**NOTE- there are season 9 spoilers in here. If you haven't watched it, you will be spoiled.**
1) Lex Luthor- Like it or not, he just has to come back. seasons 1-7 showed him descending to evil so well, he just has to come back before it's over. As Clark takes his final steps to become Superman in season 10, his arch nemesis must make an appearence. I do hope they'll do they're best to bring Michael Rosenbaum back. I'm not saying that he should be in every or most episodes (That would be awesome, though), even 2 or 3 is fine. Hell, he doesn't need to be bald either, just bring him back. He's a great actor, and it's a shame he left like that. Hope we'll see that happen.
2) Chloe dying- Yes, you're reading it right. I love Chloe as much as the next fan, but she's become quite expendable. She shut down in her own little world in Watchtower, and even after she shut it down in Sacrifice, she just turned it back on again in Hostage (To my great dissapointment, after the hype the producers made in interviews for the climax of that storyline in Sacrifice), with Clark encouraging her to do so, no less. I think her death would give Clark a great mental push into becoming a hero. It would be interesting to see how it will affect Oliver as well. And she's not in the comics, so it's not like they're ruining any mtyh. I loved Chloe throughout the show, but the time has come to say goodbye.
3) If you bring someone back, do it right- the show had great characters in the beginning, who later departed and came back for guest appearnce in later seasons. Unfortunatley, it didn't work most of the time. take Pete, for example. I loved him in season 1-3, but Hero was just a slap in the face to his character- Going Mr. Fantastic with Krypto-gum? Really?
Lana, too. She was okay in the beginning, in seasons 6 and 7 she was tolerable, but in season 8 it was just ridiculous. Coming back with a super-suit? We already saw what she's like with powers in Wrath, and we also know that she and Clark won't be together. You don't need to force us to understand that with some weird story.
On the other hand, Martha and Perry were a good blast from the past. Martha could've been great, if the CW wouldn't have made it pretty obvious that she's the Red Queen in the promos...
4) Glasses- The first time we saw CK with glasses was in Whisper, though they were more dorky glasses than the ones he wears later. The next 2 times were in alternate realities- Jimmy's (Sorry, Henry's) Black and White dream in Noir, and a Clark-less world in Apocalypse. He looked good in them, and it was great seeing him finally putting them on for real in Idol. I hope they'll stop with those little teases and have him put them on more often, espically now that he's using his double identity more than ever.
5) Tights and Flight- imagine this as the final scene in the show: An emergency is being reported. Clark walks towards the screen and rips his shirt, revealing a colorful S on his chest. He super-changes in a phone booth, and the last shot is him flying towards the camera, a-la Bizzaro in Phantom. Now THAT's an ending I want to see. We've had many suit references (Cape in Action, suit glimpse in Salvation, Ollie and his jokes about color etc.), So I want to see it pop up even before the finale. The flying wasn't mentiond much (except that "lesson" Kara wanted to give him), so what's another 21 episodes to wait for it.
6) Zod- Yeah, I want him back, for several reasons. One, he's one of Superman's most famous foes, and half a season just doesn't seem enough. Two, Callum Blue is an amazing actor. There were a couple of episodes he literraly saved from being a complete bore (Escape, anyone?). Three, most seasons had one main villain. it would be interesting to see 2 powerful guys like Zod and Darkseid (which is hinted to be next season's big baddy) team up against CK. A Zod and Lex team-up would be even more bad-ass, because they'll prabobly have interior tension too.
There are more things I want to see, but these are the main ones. You're welcome to leave a comment with your opinions. Here's to a great last season.
Up, up and away!

Totally agree about Lex and ZOD!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see some more Smallville coverage here.
Thanks Matan
Great stuff, I think I agree with all your points except Chloe dying lol
ReplyDeleteAgree about Lex, about Chloe. But if we're saying about tights, I want more modernized costume. Zod. Not bad. But how can he return? And plus I want to see more Lois and Clark together, of course. I want know more about Lois Lane. She is the Clark's destiny, and I want to see her more in the next season. And I don't want to see Lana in 10 season.
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt!! Great work!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have the right idea about the show's final installment!
No need to kill Chloe!! She is awesome in her own way...
ReplyDeleteKill Chloe mid season. My idea for an ending would be bring back Lex after revenge but last episode, they have a big fight something basically makes Lex loose all memories of Clark, so if Smallville/Superman went into movies, its a fresh start for those two. Clark needs his ice breathe as well, still not done that yet, Also an episode of him flying but screwing it up 2 start with so crashing into things etc. No more Lana, that just went on too long. Dont think smallville has the budget to do a few episodes of him flying and saving the day but would be good and it could end with him getting the name Superman and flying off sorta thing.
ReplyDeletePlease if Chloe died Clark would angst about it for an episode then it would be Chloe who? Smallville doesn't do emotional continuity and lessons learned are very soon forgotten.
ReplyDeleteChloe/AM have been on the show for 9 years I think both she and her fans deserve something better than Chloe becoming Clark's Uncle Ben.
I absolutely hate the 'if it's not in the comics it doesn't matter!!!' stance some fans have.
Give Chloe a happy ending, someone can deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI completly agree about Lex and Zod!
ReplyDeleteThanks, great work!
Totally agree with almost everything, though I'm not so sure about Chloe's death. I think the character has become ridiculous in the last years, but I like her a lot and I don't want to see her death.
ReplyDeleteI think that the ending you just mentioned would be the best way to end the show. I have another idea anyway, just end it like the comic book begins... Clark saves Metropolis from something big in from of a lot of people, Lois sees it an writes the story about this "Superman" giving him the name, then he decides that he needs a suit a puts it together with Martha's help. That could take as long as 20 minutes in the final episode or as long as half a season, could be the first time he flies or he could fly all season (but make him fly already dammit!)... buf if the series ends like this or similar I will be really really happy.
I like the idea of him flying but having it at the end if theres not gonna be another Superman series type show, then have him fly at the start of the series, give us a series of him using flight to save people etc instead of ending it on flying. I personally think as Superman returns was ruined, and they are talking of a reboot of Superman, end it Smallville with him flying off sorta thing, then have Tom Welling take the role of Superman for the reboot, use the same cast as well cuz they are brilliant, then the whole Justice League movies they wanna do, use the cast from Smallville for that as well. It would make a serious amount of money having Tom do the movies cuz ull get new fans who might wanna know the whole back story, Smallville dvds etc, more money 4 the studios etc.
ReplyDeleteIf you've been following spoilers then you would know that Allison Mack will be in the first few episodes of the season where we will see Chloe's story wrapped up. She's already confirmed she's leaving. As for LEX, Michael Rosenbaum has a new show and has already stated that he will not be back on Smallville next season. Whether they can get him to appear in an episode at some point is a different matter but dont expect him to be next seasons big bad unless they replace the actor. I seriously doubt we'll be seeing him on the show.
ReplyDeleteTom Welling needs to stop being such a bitch, put on the tights and cape, wear the glasses, fly. Basically be all the things synonomus with the character we all know from the comic. They need to take the show to the next level, it needs to be SUPERMAN not Smallville. Clarks a grown up now, no more teen angst.
I'd like to see Darkseid and Lex back maybe a guest appearance from ZOD for an epi or 2.
ReplyDeleteThe start of the finale showed that Lex was back in action in a major way. I want to see more Lois & Clark stuff both romance and journalism (working as a team on stories). Think we will get a epi about clark learning how to fly should be interesting sense he is scared of heights
NO MORE ZOD!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNot General Zod... Not Major Zod... Not Private Zod...
The actor that played Zod should be ashamed of himself... Such wierd facial expressions... shesh... No more Zod!
I agree with most everything you said and would like to add an appearance by Bruce Wayne and/or Diana Prince
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Kara back, reasons like she was good looking and that she would teach CK how to fly.
