Here in the UK Betting Companies have suddenly dropped the odds ont he actor leaving from 6/1 to 9/2. That's quite a drop in terms of odds, the bookies don't normally get things wrong.
David Morrissey, who appeared in the 2008 Who Christmas special, is favourite to replace him at 4/1.
Do you think Matt will leave? If so who would you like to replace him?

Matt Smith signed a five-year contract several months ago. Somehow I don't see him leaving any time soon.
ReplyDeleteWell contracts for TV in the uk are easily broken, not sure if it's the same in the USA. Bookies rarely drop odds like this unless they have some insider knowledge or have seen an increase in betting patterns.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to Doctor Who it seems the speculation never ends. Will the actor leave? Who will replace him? Which z-list celebrity is the next companion? This regular speculation usually comes to nothing (as it's fuelled by the British tabloid press) and it's best to wait for an official announcement.
ReplyDeleteI was under the impression the reason behind the drastic change in the odds was the recent drop in ratings when the show was up against the World Cup rather than insider information. I could of course be entirely wrong.
ReplyDeleteI guess no one cares about the U.S. ratings since the full season (series, whatever) hasn't aired completely in the U.S. yet. I hope Smith is around for a while, change the companions all you like.
ReplyDeleteThe US doesn't seem to care about international ratings either. I don't think it ever has. In Australia we're on the second to last episode.
ReplyDeleteI hope doesn't leave!
ReplyDeleteHe was amazing this season! Heck, I am starting to like him more then I liked David Tennant
I hope he doesn't leave. I've really liked him this season and think he's got good chemistry with Karen Gillan.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I actually feel the same xD

ReplyDeletedito, but it think its possible that river song would be the next doctor...
ReplyDeleteWhere the hell did this come from!? He's only done one season. Besides he's said he wants to hold onto the role for a while (as you would), and in the latest confidential the talk about returning to filming soon. This month is when they usually start shooting. So he will do at least this season. I hope he stays at least 3 seasons. He's my favourite Dr yet, I genuinely think he's the best (since the reboot in 2005 at least).
ReplyDeletehe isnt my favortive doctor, but i like him and hope he does stay.
ReplyDeleteHope he doesn't leave, bow-ties are cool.
ReplyDeletedavid morissey!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate River Song...
ReplyDeleteYou say that, but Eccleston only did one series as he didn't want to become "type-cast". Personally I hope Smith stays for at least another two series; although I'd quite like to get some closure on Doctor Who, purhaps Smith is a good place to end it. I agree 100% he's deifnetly one of the best Doctors, why not go out on a high? :D
ReplyDeleteBTW, I loved DM as the other Doctor and hoped he'd follow DT, but Matt Smith is doing a great job.
ReplyDeletePLEASE CHANGE AMY!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love him as the Doctor! Don't want him to leave!
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to see David Tennant leave, and so bugged they went so young with Matt Smith, that I had to stop watching. When rumours were flying about David's leaving, my favourite candidate was Chiwetel Ejiofor. He would be sensational! It'd be fantastic to see someone other than a purebred white man play the doctor. I can understand not changing the doctor's sex, but why would his race be so fixed? I can't imagine that Gallifreyans (sorry about the spelling if I've got it wrong) would follow the same biological patterns as we Earthlings do.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hope Matt Smith's a blip, and that someone with a bit more interest and experience takes charge ;D
River song died a season or two back I think. She and the Doctor are meeting in the wrong order, and the Doctor's first encounter with River was her last.
ReplyDeleteAre you serous? Matt Smith is amazing as the doctor! He is probably a better choice then David Tennant was.
ReplyDeleteEccleston recently admitted the reason he left was because of poor working conditions, it was the BBC that made up the "type case" comment.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it have been best to actually watch the new Doctor before dismissing him? I mean, lots of people felt that way when Ecclestone was replaced by Tennant, too, but the BBC presumably select the new doctor quite carefully... so sure, it's fine if you don't like Smith, but at least give him a chance.
ReplyDeleteDavid Tennant willl always be my favorite, but I loved Chris Eccleston as well. Matt Smith is growing on me, and I hope he stays to give the show some continuity. I also hope they up the production values to make it as good as the previous 5 years. This new season is a throwback to the "wobbly set" cartoonish look. (although it did work with Vincent Van Gogh). Speaking of which.. Has anyone seen the 2nd Doctor, Patrick Troughton, and the 3rd Doctor, Jon Pertwee? They were great... (again, the "wobbly sets" is why they are not rated as high as David Tennant. (though Tom Baker fans weren't put off by the writing and technology of the day.)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the BBC is funded in such a unique and archaic way that only the British viewing figures count for them :(
ReplyDeleteWont be morrisey that would clash with the story. I would like to see Matt for another season he is good. I think the doctor and Rory will merge, Rory is plastic after all. He will kill again regardless, melt him now and save the future.
ReplyDeleteRory is no longer plastic and back to being human at the end of the latest episode.
ReplyDeleteNot desperate to see the back of him, but wouldn't shed any tears either. Replacement options? Richard E Grant or Simon Pegg, please!
