both scenes was so funny.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This episode was by far the best written and directed of all of them, except for Jensen's directing which was superb. The writer who wrote this really knew his stuff. Wow, what a storyline. What a lot of changes in one hour. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Initial thoughts -

It was bizarre. It was awesome. I need to watch it again.

    ReplyDelete
  23. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Sam being a complete douche after Cas showed up but then having Cas tell Dean that he wants Sam to live? Oh, PREcious!

And the sexual content? Refreshing to say the least. The gay jokes were fun and very Dean-like. Cas watching porn and talking about it? Cas mimicking the pizza boy with Meg? And Dean's head scratching? Oh Jensen, you do awkward!Dean so well.

But Jared. Jared, Jared, Jared...That last bit. Amazing RoboSam, even though him being angry has been a question amongst fans. But there's a reason why the boys have abandonment issues Meg. Sam's left Dean yet again by choice.

And Crowley wanting purgatory and throwing Cas' position in Heaven into his face? I saw he wanted a two-front war with Heaven. Getting it from all sides possible and the only place demon-free is purgatory. Now Meg's back downstairs and safe from getting on the rack again. Gramps wasn't in the building from what we could tell and well, that means another player's still in the game. And he might be mad, might be furious really but we don't know what. He might also get what Dean meant by learning from their mistakes. Or Dean might just try and kill him, which he won't because he's his mother's son and he at least believes in blood.

Random note though, I wanted Gwen. Just so we could see a catfight. But the angel on demon action was pretty satisfying too. Meg approved of the virgin after all.

  24. Wow...Just when I was losing hope for this season, it picked right back up and delivered on ALL fronts! Outstanding episode!

    Although I can't believe Crowley's dead!!

EDIT: also, "Caged Heat" really summed this sexed up episode did it not?
"Are You gonna kiss me!?" lol

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm pretty sure it was the Alpha shapeshifter.

I thought it was amazing. Perfection. Every scene a drop of goodness.

    But... CROWLEY DIED! NOOOOO...

Sam trapping the two demons was pretty cool. Also, the return of the demon killing knife, which if I remember correctly this is the first time they've used it this season.

I still wonder why crowley wanted purgatory. Which brings me to Samuel - what happened to him? Would've been nice to get some follow through.

Oh well. A fantastic episode that really makes season six look amazing. Until now it's been just looking great - there's a difference!
Edit: Oops - forgot about Christian getting killed by Dean. That was great.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also, LOL forever at Cas watching porn. I laughed the entire way through the rest of that part, through the commercial break, and until we got to the news about Sam's soul.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think Samuel will be back to get revenge on the boys and Cas for taking his chance away at getting Mary back.

    Loved the episode.

  28. One of the best episodes of this season! I loved it so much. I want Crowley back so bad!

And I ship Cas/Meg now. I need fic, like immediately!

    ReplyDelete
  29. It was the Alpha!Shapeshifter, I guess. Crowley was interrogating him.

    I'll miss Crowley... :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. Awesome!!!!! I liked it so much! Many questions right now! Crowley is really died? What's happen next? Sam & the Blood again?? Sam leave his brothers to the end, why? Really awesome! Can't wait the next!

  31. Awesome episode, missed the first 5 minutes can someone tell me what the deal with the 2 crowleys was.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hmm.. I felt kinda neutral.. Either I need to to rewatch it.. or I need to go soul searching. o3o;;

    ReplyDelete
  33. Surely Crowley has to come back?! ... It was good to see Meg too :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Favourite episode of the season. it was funny, surprising just brilliant
but as far as the season long arc goes i don't understand where they can go from here as far as supernatural bad guys are concerned. they have dealt with the hell side of the apocalypse aftermath, maybe after they get sam's soul back (that plot line cant last all season surely.) they will start helping Castiel with the war in heaven that he has mentioned in every episode he has been in.
But as far as the show goes best episode all season (maybe even last 2 seasons.)

    ReplyDelete
  35. i fell it's like there are 3 or 4 people just focusing every episode to choose
either ( Poor or Awful ) Why ?????????
the episode was Awesome every thing about it was just perfect
i loved 2 hate Crowley , but i was ok with him gone this episode
coz he used 2 be kinda of funny but now he is just starting 2 be more of a bitch
glad 2 c Meg back , glad that Dean finish Christian and he looked so satisfied with it so mine
the scene with Meg & Hell Hounds was awesome , Glad 2 get some payback from these dogs
even if it was by Meg , Cas was just Hilirious lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. The only part I didn't like was Meg on the torture table. Not because I like Meg, but because it was weird and felt like a rehash of season4's Ruby. At least that served a purpose. This didn't serve anything at all.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am thinking the same thing. Hiatus is going to be torture, as usual.

  38. Just fell in love with Supernatural all over again <3

Dean: you are so awesomely, sexily, frustratingly, desperately, dysfunctionally, the BEST brother/hunter/demonbusting dude EVER! <3
Even Cas the 'cable guy' angel proved himself several steps above dickbag.
    And Crowley................
G'bye douchewad. May you rest in..........eternal agony........
along with Christian.....................(Yay - two creepettes down - one to go....)
and (hopefully real soon) Grandpa Creepy (you nasty, two-faced, sad excuse for a grandpa.)
And Sam: you awesomely, sexily, frustratingly, desperately, dysfunctionally, SICK, soulless
baby-man.......my heart bleeds for you..........and your brother............ :(

    Awesome episode.

Even though I had to stay up till 1:30 am to watch it - with the beginnings of a mild hangover setting in.........I love you SPN <3

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sigh.... one of these days soon I will be cuaght up and able to partake in the SPN fun that is the most active thread every week. Well, excluding squeeing or whining shippers for various Glee couples. Onto Season 5......

  40. Lot of random thoughts running through my head during this episode. On the one hand the voice from the angel on my shoulder was telling me that Sam and Cas were more believable than I’ve thought for many episodes now. The demon on my other shoulder thinks there’s more going on here.

The Angel: Sam jumped quickly to Dean’s aid when Dean was led away. Sam instinctively wants to protect Dean.

The Demon: There was a slight hesitation when Meg asked Sam how he knew she was running from Crowley. The delivery of his answer sounded like a lie.

The Angel: Sam is being up front now about not wanting his soul back.

The Demon: Sam knew in the last episode that he didn’t want his soul back (when he turned down the leprechaun before exploring the offer) yet in the beginning of this episode he was selling Dean on the need to keep working with Crowley. What Sam has really been trying to accomplish is getting Dean working for Crowley. Why? Maybe he was secretly working for Crowley against Dean?

The Angel: Cas’s motives seemed believable. I’ve suspected for a while that he was afraid of the condition of what Sam’s soul might be in and doesn’t want to release a big evil into the world. For that reason he was being not as forthcoming as he could have been regarding Dean’s efforts to resoul Sam.

The Demon: Cas burned Crowley a little too quickly. I thought Crowley might start talking once he saw that Cas had his bones, but Cas didn’t give him a chance to get anything out. Did he want to shut up Crowley? And why does Cas suddenly care so much about the welfare of unsouled Sam?

The Angel: Cas burning Crowley proved Cas wasn’t working with Crowley.

The Demon: This burning could have been an act set up by Cas and Crowley if the two were working together and have some other agenda, or Cas may have decided to terminate the partnership.

Me: If Crowley was written off this early in the season, that means that Crowley wasn’t the big evil and may have been working for someone else.

The Demon: Could that someone have been Sam’s soul -- much more powerful now in the afterlife after the demon blood and his experience in hell??

The Angel: If soulless Sam was trying to get Dean under Crowley’s thumb, could that mean that souled
Sam hasn’t turned bad yet? Maybe’s Sam’s relationship with Dean is keeping Sam from turning bad, so the response was trying to get Dean on Hell's side?

The Demon: Could souled Sam have been pulling the strings and trying to turn Dean because he’s bad now and wants his brother to join him on the dark side?

The Angel: If souled Sam is more powerful and is still good, maybe he can help Cas with his angel problems.

The Demon: If souled Sam is more powerful, maybe Cas considers him to be in the same category as Heaven’s missing nukes and fears his power.

Great episode! The shapeshifter and Crowley was a great opening. The opening with Cas and the "pizza man" was hilarious. Crowley not having any idea about Sam's soul was a good twist. I thought Cas left open the possibility that he would be able to come up with another alternative for Sam. We know more now about just what a hard time Cas is having. Who knows, maybe he'll become a rogue angel hunter.

Sam's lack of a soul was obviously how he was able to bite his own arm and use the blood to make the demon's trap. That took a lot of blood. I don't think the old Sam would have thought of that.

My dislike of Samuel just keeps growing. Why doesn't he want his wife Deanna back also? I'm still suspicious of who he really is. It seems convenient to me that he was pining for Mary's return instead of his wife. He obviously knew this would have more impact on the guys.

I'm glad that Appointment in Samarra doesn't look so dark. It'll be good to have this before the holiday break.

  42. lol. Enjoy Season 5! It's awesome. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. OMG THEY KILLED CROWLEY! Wait no CAS killed Crowley.... NO! I LOVE HIM! But it was cool so its okay, who is king of hell now.. I didnt like that they did the bones thing again though hehehe.

Okay I'll have to rewatch cause in the beggining of that ep I didnt like a lot of little stuff but then the rest was so awesome AND THE END AW! That I forgot yeah. <<

ANY WAY! Awesome ep over all lol, Cas made me laugh but I would have cut some bad jokes there, :P

    ReplyDelete
  44. OH YES! Since I'm a Casgirl the best line was : "Cas, we haven't seen you all season"
I think I died right there from laughing to much. I love when they do stuff like that (is it thursday again...)

Edit: oh and now that they killed crowley are they gonna stop the purgatory talks? Cause I wanna know why the hell he was looking for it. and what about mary PLEASE stay dead, i love you but stay dead. AND I LOVED what they made of grand pa creepy yesterday SO true, he doesnt care about sam and dean LOVED IT! haahhaah. but i dont believe dean would kill him, family and he is humain....

    ReplyDelete
  45. LOL Cas working for crowley ehhehe! He is an angel after all NO.

LOL that was fun reading hahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  46. OMG guys, what if Crowley got what he wanted???
He obviously got nothing from the alphas, and Cas found his bones "easily"...what if that was his plan all along? What happened to Crowley when he got killed? OH YEAH: He got sent to Purgatory! Maybe that was the plan all along?

    ReplyDelete
  47. OMG, I think you might be right... I mean they can't really kill crowley now he is to big in this season.. king of hell and all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This episode was awesome!!!

Can't pick, what I liked most, because the whole episode was great. One of the best scenes was Castiel watching porn - and his clinical comments about it. He should watch more Indiana Jones and less porn though. But hurray to the pizza boy (he taught our angel some moves)!

Anyway, it is a dark day when angels and demons agree on something and Dean should rethink his whole soul-getting-back-thing. The sentence "be careful what you wish for.." jumps to my mind. There may be nothing to salvage and RoboSam might look like a happy boyscout in comparison to what may come back.

And then there is Grandpa creepy. The moment he accused Dean of choosing Sam over his own mother he was soooo of my x-mas gift list. I didn´t like him much from the beginning, more less after he sold the boys out, but this....
I had more sympathy for burning Crowley left, than grandpa douchebag. It's a shame that the soul repellant spell doesn't include grandfather's blood.

I am a little sad, that Crowley is gone (if he is - you never know with SPN), he was such a wonderful villain. And Meg got away. Again. She is like a cockroach, you keep stomping on her and she keeps going. But what really "angers" (not really though) me is, the whole Winchester-Campbell-clan has zero learning curve. What's dead, should stay dead! You wanna think by now, they got the memo.

I cannot wait for the next episode and if I could make a christmas wish to Santa, I would wish the hiatus away!

    ReplyDelete
  49. ...Baby-man?

And well, the boys make any hangover feel better, surely ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Absolutely baby-man - soulless Sam's like a blank slate that needs to be taught right from wrong just like a little child. No concept of empathy or conscience but skilled and clinical hunter - so yeah - baby-man (it worked for me at the time) :P

    ReplyDelete
  51. I was gunning for it to be Deanna. She's the only member of the immediate family we haven't met and I want her mad pie-making skillz.

The only reason why I could think of Samuel wanting Mary back is because he was losing Mary before he died. Mary was going off with John and trying to escape the family business and we have no idea just how long yellow-eyes had been in Samuel when Dean went back in time and John initially died. He might want to make up for all of that. With Deanna, there was possibly some more closure and he knows that Deanna would always rule with her maternal instincts and tell him to bring back Mary instead of her.

Unless Deanna is alive somewhere in secret and no one knows about it and then all hell breaks loose again. o.O

    She also might've been cremated, which seems to be the deal for people not being brought back. John was burned on a pyre so his soul would have no body to return to while Dean was buried and he could return to his body. The boys had been shot and sent to heaven but then they were able to come back to their bodies. Then again, Mary was burned to a crisp as far as we know and that grave of hers in the cemetery is just there as a memorial versus really holding her remains. I just shot down my own argument, ignore me >.>;

But yeah, Samuel's still sketchy and Mary was convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ooooh.....yes. This. Yes, entirely true. -nodnod-

    ReplyDelete
  53. Agreed.

And when I said angry, it was the only thing I could think of. But him being able to get angry and to what extent has been a question for this season. I'm guessing all those times he looked all >:| could've been just driven, like when he walked away from Dean but other times looked either way. It's kinda confusing with a soulless moose walking around with great facial expressions.

And when Cas and Crowley mention that SoulofSam is stuck down in the pit, they always mentioned just Luce. Is Michael taking bathroom breaks while Lucifer is beating the snot or doing whatever to Sam's soul? Big brother angel is supposed to be holding up God's will so I don't really know if all this abuse on Sam's soul really happened to the extent that they're saying if Michael was down there. And since Michael is down there with Lucifer, I always thought they'd be beating the snot outta each other while SoulofSam is kinda cowering in the corner to get away from it all.

I might just be trying to salvage his soul via blind hope though. Most likely. Sam always gets the short end of the stick.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The Samuel thing has almost a creepy, incestuous undertone to it. He didn't want his daughter marrying John, and he puts her two sons (the other men in her life) in a position to be killed. He goes through such great lengths for the daughter but shows little interest in his grandsons.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Actually, Sam tends to walk away from Dean when they're telling/hinting each other not to go.

Sam grabbed his bag out the Impala and left Dean after Dean warned that he would leave him behind in 1.11 Scarecrow. Dean didn't want Sam to go but he wasn't listening.

They agreed to separate in 5.02 Good God Ya'll until the end of 5.04 The End but well, they were agreeing.

Sam walked out on Dean in 4.21 When the Levee Breaks after the ultimatum and Dean obviously didn't want him to leave. =/

And maybe Dean chased him down in the Impala for once? -hopes but knows it definitely does not happen-

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oooo Wilson you have a devious mind......I like it........
I would have thought after rescuing his bones from Sam and Dean, Crowley would have hidden them so well even Cas wouldn't be able to find them - surely the king of hell must have an angel-proof hidey hole?

This is good cause then it means Crowley's not really gone for good.......even though I hate him I love him ......he's such an evil dickbag.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Where's my Impala? I'm gonna run down evil, nasty, lying ,two faced Grandpa Creepy with her. Actually no I'm not......wouldn't want to risk scratching her paintwork......hand me my demon killing knife, I'm gonna stab him in the throat......
How DARE he mess with our boys?
I HATE you Grandpa Creepy >:(

    ReplyDelete
  58. I knew that Crowley didnt have Sams soul, actual the whole story line that Crowley brought Sam back never made sense to me. They are saying Crowley brought Sam back, without his soul for some reason, and then left him alone for over a year? Why would he do that? As much as I love Crowley that is just bad story telling, as if they wanted an excuse to bring Crowley into the mythology and that was the only thing they could think of. I do hope that they figure out a way to bring him back because no matter what I will miss him.

Gramps better watch his back, he has seriously pissed Dean off and that is never a good thing.

The whole Cas/Porn/Meg thing was priceless. I was hoping Cas would finally get some. The reactions of Sam and Dean while Cas and Meg were kissing was laugh out loud funny.

I dont think Sam was leaving Dean per se, I just think he didnt want to argue with him. Though up till now we assume he wanted his soul back and he knew he needed Dean to do that. Now he may feel he doesnt need Dean any longer.

As much as I'm enjoying this season so far, it really is another Sam heavy storyline and Dean is back to being just Sams protector and not really part of the mythology.

  59. Oh Rochey.......Rochey, Rochey, Rochey ......I couldn't have said it better
    Shorter, definitely.....but not better..... :P
I love your rants...er....comments.......today you've made me smile through my hangover (no I did not get drunk to drown the pain of Sam's soullessness and Dean's desperation - it just happened ok?)

I can't wait for next week either - Dean as Death......sounds sexy in a very unhealthy way. :P

  61. Yay! Crowley's gone. {He is really dead, right? Didn't Bobby say that, like ghosts, if you burn a demon's bones they were done for good?}

You know as much as I have not liked the Granddaddy character since they brought him back I felt like they ruined the character by making him actively bad rather than misguided. Actually, not that I think about it...I think I was disappointed that this 'other side fo the family' the 'hunters from way back' turned out to be kind of inept. I guess, when they were first mentioned I was hoping that they'd be impressive; something that would make Sam and Dean proud to be part of. And they never have been. Most of them were red shirts Samuel's character felt ruined (if I compare him to the character the first time we met him)

I loved the scene when Dean was giving Samuel the advice about making a deal with Crowley with regard to getting his daughter back. Yay, you actually learned your lesson Dean!

The Castiel/Porn scene as freaking hilarious!

I saw the trap coming a mile away (and that Samuel was behind it) but still liked the sequence. Had to think about the whole 'condition of Sam's soul' thing and at this point....I have to say the Sam's soul is missing story line is really working for me. I like where it's going...and I am oh so glad about hot things turned out with Crowley. Hopefully, it'll give them a chance to make Sam and Dean more proactive. I have really missed them making things happen more than just trying to keep their heads above water as they have been most of the season.

  62. With regard to Michael being in the cage with Lucifer....I can see Michael and Lucifer distracting each other - from ripping Sam's soul to shreds...but I'm not sure Michael would actively consider protecting Sam....I can even see Michael and Lucifer ganging up on Sam's soul. Michael's likely a little annoyed with Sam for preventing the big plan from playing out.

Just a random thought you fired Ceci

  63. I actually hope they *did* get rid of those two subplots. There's no rule that says every arc'd sub plot in a season has to run the entire season. Personally, from my impression of the comments just here, the Purgatory story wasn't the most successful. And, speaking totally for myself, I'm glad it ended the way it did. I didn't have a problem with Crowley per se...but he just wasn't working for me as more of a master villain. So, I was quite pleased to see those lines ended.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's not the point. The point is that Dean did the exact same thing that Samuel is trying to do, and this is why Dean was telling Samuel not to do it. Because Dean knew about the aftermath and hurt that his deal did to Sam and himself in the long run, Dean knows that Samuel needs to stop before he repeats Dean's mistakes.

  65. If Crowley wasn't lying about being "King of Hell", then it's likely he didn't have a boss. And the demon that Bobby tortured was pretty well convinced that Crowley was in charge (and supposedly the only reason Sam and Samuel are back on Earth is because Crowley was in charge and therefore had the power to do it).

Not a bad point about the alphas, but besides just making more monsters, which is what they've been doing for the past 5 seasons, they don't seem to have any additional plans yet. So it's more likely that running into the alphas will be a coincidence for the brothers at this point rather than them specifically hunting them down for some other purpose (like trying to find purgatory).

    ReplyDelete
  66. Of course there's no rule that every subplot has to run the entire season, but it's poor writing if the plot lines are just dropped without a conclusion. We still have no idea why Crowley thinks the alphas would know where purgatory is. We have no further information on the alphas' "mother" which was brought up and then promptly dropped in one episode. We have no idea why Crowley was looking for purgatory besides the very weak "development" excuse. And with those plot lines being dropped, we can no longer get any of those answers within the show without the plot lines somehow being picked back up again.

I don't dislike the way they ended it because I particularly liked Crowley or thought that those plot lines would run the entire season (in fact, I really hope Sam gets his soul back long before the end of the season), but rather because ending it the way they did as of right now is poor writing and goes to show that the writers didn't plan things as well as they have for the past 5 seasons, and that really disappoints me in regards to the show's future.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think you'll find answers in the coming weeks. From my point-of-view, nothing has been resolved or dropped. I expect all things to come together at the end in typical Supernatural-twist fashion. They have not had time yet to explore the answers because Crowley just died. Give it time.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I completely agree that Crowley is not the big bad this season. I doubted he was before, but now it's almost for certain. I had too many questions about how Crowley could have risen to such great power in such little time. I think someone else was his puppet master and they are going to be ticked when they have to come out of hiding. Plus, I don't for a minute believe that the Purgatory storyline is over. There has to be something special about it for the demons to want it and Supernatural rarely drops the ball on things like this. The second half of the season has to slowly bring the plot threads together. Can't wait to see how they do it!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Crowley did a good enough job to keep Cas from finding him that it does seem odd that he wouldn't use the same type of thing to hide the bones. It seemed like a convenient answer but maybe it is a piece of the puzzle like you think Wilson. I mean Ruby making Lilith think she was fighting against Lucifer just to get close enough to Sam to get him released worked. Demons tend to think in the long-term.

    I like this theory.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I agree with you about the plotting being a case of weak writing, but for slightly different reasons. I think the weakness isn't that they decided to drop (and this is just my impression) a story element that wasn't really working. I think the weakness is that the 'Crowley quest for purgatory' story had, fundamentally, no stakes for the main characters of the series. It put Sam and Dean in a passive position with their only play to deliver monsters to Crowley. When I first burbled about this someone tole me to be patient that they'd get Sam and Dean in a position to actively find a way to save Sam and, for me, proving Crowley was bluffing and getting rid of him does that. Question answered. Plot complete. Which is I guess where we disagree.

I agree with you that it doesn't feel like the season planning isn't as strong as it should have been. (My sneaking suspicion is that Sam's missing soul is one of the suggestions Eric Kripke shared with the new show runners.)

    ReplyDelete
  71. SuePo, you reminded me of another favorite moment/line....Sam saying when a demon and an angel agree on something he listens. :-)

Also, I'm sharing your theory about Sam's soul...that it's not still in the cage....but after Crowley said it last night I'm thinking it might be. But I'll cross my fingers really hared and hope that that is the case.

  72. My head starts spinning every time I read your posts. I love it!

  73. WTF moment: Sam biting his own wrist...
Really didn't see that coming: Crowley's death
Laugh out loud moment: "we're not supposed to talk about it" and "that was the plot from raiders"

Overall I thought it was a pretty great episode. I didn't think the naked torture scene was really necessary though...and it was a little too angsty for my liking, but it was still good. And they could have maybe dialed up the creep factor a little.
Oh, and was that opening scene awesome or what?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well... I really don't know you guys, but I think this episode was totally important. For many reasons. Crowley is dead. Sam don't want his soul back. Dean is all alone now. And Bobby, I miss him. But, anyways, Caged Heat tried to tell us how this season will be... I mean, the upcoming episodes. Sam is very disappointed about the fact of his soul is been torturing by Lucifer and Michael in Hell, and if his soul returns, complications will happen... Now Dean have work to do with his brother again, they broke up again, and God, this is not good. We know, Sam is impulsive. Dean is totally "feet on the ground". They always have his issues about their personalities and this will never stop. So... Here we go again. Dean will try with all his strenght to convince Sam.
But let me say something about this episode. In the end when Castiel tells Sam and Dean about the war upstairs, I began to think about this war. Could be a great idea to put the Winchesters brothers to fight the war with God and angels. Just saying. =)

  77. I thought this was an awesome episode. I acutally enjoy Meg's character. Glad to see her back. She always likes to get under the boys skin. Maybe she will be back later this year to stir up trouble. Crowley I enjoyed but he deserved what he got. I think he liked messing with Sam's head. I figured he probably did not have Sam's soul but that was a good way to get Sam and Dean to do what he wanted because he knows Sam is Dean's weakness and it was important for them to get Sam's soul back. Cas's scenes were funny I am one that was not that bothered by it. The laughs lightened the mood temporarily. Cas/Meg pretty hot. That could be an interesting theory but really not sure we should go down that path.

Sam and Cas talking about how Cas owes him was full of tension. Sam telling him he does not sleep and he will find a way to kill him if he did not help. The Cas calling Sam "boy". Wow blown away by that scene. Then Cas is telling Dean on how mutilated Sam's soul will be if they return it to him. I knew Sam was going to hear them talking. I felt bad because if I heard that about myself I surely would not want my soul back either. Both Crowley and Meg confirmed that Sam would be a mess and then he hears that too. I feel Sam has a right to be concerned he is not hearing anyone say anything positive about him having his soul back. All he hears is he will probably be insane, trapped in his own mind. As Dean said, "Soul = Suffering".

This episode and the next will be the turning point for Sam getting his soul back. My impression when he walked away from Dean at the end is just that he was walking away not running. Sort of like he needed to be by himself. It would be nice if Dean was able to help Sam have a little faith that even if things were that bad after his soul was back that Dean is going to be there and help him heal. That he will eventually be okay again even if it takes some time. I know Dean is going to fix this situation and it has taken longer than I wanted but I see some serious brotherly moments coming up soon. I am one who is waiting for the real reunion that Sam and Dean deserve.

  78. It could also be a counter-point: Crowley was too big for his britches and declared himself king of hell, and really wasn't He was just a leader of a faction and his death proved that he really was still just a punk-ass crossroads demon after all. Either way could work. :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm disappointed Crowley died. Excellent character. Wish he'd have lasted at least until the end of the season...

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yeah, surely Crowley would have hidden his bones in a better hidey-hole: he is pretty smart, after all. And for the putative King of Hell he would surely have been more sagacious. Then again, I said the same thing when Gabriel was killed off. Makes me speculate he wasn't the King of Hell. He is a demon, he lies. So who's the Demon Behind the Curtain?

I'd love Crowley to come back because I feel there's more to his search for purgatory but not sure if he actually will. He seemed more like a opportunist in many ways, rather than an Uberpowerful Demon.

    Ack, no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Although he did (well, maybe, he does lie) pull part of Sam out of Hell, so I guess he must be pretty powerful?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Awesome episode!!

Sooo glad Crowley is dead. I enjoyed the character, but he was getting annoying with the "king of hell" thing. And I knew he wasn't that powerfull after all, I'm really glad he wasn't able to free Sam's soul in the end. That would make no sense to me, so thumbs up. There still has to be another big guy to do it. Yay!! ;) But there's sth that bothers me - does the end of Crowley means the end of the Alpha storyline? what was Cas gonna do with the Alphas anyway? what will happen with the monsters now?

I loooove Cas, so I jump around everytime he appears in an episode. I couldn't believe he actually kissed Meg, but that was kind of sweet. And there actually was some sexual tension between them ;) I still love Cas and Dean together to pieces. When they talk, it's always like I feel how much they care for each other, but they never say it. I'm wondering when we'll get a sneak peek of what Cas has been doing - cause we have to find out eventually! This whole drama in heaven has to come down to earth in the end, right? well, nevermind, I adore Cas. LOL we can add the porn-watching Cas to the burger-loving & alcoholic one we already have ;)

Grandpa... well, I'm glad he's not all perfect, positive and loving. I actually wanted him to be the bad guy from the beginning (well, he isn't exactly a bad guy, but he did mess with our boys, which is unforgivable!). I'm wondering what Dean will eventually do to him (he obviously won't kill him, no way). It was great to hear Dean talk about his father and their family bond and that family has been their weakness all along. I was moved, it reminded me of John and hell, I much more prefered John to grandpa. At least he did love the boys. Bringing Mary back? totally bad idea. If she came back, what would she do? watch her sons (one soulless) hunt monsters? the last thing she wanted her kids to do was to become hunters. She would die all over again if she found out about everything her boys have been through. She would hate her father forever for this.

OMG, I cannot even think of Sammy's soul tortured down there for a year (120 years according to Dean, is that right?). i mean, Sam probably hasn't been ripped apart they way Dean was, but still it must be horrible to that sensitive sweet soul of his. Seriously, I've been thinking, all they keep talking about is that they have to get the soul back, cause Sam is not Sam. How about someone thinks of that the poor soul is suffering right the moment they talk about it?! there still is a piece of Sam somewhere - and that piece probably prays everyday to get out of there. Sam might suffer if he gets the soul back? so what? he suffers already, only noone can see it!!! why won't they think of it that way? it just kills me.

    ReplyDelete
  83. True. I wonder if we'll see her any more.. Or if Cas just basically nuked that building and all the poor monsters in it. ; 3;

    ReplyDelete
  84. I thought it was good but not as great as everyone else seems to think it was. I loved certain aspects of it but part seemed a bit repetitive or didn't make sense to me. I think killing Crowley off this early was a mistake but it also intrigues me as to where these story lines are going. I don't think we've heard the end of Purgatory yet and I'm positive that the Alphas are still going to feature. My guess is we will find the real big bad after the hiatus. That will be when they get Sam's soul back too.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Agreed. I felt it was just a way to feature torture porn. I think they went overboard in the episode with the sex = violence theme and this was the icing on the cake.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Did he? My guess is whoever Crowley was working for pulled Sam out. I think Crowley was lying about this too.

  87. brilliant idea!!!! truely brilliant

  88. agreed, god i hope dean kills grandpa creepy!!!

  89. I loved every minute of it! I am glad that Crowley is gone (you can never trust a demon) and I thought Dean was especially funny this time and Cas was, too! It was heartbreaking at the end for Sam since Crowley was their only clue and help in finding Sam's soul, but I was happy to hear that Dean had faith that they would find it somehow. He is not willing to give up and neither should Sam. The episode this week should be really good and I cannot wait for Friday to get here! I love the boys and this show! It will be great to see Bobby again, too, it has been way too long.

  90. Has Dean ever killed a human he has threatened? Bella? No. Roy and Walt? Not as far as we know. Gorden? Nope. Dean is all bark and no bite...at least when it comes to humans.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm torn. The signs do point to him not working solo, maybe the 'real' King of Hell. Still, I kind of want him to come back just because I love the character.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Maybe that's because they ended up dead anyway. As for Walt and Roy, Dean hasn't found them yet and he's been a bit busy to hunt them down, but Walt seemed more than a bit nervous to have Dean on his trail.... I'd love to see how that ends up. Gordon wasn't human, he was a vampire and Sam took him out, Bella got taken by the hellhounds because Dean chose not to help her. Yes, his hands are clean when it comes to killing humans (unless they were possessed by demons, then he had no qualms about killing the meat suits along with the demon), but since they seem to end up dead anyway, I wouldn't want to be on his bad side. Dean's not a murderer, but he will do what's necessary to protect his family. He said once, what he would do for Sam or his dad scared him. We'll see how Samuel ends up dead... it's inevitable.

  95. This episode is like the beginning of where the show is going and i tell you it's awesome . Loved each moment . Liked the fact Meg worked with the boys and Cas like her alot better than Ruby even though she can't be trusted she's still likable . Cas was so so funny watching porn .Liked Cowerly but glad that he's gone in a way , i mean he was interesting but then just got kind of boring cause we all knew what he wanted the only thing we dont know is why? .
