ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like her but people are straight up ruthless with her. By the way, the smart question for someone to ask is whether we will have an ending for Elena or not this year. Just because we will have Nina leaving, doesn't mean Elena will end. The Originals is filled up with people playing other people's characters, so I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the same stunt here to keep the love triangle going.

ReplyDeleteAbout the poster question the way I saw it was Elena turning to Stefan, and Stefan being there for her while Damon and Bonnie were in the prison world.
For me, this season was good up to recently (except for Enzo's storyline which has been terrible all season), I hope they find a way to get it back up again and keep it there, although Kai leaving will be a huge downer for me.
You had me 'til the teenage Hope part. The idea of an all-powerful teen raised by vampires just screams uncontrollable psycho brat.

Yes, season 7 looks bad if Nina is not there but at least give them a chance and although lately Im not the biggest fan of Plec, for once It is not her fault, it was Nina's decision to leave.
ReplyDeleteThis season was quite the good ride. Usually VD has a difficult post mid-season run but this year they are pretty constant and deliver good stories.

There'd be a lot of pressure over who to get to play her if they did that. It's difficult enough for a new lead to come in so late but it would be a challenge to act like Elena.

ReplyDeleteI had this pretty cool storyline for Hope growing up (they can't deal with a baby forever).
ReplyDeleteThe vampirism in Hopes body forces her anatomy to adapt way quicker than usually and forcefully ages Hope, leaving mental scars and pain. To make Hope forget this painfull ideal and to give her a somewhat normal life Klaus erases her mind. 10 years later: Elijah rises from the dead for mysterious reasons and (like in the pilot) we catch up with the shows characters in the first episode. We see Hope as a 22 year old college student that lives a fairly normal life with Hayley and Jackson raising her, pretending to be a normal family. Klaus watched over her from the dark. The rest of the arc is basically Elijah, Rebekah and Klaus trying to reconcile with their kin and figuring out who brought Elijah back from the dead (what would be the TVD universes "devil" aka the creature that granted witches their powers and now demands them back by witch-genocide)
Klaus needs to compel them all to shut up.

And I agree with the comment that Supernatural was a pretty bad example to compare this situation with. Jared or Jensen did not leave after season five. The show would be toast if either of them did.

ReplyDeleteI hated when Mulder/DD left the X-Files, but I stuck with it to the end, and it wasn't too bad, I actually enjoyed it. Shows can adjust when a lead leaves, and many people are carrying on like Nina is the only lead, there are actually three. The comparisons I've seen linking Elena to characters like Harry Potter or Buffy are just ridiculous.

NOBODY would believe another actress playing Elena. Why would anyone even want it? Nina has been Elena for 6 seasons. If you're thinking that would save Delena, or even get Stelena back, you need to think again.

I get being upset over Nina leaving, I mean a show losing its protagonist is kind of a risky thing and I think Nina's great (even if I think Elena became an unpleasant character after she became a vampire). But seriously, they're hating on Julie for this? Don't get me wrong, I haven't always agreed with the decisions of Julie and her team of writers, but this was Nina's decision, not Julie's. While I can't read Julie's mind I'd be pretty surprised if she wanted to lose the protagonist of a show she's been working on for 6 years and a friend at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI also really hope that this isn't the image that Julie has of TVD's fans... Especially because the whole overfocus on the Delena vs. Stelena thing is I think part of what caused TVDs nosedive in quality from season 3 onwards.
I'll definitely give her credit for admitting they did wrong by Enzo though. He was my favourite addition to season 5, a vampire who just had fun with his vampirism, full of clever lines but not completely without a heart or loyalty. Like Damon before he suffered what I can only imagine is severe brain damage after being kicked around by the originals so many times. I can respect that she admitted they did wrong by him in this season and I hope that means that they'll improve the character's arc in the future.

God i hope she doesn't end up with matt donovan. If Julie does it she will officially admit that a) she doesn't respect her fans' wishes b) she is a mean bitch who doesn't pass the opportunity to get back at all delena and stelena fans that insulted her over the years C) she knows nothing of portraying the love in a beautiful way. Knowing Julie she will most likely screw everything. For example the klaroline fans got a demeaning quickie in the woods instead of a decent closure. If she spat in their faces, who is to say she won't do the same to us all.

Yet they're all losing their minds over the "ending" part...They just hate on everyone and everything while a couple of months ago they were calling Stelena and Klaroline fans haters. (And this is comng from someone who hates both Stelena and Klaroline) The funniest tweets on twitter were the ones calling Ian ugly and attention seeker, yet they all are practically drooling over Damon...I'm truly disgusted.
Sorry to say but JP needs to accept some of the blame. She is after all the "mother of these little dragons" and should not be surprised when they breath fire. The show knew Elena was leaving, they know how hard they pushed Nina to the point of exhaustion. Delena has always been their cash cow and they will milk it up until it's very end. Not surprised fans are upset and disappointed about that. I would not be surprised if the ending of S6 continues to leave fans hanging where Delena is concerned so they will tune into S7.

From that moment on the Delena's started believing that they had control of the story and that Delena was forever and not just another storyline.

You either have a poor memory or it's selective. Stelena shippers acted beyond deranged - and unbelievably rude, crude and hateful when the storyline shifted to Delena. They were very happy when things suited them, not so much when they didn't anymore. It's just a TV show, dude.

TVD has been renewed for a seventh season. Were you watching the same shows I did? S6 has been terrific. And what does "I can pick up" mean? You'll stop watching? No loss.

its a vampire show which is why I tuned in but after reading the books and saw how they totally went off the rails from the books... I don't mind a little change here and there but come on lol
I am thinking she takes the cure, and Damon compels her to forget everything about him... I am thinking he tricks her and she takes it thinking there is enough for both of them?? Once she takes it, he says he wants her to have a normal human life and then he compels her. Maybe next season will be the finale with Damon somehow becoming Human and running off to find Eleana and Caroline/Stephan look after the generations of Delana offsrping....

ReplyDeleteJulie Plec, don't even bring Supernatural into this. Kripke said he had to rewrite the ending of "Swan Song" because the show got renewed for a S6. Yeah he told his story but not without having to compromise his original intent. Don't act like TVD and Supernatural are the same!

Some (NOT ALL) Delena fans think they can dictate the writing and that really pisses me off because there are other people on the show that fans love too and it should never be all about one couple!....i love TVD and will ride it out until it ends but I felt like this was coming...if you think about the writing this past season...they Gave "steorline" and "bamon" more screen time...i was a stelena shipper and i must admit when i saw the season 6 promo picture and saw damon and bonnie holding hands and stefan & elena holding hands it got my hopes up...but thats what this show does smh...I'm over the stelena idea but im still holding out hope that Bamon will happen...i love their chemistry. I'm also glad that julie was able to admit they wrote enzo poorly but then she also need to admit that she has done matt, jeremey, and tyler wrong too!.Anyway I'm excited to see how things play out...I will miss nina but not because of "elena" but because i was hoping that katherine would appear somehow lol...In my perfect world the originals and tvd will collide when tvd is in its final episode and i will get my bamon, stelena, and klaroline lol

But ad dollars are and ratings plus DVR playbacks are still important as is international and all three are way down. Social media is great to get your name out there and to draw people to your show and yet from season 4 on it has failed to do so. So yes social media is important if it helps your show and I'm sorry Delena Rainkiss did nothing in terms of ratings or DVR playbacks and that is what ad buyers look at. I find it hilarious that people say ratings don't matter until there is a show like Empire and all they talk about is how it is a ratings smash hit and suddenly ratings are important.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's possible to wipe out so much memories without serious damage to personality and brain. Also Elena wouldn't want to forget Matt, Bonnie Caroline etc, and Damon knows it, it would be a serious breach of trust if he took that many people away from her.
ReplyDeleteI kind of hope that the TVD will run for several more years exploring the two vampire brothers dynamic. As long as they don't saddle them with girl drama.
I think that when the series finale will come Julie will either kill off Damon or simply send them both on their different journeys. After all they are vampires, they have centuries ahead of them.
Also Elena becoming human and having children means eventually there will be more doppelgangers.
I think they planned to wait and announce after the season finale, but because it was spoiled on instagram by the goodbye party and things a couple crew members tagged they decided to be honest and let us know now that Nina was going to leave at the end of the season. I think their plan was to do the same as they did with Clarie Holt and announce it as soon as her final episode aired.

I think her acting is just not very good. She's just not lead material IMO and she can't really emote well. I think she was better on H2O than TVD/TO or TSC, so she's getting worse not better.
ReplyDeleteShe chose to go into acting as a profession and I think it's fair to critique it. I don't think Phoebe has ever been very good, but I think Joseph & Daniel (I'll add in Sebastian as well) are just lost and just way too over-dramatic now, but I think that's probably because of the writing because I think they were okay in the past.

ReplyDeleteI agree on JoMo being overdramatic but he has always been chewing the scenery (wich to me was hit and miss). Gillies just seems to put on his most basic performance (not too much, not too little). As a huge fan of his for years (follwed his career since Spiderman 2) I can't say that he's at his worst now but certainly at his most indifferent towards the scripts he's getting (his worst part was in Young Hercules).

And yet these three are still the only actors on the show I consider to be keeping the standart up. Leah is okay but pretty much the rest of the cast is bad. I like Rileys and Maisies performances though

ReplyDeleteI like both characters very much but I'm not sure they'd be good as a couple right now. Bon Bon's emotional state is so fragile and relationships on TVD never go smoothly. They've definitely gotten to the friendship stage though, which is a miracle in itself, but I haven't seen even one spark of sexual attraction between them. I know this sounds sexist because Bon Bon is a powerful woman in her own right, but I see Damon having protective feelings toward her rather that wanting to take her to his bed. I'd like to be proven wrong though; things can change in Season 7. If there's still any of that sweetness, kindness, bravery and loyalty in Bon Bon after her terrible ordeal I think she could be really good for Damon in a way Elena couldn't be.

ReplyDeleteI think/feel if that were true, they wouldn't have posted it on the internet to begin with and definitely wouldn't have labeled it as such. They gave in and pretty much said "screw it" if that was the case. Nina's plan backfired terribly. And if Nina were trying to pull it off like Claire did, it wouldn't have worked, two different roles, two very different importances.

Fans have been waiting for these 2 to be together for a very long time which is why the show continued to put roadblocks in their way to keep fans coming back for more. Many fans did get fed up and left but it does not negate the fact that Delena has been a major draw for this show. PR - News Articles, Awards, Interviews etc...

ReplyDeleteHey Gwennie.... sry for your upcoming loss....The "Nina's News" did not come as a shock to me... It's too bad the couple you rooted for broke up in life just as the series put 'em together.... Nina just hasn't had fun on set these last two seasons and the scenes with Ian are beyond forced... DE could have been written in an acceptable way for me, but they needed to start 'em off much differently.... The SB cast a lingering shadow on their whole relationship....lazy writing.

It was not the friendly break as reported.... her enthusiasm in the DE scenes and bad writing are the reason for the decline in viewers.

Okay, I'm not going to embarrass you by copying the portion about Delena but you need to read it again. Smoldering kisses was what the CW or the WB built their brands around were talking about all the other shows like Buffy etc and than it jumped into the season 3 Delena kiss. This had nothing to do with the CW building its brand around them alone and their mention was barely a blip.

Honestly, I think the poor girl is just tired and needs a rest. Ian could have something to do with it but how does Nina ever expect to work again (especially since she seems to have a thing for falling for her co-workers) if she can't be a professional and move beyond a break-up of her making? It has been 2 yrs. now I still think everyone has moved on.

ReplyDeleteAs for reality, I am well aware that the SOD have catered to the Delena's at the shows expense. Stefan became a secondary character and the rest of the actors on the show were merely bit players. I am also aware that as of last week that the ratings have sunk to a startling low that concerns even the most die hard Delena fans. I am also aware that every stunt that Dries has pulled these past two seasons including the rainkiss has not brought in any additional viewers. So yes you got your Delena but your losing the show. Also if we are dealing in reality if you think Elena is going to end up with either brother your delusional. The powers that be are worried about the series DVD box set sakes and if she chooses either brother much like the series their numbers will decrease. Funny thing though season 1 & 2 are still the highest selling DVD's of all the seasons thus far. Hmmm, I wonder why that is?

Sadly, the beautiful care these characters received by the writers ended halfway through the series. Since then, the players in TVD we had all grown to love so well have been written two-dimensionally with circular nonsensical and frustrating story lines. It is like the writers didn't even research the history or undertand the motivation of a single character any longer. They are simply unrecognizable. Gutted. Diminished. Uninspired. There is no vampire mystique. Vampirism is a woefully ignored deep well that could have been tastefully tapped. There are no love stories. Instead the interactions and dialogue have been reduced to Saturday morning cringeworthy kid stuff. This series is unrecognizable as a vampire show and is eons away from the quality we once enjoyed. Elena isn't being killed off, she was gone long ago. Just as the other characters have long been dead and gone. They've were replaced by shoddy doppelgangers of their once great selves at the hands of the talentless and unimaginative. The writing/producing is open to scrutiny both personally and professionally, since these entities involve themselves so deeply in fan drama. Hopefully it will remain civil. If this series hangs on, it needs some serious love and attention. But, for all practical purposes it is simply too late.
ReplyDeleteTV writers, should take something akin to the Hippocratic oath "first do no harm" and I don't mean they shoul not kill characters when the story calls for such drama.What I mean, is do no harm to the organic progression of characters.Do no harm to the stories that they themselves have created with angst as Julie Plec pointed out and relegate them to the bin of irrelevance and absurdity.
ReplyDeleteJulie Plec and her crew have written and subsequently have given us some incredibly wonderful moments. What they have not been able to do, is maintain the integrity of the characters and the one love story that defined passion, friendship, and unconditional love.Damon and Elena's love story, while not the only story,it was a journey that deserved more respect and detailed creativity. With Nina Dobrev leaving the show,the time for rectifying past mistakes and commissions is not conducive to a worthy ending for such a powerful couple.
Yes, there are other stories to be told but you cannot build a beautiful castle on the ruins of the old foundation. It will crumble and fall apart. Having said that, if the finale of season six manages to follow an organic and logical conclusion to the stories that were developing for the last six years then there is a saving grace and it's called Damon Salvatore. If they allow this complex character to be the incredible vampire that he is the show may be watchable and even enjoyable.
Perhaps the mistakes of the past will not plague a new season but be the criteria to avoid convoluted plots and concentrate on character driven stories.
