NBC - Scheduling Shake up including 30 Rock Renewal and The Cape Premiere date
15 Nov 2010
Cancelled Shows Community Law and Order SVU Parks and RecreationNBC's midseason schedule has a whole lotta shaking goin' on.
The lineup includes a three-hour Thursday comedy block, four new shows and a couple weaker freshman programs getting second chances in new time periods.
The biggest headline here is NBC once again attempting to re-invent the wheel at 10 p.m., scheduling comedies 30 Rock and Outsourced in an hour normally reserved for drama programs. New series Perfect Couples and the return of Parks & Recreation will fill out the block (see full schedule below).
Also, the network has renewed 30 Rock for another season; the show has averaged a 3.1 rating in the adult demo this fall, according to the most current ratings data.
Though Monday night's freshman procedural drama Chase has been super-soft in the ratings, NBC is going to give the show another chance in midseason in a new time period, Wednesdays at 9 p.m. beginning Jan. 12. Another show having Nielsen trouble to a lesser degree, Law & Order: Los Angeles, will be shifted to Tuesdays at 10 p.m., relieving Parenthood starting Feb. 8. David E. Kelley's latest legal drama, Harry's Law, will take over the 10 p.m. slot on Monday's launching Jan. 17th.
The network's new superhero series The Cape will get a two-hour launch on Sunday, Jan. 9, before moving to its regular time-period in the former Heroes slot on Mondays. The move puts The Event on a hiatus, which will last until March 7.
And Jerry Seinfeld's reality series The Marriage Ref is coming back, airing on Sundays this time at 8 p.m. starting March 6, serving as a lead-in for Celebrity Apprentice.
Here's the schedule, new series are capitalized. Chuck, Biggest Loser, Dateline and The Office -- NBC's most stable shows -- are practically the only programs not being moved or having to share time periods.

"The move puts The Event on a hiatus, which will last until March 7."
ReplyDeleteAccording to Ausiello it's February 28
Also maybe should add The Event to the tags ;)
When will Friends with Benefits premiere and what day will it be on?
ReplyDeleteI am so glad with this, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, The Cape, this whole schedule is just awesomesauce.
ReplyDeleteGreat news for 30 Rock, and I'm sure it'll come to Parks and Rec soon, hopefully :)
Now I gotta wait even LONGER for 30 Rock? Oh, geez! Why put a new show behind the lowest-rated comedy? :D Well, anyway at least I don't have to choose between it and TVD anymore.
ReplyDeleteHarry's Law is an odd choice. But quite the good shake up I guess.
NBC wants Parks and Recreation to succeed, and that's a great news.
ReplyDeleteI hope Community won't suffer too much all alone at 8, having a new show (which seems dull and completely notright for NBC's comedy lineup) after it instead of 30 Rock.
Okay, that probably doesn't change much the ratings of Community but it sure won't improve them from january to may. I hope the show remains stable and I hope NBC will back this show up like they did last season.
I'm so glad 30 Rock is renewed, I love this show and so far, season 5 is their best season.
I am ecstatic that NBC gave the post Office slot to P&R, rather than Perfect Couples as had been rumored. Parks is the best comedy on TV right now, and putting it after The Office gives it great exposure. I imagine it would have good retention of The Office's viewers, since it is the same docucomedy style.
ReplyDeleteMy guess (my hope) is that The Cape will have better ratings than The Event and that this monday schedule will last for the entire season. NBC can move The Event at another slot or delay its reappearence till summer, i don't care.
ReplyDeleteNBC has just killed The Event; even they say they will promote it and let the writers give it new strentgh, we all know the ratings will continue to drop after the 3 months hiatus. You can have such a long break for a procedurial but not for a serialized show like The Event.
ReplyDeleteThe writers are already writing things so that the fans will have closure.
I agree witht that. The crazy news Is the event was the best out of the Monday shows by NBC.Sorry
ReplyDeleteChuck fans but that Is the truth.NBC Is lucky Summer glau Is In The Cape or I wouldn't be watching anything on their network.serialzed shows with months In between episodes always suffer.I guess the networks are
determined to axe shows I watch.
The Cape is going to be an awesome show for Summer. We wish her and the entire cast the best while filming the upcoming episodes. Its going to be fun to watch for all ages from kids to adult. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. With the exception of cable dramas, putting a serialized drama (especially a genre show) on a hiatus so early on in the program's existence is unquestionably the kiss of death.
ReplyDeleteThis was my comment exactly. A show struggles a little, so they derail it for a couple months. Then it dies.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a sad analogy because FlashForward struggled A LOT and came back strong, whereas the Event isn't even struggling that much.
This is definitely the best move for Parks and Rec. It really has so much in common with The Office: 1st season: great potential, but they're not really sure how to handle the characters - 2nd season: they figure it out and it's AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteHopefully following The Office will remind people of that and hook them. I'm pumped; great show.
The only thing I'm pissed about is keeping Community as the starter. GREAT(!!!) show, yet I'm sadly almost sure it's going to die simply because it has absolutely no lead-in.
30 Rock will fare just fine in the 10pm slot. Maybe they'll even get a little racier, which would be welcome to a show that sticks a little to closely to the "same-old" for my preferences.
Yep, I have to agree with you. We all saw what happen with FlashForward
