I was not very impressed with Our Darkest Hour, but this episode was possibly the best one after 100. Leonard Cohen fit the mood perfectly and Tim Curry was brilliant. Especially his speech at the end was incredibly moving and I like the fact that Criminal Minds is acknowliding that most offenders have been victimised themselves, which society often likes to forget! I liked that Morgan said to Hotch" we were there for you, this is my one" but I think Hotch should have never let him walk in as he was personally involved. Mabe this shows though that Hotch is not quite back and secure in his role as as Unit chief yet, after what happened. I can't believe that we are going to loose JJ. This episode showed how integral she is to the team and I so hope that maybe we will still get her back. Thank you so much everyone for this fantastic episode!
It's almost 3 in the morning and eloquence escapes me at the moment, but really there isn't much more that needs to be said other than this.episode.was.epic. FANTASTICALLY brought to life by AJ Cook who, and I have yet to see anyone disagree with this statement, positively owned this episode. This was also some of the best acting I have ever seen from Shemar, he's grown so much in this role. Tim Curry was, of course, brilliant and shattered and scary and genius. And that little girl? I mean...just everyone did so very well in this. I'd give them all awards if I could.
Like many others, I too was hugely disappointed with the finale last season. This episode redeemed it and then some. Without a doubt, one of my favorite episodes of the series. And considering that Paget/Prentiss is the main draw for me, and she was barely in this episode, I think that's saying a whole hell of a lot.

Absolutely agree & thought the same thing as I was watching him last night. AJ was awesome, still don't understand the reason to get rid of her but since I hadn't read spoilers on how she's leaving (I thought they were going to kill her off) it appears JJ is leaving on her own afterall; that always leaves it open to bring her back.
Oh & yes, the little girl is an incredible little actress!
If I was being precise, I'd say it was good. Definitely better than okay, but not sure I'd put it at great. Morgan's behavior wasn't right, but I found it to be perfectly believable, considering what had happened and his worry for Ellie. And he was big enough to apologize to Garcia.
JJ rocked! (CBS sucks) Coming up with the idea of how to contact Billy Flynn, plowing through all the various levels of bureaucracy and transferred phone calls until she got the freaking Secretary of (what? Defense? State?) to authorize her request, and then getting Billy with the double whammy of compassion and then hard truth. "What happened to you was terrible and I feel so bad for the boy you were. But, I don't feel bad for the monster you are. Now, suck it up and do the right thing."
Didn't like the flash backs (get the purpose, just didn't care for the execution) and Billy getting sad puppy like didn't come across well. But, I watch this show for the team. And the team -even though not everyone was in the spotlight- was great.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Amazing episode! Great start to the season. JJ was fantastic. Morgan was a bit of an arse but he made it up in the end.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode made amazing by a great performance by AJ Cook. She stole the episode. Why CBS decided to fire her is completely baffling to me.

Thanks Ashley, nice little summary there.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to watching it myself now.
