ABC continues its commitment to great storytelling with the announcement of its 2015-16 slate of programming, including the addition of 10 new series. Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment Group, will unveil the network’s new lineup to the advertising and media communities this afternoon at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.
“Our new slate of shows continues the momentum from last year. ABC was the most buzzed about network, and the only major network to hold on to its audience and to grow in the target demo. Our 2015-16 schedule, with new shows and returning favorites that reflect our commitment to world-class storytelling, will solidify ABC’s place as the network that raises the bar for what viewers expect from broadcast television,” said Lee.
ABC is the only major network to increase its Adult 18-49 audience during the 2014-15 season. ABC delivered 7 of the Top 20 entertainment series on broadcast TV this season in Adults 18-49, placing 4 of the Top 10 and claiming 3 of the Top 5 dramas: “Modern Family” and “Scandal” tie at No. 4, “How to Get Away with Murder” – No. 9, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 10, “Once Upon a Time” – No. 12, while “black-ish” and “The Bachelor” tie at No. 18.

“FRESH OFF THE BOAT” (Season 2)
Hip-hop loving Eddie Huang has moved with his family from Chinatown in Washington, D.C. to suburban Orlando, where they learn very quickly that things are very different there. Orlando doesn’t even have a Chinatown — unless you count the Huang house.

Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment Group, will unveil the network’s new lineup to the advertising and media communities this afternoon at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.
“Our new slate of shows continues the momentum from last year. ABC was the most buzzed about network, and the only major network to hold on to its audience and to grow in the target demo. ABC is the only major network to increase its Adult 18-49 audience during the 2014-15 season. ReplyDeleteWow. They did nothing really only plug holes. Very stable at least. Nashville staying where it is is a good move. Gets it to syndication numbers, while not wasting a new show on the slot. Castle remains relatively steady on Mondays, so it was a no brainer to leave it put. Oil getting the post OUAT slot seems like a waste, but then again OUAT isn't as strong of a leading as it used to be, so I guess they are letting Oil sink or swim on its own merits.

ReplyDeleteI totally get them not wanting to break up TGIT, especially since Scandal has taken a big hit in the back-half of S4 and Grey's just did away with McDreamy.. still, Grey's has proven to be an absolute tank in terms of stability. Not that I want it to leave Thursdays at 8, I think it's a good spot.. but they could surely have considered using it to launch Quantico or The Catch.

ReplyDeleteThis is a super lite fall schedule. I'm guessing The Muppets, Oil and Of Kings and Prophets will get the biggest promotional pushes.Thank god The Muppets will be helping out FotB as I'm sure it'll at least start huge.

ReplyDeleteIt can bring in big ratings, do you remember when they had the Toy Story Specials or the Prep and Landing Christmas Specials, I remember they did quite well in the demo with a good rating and so this is probably hoping to achieve that result. Plus its The Muppets :)

ReplyDeleteI'd love someone to ask Paul Lee that. Same with Castle. Actually,why keep everything in its timeslots? It's just a disastrous move. ABC isn't do that well to pull off something like this.
ReplyDeleteOKAP is 15 episodes. The Family is rumored to be 15 episodes as well. American Crime was 11 episodes this season and will probably be 10-11 episodes again. The only question would be Oil.

ReplyDeleteDeadline says it is a multicam and Joe has tweeeted that it will timeshare with Dr. Ken so I think deadline is correct.
ReplyDeleteTo me it makes sense to put the two shows about intelligence agencies next to each other even if one happens to be a fictional agency that deals with people with superpowers.
ReplyDeleteGlad they didn't move AOS around, its best for it to stay in its slot now. Muppets on a Tuesday is a bit of a surprise but a welcome one hope it helps the Tuesday night slot.

ReplyDeleteThe networks that should make the most risks are those in bad spots. ABC had a phenomenal season for the most part. They are taking relatively big risks or big risks on their two bad nights (Tuesday and Sunday) which makes sense. NBC and FOX shouldn't have safe schedules, ABC should.

ReplyDeleteI only say interesting because I figured they would have moved Nashville to Sunday 10pm, put Secrets and Lies for a fall premiere Wed 10pm to keep the momentum going and then let Of Kings fill for Nashville's break with The Family sharing the Secrets and lies slot mid season. Nashville not moving seems like the only miss for me here.

ReplyDeleteI think it would be difficult for Secrets and Lies to be ready by mid September. ABC likely hopes to get one or two big names comparable to Ryan Philippe.
ReplyDeleteWell comparatively NBC and Fox do have more risk than ABC, but even so all 3 schedules have been much safer than I had assumed.
ReplyDeleteMost surprising moves for me have been:
ABC keeping Nashville on Wednesday at 10pm
Fox keeping Empire Wednesday 9pm (that's probably the shocker of the upfronts since even NBC expected Empire to move...)
And last but not least, it seems that NBC anticipating Empire's move and decided to keep Laura on the fall schedule (which I'm still hoping will be fixed before the season begins).
CBS, usually plays it safe as well, so that should make next season kinda boring, except for Fox Tuesday, ABC Sunday, NBC Thursday, and whatever night CBS decides to place their new programming.
I knew Muppets were going to end up on Tuesday simply because it's the new show I'm most interested in and the one day a week that I can't watch shows live because I get home so late. It has happened every year for the last three years. On the bright side I probably have a better chance of falling asleep after an episode of the Muppets then AOS which will now be Wednesday morning breakfast viewing.

ReplyDeleteI'm probably the only person in the world who feels this way but I think Once would fit very well with the Wednesday night comedies. Why? Because it is, in essence, a show about family. Thematically it would go well together but I understand why they keep in on Sundays at 8pm.
