Today there are 4 battles going on, 2 of which are here, the others which are here:
Arrested Development vs. The Shield
Arrested Development:
Format: Sitcom

Arrested Development is really, really, really, really...... good.
The Shield

It plays out in a tough, morally ambiguous world in which the line between good and bad is crossed every day. The series focuses on the tension between a group of corrupt but effective cops and a captain torn between bringing them down and advancing his own political ambitions.

Voted for The Shield and The Office
ReplyDeleteVoted for exactly the opposite.
ReplyDeleteVoted for the Shield & The Office, though I am pretty sure I filled my brackets in exactely opposite to my choices :)
ReplyDeleteNow, you gotta admit, Oz is _amazing_. I haven't seen The Shield, but I can bet a lot that Oz is better. In my opinion, that is. : )
ReplyDeleteVoted for Arrested Development and OZ.
ReplyDeleteArrested Development vs The Shield. I know lots of people like The Shield, but I tried watching the first episode, and it just felt like a cop show that tries to "shock" the audience... and the effect was a bit over the top.
On the other hand, Arrested Development also has elements that are "shocking," but for comedic effect, and it all works very well. I didn't think I would like the show, but the characters are all so well developed, with lots of running jokes and creative new stories throughout the story. AD had an amazing cast, and did a great job of spoofing pop culture's obsession with the vain rich. The first time I saw David Cross in his Blue Man Group gear... I nearly choked on my soda from laughing so hard. Comedy gold.
The Office (USA) vs OZ. I watched the entire first season of the remake, but it never really caught on for me. I suppose they get points for not doing a complete remake, changing several characters, but it just never felt to me like I could forget how much I loved the original series. Ricky Gervais FTW.
OZ... the later seasons were weak, admittedly. But when OZ was "on," it was really, really good. The series has perhaps not aged that well, but for the time that it started, OZ was daring and groundbreaking with a really powerful cast. And LOST fans have a lot to love in OZ... see Mr. Eko, Michael Dawson, Matthew Abaddon, Miles Straume, Edmund Burke and even Seamus from S6 in completely different roles. Adebisi, in particular... is one of the coolest TV bad guys ever.
Arrested Development deserves to go the furthest of any comedy. Dramas will rule the end of this, but AD is, in my opinion, the best comedy ever written.
ReplyDeleteVoted The Office against Oz, but I've never seen Oz so I can't really make a case for that, can I? Haha.
voted The Shield and OZ - though i did eventually bail on all 4 of those shows (The Shield in season 4 , everything else season 1)
ReplyDeleteNot telling you to watch it, but one episode of The Shield doesn't tell you what the show is about. The fact that the killing in the first episode has effects that linger through all seven seasons is telling of its consistency. It is more about social politics, institutions and the balance between necessity and morality. There is also no Hollywood in the show; it's completely realistic, which is something I can't even say about The Wire.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the pilot episode of the show has to hook me into to watching the rest. Oz didn't do that for me. I watched the pilot and it was so boring. I think most of the people just watch it to see Mr. Eko's dick (aside from so many others).
ReplyDeleteVoted for The Shield and Oz. Surprised that Arrested development leads. I thought The Shield would get more votes. Very interesting. :D
ReplyDeleteshield and oz - how anyone could even try to compare two works of pure storytelling art with one series that didn't even get to conclude it's second season properly (AD), and a fairly average remake of an average show (the office)?
ReplyDeletelittle comedies like arrested development (which i love btw) and the office don't even deserve to be in the same league as the likes of oz and the shield.
to see that both are currently being beaten by them?! i was under the impression that the majority of this site's members/posters could recognise a great when they've seen one.
what next? family guy voted better than the wire? american dad better than band of brothers?
jesus man...
I like the Shield over ARrested Development. The plot in the shield is good. Voted for the office over Oz because haven't really watched OZ while I had some moments watching The Office where I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteYou gonna cry little guy.
ReplyDeleteyes mate. i'm bawling my eyes out right now.
ReplyDeletei forgot this was a children's forum...
Oz is absolutely fantastic. One of my favourite series ever by far, and I voted for it, but in my bracket I put the Office would win.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I hate these types of things... When making the bracket I am always torn between what I think/know is better, and what I think/know will win.
I dunno, man, Family Guy is pretty good..... ;)
ReplyDeleteHa :)
