Criminal Minds - Latest from E!Online

Thanks to Sandy for the heads up.

Woo-hoo! Criminal Minds season six is going to have more of the backstory and character development us die-hards drool over. Star Thomas Gibson tells us, "I think that one of the things that [show runner] Ed [Bernero] wants to explore this year is the theme of secrets. Everybody has a secret, and I'm curious to see what they are. The secrets that I've heard through the grapevine sound like an interesting mix—especially how they play off of each other."

Will any of those intersecting secrets include the reveal of a smouldering romance between Prentiss (Paget Brewster) and Hotch?

Gibson says, "I can't tell you, but there are things we don't want an audience to say, 'Oh, that doesn't make sense.' There are things we want them to understand and say, 'Oh my gosh, I should have seen that coming,' but they didn't see it coming." So let's all keep our eyes peeled for little Hotch-Prentiss developments that might build up to that big reveal. (Who knows, maybe wishing could make it so?)

Also coming up for Hotch this year is some closure on the murder of his ex-wife Haley (Meredith Monroe). Gibson tells us, "We will explore how denial or his delay of the grieving process might manifest itself. You can't not go through the process in some way."

We might even get a little squishy Hotch this season. But just a little. Says Gibson, "There are moments where there's a chink in the armor. Certainly you see it in the relationship with Jack, his son. We'll spend some more time with Jack this year as well."

As for Hotch's other family, his coworkers at the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, they'll be tighter than ever this season, when one of their own needs help. We asked about rumors that Reid's (Matthew Gray Gubler) genetic heritage of schizophrenia might become manifest this season, and Gibson told us, "There's some interesting stuff that's going to come up regarding that—it's definitely part of what we deal with this year as characters. One of the themes that Ed [Bernero] has written over the years is the idea of this group as a family. It's what we connect with, and hopefully what an audience connects with—the fact that they are there for each other and that they are all very, very connected. They don't finish each other's sentences for no reason. It's going to be an issue like it would come up in any family and how a family would deal with it."

Get well soon, Reid. You're our favorite boy supergenius. And bring on the squish, Hotch. We love you stalwart, but even you have to feel your feelings sometime.

OK, fans. You said you wanted your T.Gibs, so prove it wasn't just talk. You've got to click on this story a lot, Facebook-like it, tweet it and comment as much as possible, or our bosses will try to tell us there's no market for Criminal Minds coverage! Prove 'em wrong, OK? (Oh, and don't forget to watch Criminal Minds every Wednesday at 9 p.m. on good ol' CBS.)

  1. Sounds really interesting. Though I am not one who really cares if Prentiss and Hotch get together.

  2. Don't pay any attention to that romance stuff. People have already figured out that she just reused quotes from other interviews that Thomas Gibson gave that had nothing to do with any kind of romance. That was just her adding in her own wishes. There have been no spoilers and TG certainly hasn't teased anything on it. All that is some person putting in what they want to see, not what they've been told might happen.

  3. it makes a lot of scense put hotch and emily together. he is alone, she is alone. both need some love in their lives. everyone sees how emily looks at him, she was the first one with him in the hospital and she stayed there until he woke up. she gave him rides to work and home after he got out of the hospital. their relationship isn't just a friend relationship, nor a family relationship. they have hiden love for each other.

  4. I will be sad if they built up a storyline between Hotch and Prentiss because Paget is leaving at the end of the season :(

  6. Really? I know they cut her episodes but she's actually leaving?

  7. So, THAT'S how they're going to write Prentiss out. She's going to transfer off the team and out of the show, so she and Hotch can be in a relationship that doesn't cross ethical and professional boundaries of a boss sleeping with one of his team.

No, that's not a spoiler, but it's the only way a relationship with them would make sense. Because there's a little thing that people seem to ignore when it comes to shipping people on this show - especially the fandom ships involving Hotch. It's called being in character. It's not in character for Hotch to get involved with a subordinate. It's not in character for Prentiss, who understands just how important the job is to Hotch to get involved with him like that. If she loves him, she'd care for him too much. Not to mention her own professionalism.

  8. Ed himself said there would never be romance on the show between the characters. Though I HATE it, I doubt they'll ever have those two hook up. I'd simply die if they ever had Hotch hook up with Prentiss, those two are so perfect. Like someone Dani said, it wouldn't be in character for Hotch to start messing with somebody who he is a boss of. If Paige does leave, the only way I'll be even remotely okay with is some how she tells Hotch she's preggers with their love child and she's going to quit to raise their child and Jack.

  9. i would be happy with just a kiss. a full mouth, passionate, breathtaking kiss. though loving the idea, i don´t expect any pregnancy. i just don't see any oportunity for them to have sex with each other. unless they get stuck, alone, in a very cold place and need the sex to warm up. since that won't happen, the kiss would be enough.

  10. Nah to Hotch and Prentiss for me - there's no chemistry and he NEVER would be so unprofessional, neither would Prentiss.

  11. CM definitely need more coverage, This show is AWESOME :D I'm excited to find out what everyone secret is and I wanna see more Rossi as well! Can't believe it's Paget's last season.............. I can actually see Hotch and Emily get together I mean it makes sense for me and i'm sure if they go that way it'll be very subtle ;-) as someone pointed out this show is not House, or grey's anatomy ;)
