It was revealed at the end of Saturday's Doctor Who episode that this year's Christmas Special will be called Voyage of the Damned and that companion Martha Jones (played by Freema Agyeman) will NOT appear.
Martha left at the end of Episode 13, HOWEVER, she will be returning for the second half of Series 4 and will feature in 3 episodes of spin-off series Torchwood, The Doctor will be joined by a new companion for the duration of Series 4. Below is an official Press Release
Relax - she's coming back, and branching out too...
While the final episode of Series Three, screened last Saturday , saw The Doctor's companion Martha leave to care for her devastated family, and to break the cycle of unrequited love she feels for The Doctor, the production team has now confirmed that the character is set to make a triumphant return in the fourth series.
Freema Agyeman is also set to join the cast of Torchwood, where she will continue to play the character in three new episodes before returning to Doctor Who in the middle of the fourth series.
As Doctor Who's Executive Producer and head writer, Russell T Davies notes: "Series three has gained outstanding reviews and Freema has been a huge part of that success, gaining rave notices for her portrayal of Martha. Now we are taking the character of Martha into brand new territory with a starring role in Torchwood".
"I can't wait to start filming on Torchwood and the new series of Doctor Who," said Freema. "It's a huge new challenge for me and I'm delighted Russell has decided to expand the character of Martha Jones.'"
The new announcement leaves a vacant space in the TARDIS. A new companion for The Doctor, who will join the new series for the entire 13 week run, will be announced shortly.
Also appearing in Torchwood next year will be Buffy and Angel actor James Marsters.
Doctor Who: Voyage of the Damned will most likely air on Christmas Day, with Series 4 to begin airing in March/April time and Series 2 of Torchwood begins in January 2008.

JAMES MASTERS SPIKE FROM BUFFY IN TORCHWOOD! THERES A SENTENCE I NEVER THOUGHT ID BE SAYING! CANT WAIT!
ReplyDeleteI don't like this show at all, the acting and special effects are awful. If they stopped aiming this show at kids then they could have made a better show. It's like still stuck in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteYour a c0ck, Doctor Who and torchwood are excellent. They are about the Sci fi stories and prove that you don't need hollywood budget to make great drama. Doctor Who is all about kids hiding behind couches!

ReplyDeleteDr Who and Torchwood aren't supposed to be taken seriously - they are just fun - all these people that complain about them really wind me up. They are not meant to be The X-files or 24, these are meant to be taken in the same way Joss Whedon creates Buffy or Firefly.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news about James Marsters joining Torchwood he was the best thing in Buffy and Angel - the show should really grow form strength to strength if he gets the right role.
i personally can't wait. Dr Who's great but Torchwood is simply amazing, especially since John Barrowman stars. Should be a great episode with James Marsters and the one with Alan Dale.
ReplyDeletelike both the shows, would be great if James Marsters appeared as Spike though(although i know he wont)
ReplyDeleteI watched an interview with James Marsters not to long ago and he says that he's playing an ex lover of Captain Jack's. This will be an interesting twist.
ReplyDeleteA James Marsters character and Captain Jack should be an interesting combination. I just wish I didn't have to wait for it to trickle down to BBC America before I can see it.
ReplyDeleteIt was announced that BBC America will be going with the show in January 2008 as well as in GB. Should be a good time based on the ongoing writers' strike.
