This second episode of Anna Pigeon has solidified my commitment to this show. It gave more than you could ask for in a second episode of a TV show. You can’t not form an attachment to all the characters.
The reluctance from Anna to let everyone in whilst also simultaneously letting everyone in just a little bit is perfect. I enjoy that it directly leads on from the last episode, many shows like this have episodical storylines that don’t always directly link to the next episode so it’s nice that we get to see the continuation. It feels like you are actually getting to see Anna’s life as she is going through it and we aren’t missing anything.
I love the fact that the first two episodes have started with and ended with quotes and I hope that continues because I think it ties every episode up perfectly. With this we get good pieces of advice, it’s not forced either which is great. Even if you were just to watch the show for the plot of each episode then you are still getting some really valuable advice without even realising it.
We have started to get a little bit more information about what happened with Zach, the way it is being drip-fed to the audience makes for a great watch. Especially since you have to pay close attention to Anna’s nightmares to try and understand what happened, mostly I understand that Zach must have died from being stabbed after some form of celebration but I thoroughly enjoy trying to work out what happened from very small snippets of a nightmare.
I really liked the continuation of her situation with Jessie. I think the two have really great chemistry and even though Anna has tried to push him away because of her past, neither he or she are running away from it.
One thing that makes me love the show so much is Anna’s deadpan comments about things going on, like when she said “small angry people that can see into the depths of your soul”, I fully burst out laughing at that because she was deadly serious.
Another thing the show has done really well in the first two episodes is having the ‘crime’ either directly relate to Anna or allow her to reveal information about herself because of what is going on. Finding out that Anna’s parents left Molly and her alone for three years allows us to see exactly why Anna and Molly have the relationship that they do. It’s more than them being close as sisters, it's about Molly being the person Anna saw as a parent figure, which is why we see her contact her for advice so much.
Other than all the crime happening and about to happen in this national park it seems like a fantastic place to live. If the biggest worries you have are that camera A is down and you are going to a pub to bet on whether a bird will return to the nest or not then you are living a great life.
Overall I think that was an incredible episode, getting to see the bonds of the team with Anna grow is great. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Anna and the team for the rest of the season.
