Day 12: So after the huge numbers who voted for Fringe the day before, yesterday was a majorly quiet day for the shows involved, perhaps a foreshadowing that all the shows may not have the support to go all the way. One thing is for certain, this is the first day no poll has no broken the 1000 vote mark. Perhaps the absence of critically acclaimed The Sopranos and Breaking Bad, both beaten by shows today has a negative reaction from other fans, but both Smallville and Stargate waivered, and Smallville grinded through to make Round 3, along with Dexter, a show that found it a lot easier today than against Bones, but with a significant drop in votes.
Today we also have a few shows that unexpectedly found their way into the next round. Firstly we have The Vampire Diaries, which surprisingly saw off 20 seasons + animated comedy The Simpsons fairly comfortably, and so on paper should be expected to see off one of the few goldie oldie shows left in the draw, that being The Twilight Zone. Also, in the most surprising second round matchup, we have Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip vs. Flashforward. On paper, I had True Blood vs. Friends in this matchup, and both being eliminated at the first hurdle was a major surprise, so today, I have no idea which way this would sway, as the critically and commercially panned Flashforward continues to surprise. Some would claim it does not deserve a place in the competition at all, and so for it to make round 3 would be majorly controversial, but Studio 60, despite having more love critically also struggled to find an audience. Let the battles commence, It's gonna be close.

What? How that hell can Vampire Diaries be beating The Twilight Zone? I think some people are confusing the "Zone" with "Twilight"!
ReplyDeletePEOPLE GET A GRIP!!!! The Twilight Zone is one of the best and one of the longest running shows ever!!! many of the movies and television show that are out now are based on these episodes. My God this is a travesty! This proves the reason why shows like Flash Forward and Persons Unknown never stood a chance in the new age of television.
Friggin Teeny Boppers!
Vampires are overhyped! Twilight Zone is a classic!
ReplyDeleteThe Twilight Zone!
ReplyDeleteThe current results of this poll disturbs me :(
ReplyDeleteThe Twilight Zone was a brilliantly written show, with many classic episodes.
Vampire Diaries is not the worst show on tv atm but come on, Twilight Zone is classic!!
ReplyDeleteI watch both shows (initally started because of Somerhalder, and don't see a point in stopping now) and think TVD is not good at all, clearly Twilight Zone is the better show. But I guarantee it's safe to say at least half of those voters, or more actually, haven't seen The Twilight Zone and have a restricted taste in television. Or are females who enjoy the shirtless leads. Thus, their votes are meaningless. Newer popular shows will always beat classics on these polls, so I'm not suprised.
ReplyDeletethere are only a few things i hate more than what you are doing right now.
ReplyDeleteyou are saying that the average viewer is ignorant, andy your proof of that is that two incredibly stupid shows, like FF, and PU have bad ratings.
if you would be so smart, you would see that both shows are TRYING to look deep, and high brow, but fail miserably.
With a result like this are you really doubting that some people are stupud?
ReplyDeleteIn a few years no one will remember Vampire Diaries, it'll get lost with all these vampire-related media.
No I'm saying, that it is a travesty that classic shows that begot the genre type mystery twist type shows that are deeper, and take a little more thought than who's screwing who, and who's the prettiest vampire, are being shat upon because the vast majority of TV viewers in this world wouldn't know a great TV show if it hit them dead square in the face. It is fine if you personally don't like that kind of television, your are but one person, I just cannot get my head around the idea that a "teenage targeted vampire show" is winning a poll for best show ever against a show like "The Twilight Zone" which is arguably one of the best written and most thought provoking shows ever created.
ReplyDeleteAnd I see what you are saying about FF and PU, but to be honest, your argument only proves my point that because the idiots that make up the majority of the viewing public have no idea what to think of a show if it doesn't outright tell them what to think in the 22,or 42 minutes it's on the air per week.
God forbid a show actually make you think after it goes off, God forbid a show begs you to reexamine your ideas, God forbid a show try to give you something to take with you after it the last credit rolls.
Lost is the perfect example of what I'm screaming from the rooftops here, I only used FF and PU because those are two shows that had potential and could've been great if it was for the "Television viewing public" being unable to sit for a moment and enjoy a multi level narrative that makes you rethink what you originally thought about the show. Lost was a casualty to the problem I am ranting about. It was because of the mindset of the ever so "Bright" viewing public, that Lost's producers went the "La La Land, Lets not try to hard this final season because these fools don't know a love triangle from a Four toed statue" route.
We the viewing public are the ones that determine what shows stay and what shows go, by our commitment to the shows. If we loose interest due to being unwilling to follow a more complicated idea, then the network starts the process of pulling the plug, which in turn takes a toll on the writers and producers of the show, which ultimately leads to sloppy writing a unfulfilled character resolution, or an out and out total abortion of the show prematurely.
But back to my original rant, please tell me how the hell, can a show like "The Vampire Diaries" be beating a show like "The Twilight Zone" in a poll asking out of those two which is the all time better show.
Answer: it is not the show's fault, it's the viewers fault.
