ABC developing LOST spinoff starring Michael Emerson

ABC has put in development a spinoff of the landmark series Lost, which ended some 4 years ago. The spinoff, tentatively titled "Lost: Dr. Linus", is written/executive produced by Elizabeth Sarnoff and directed by veteran Lost director Jack Bender.

The series, which will focus on the adventures of Dr. Linus in the flash-sideways timeline of the final season, is eyeing 8 series regulars. Michael Emerson will lead the ensemble cast, with Tania Raymonde (Alex Rousseau) Daniel Roebuck (Dr. Leslie Artz) and William Atherton (Principal Don Reynolds) also returning. Four new characters have yet to be cast, while former Lost actors Terry O'Quinn, Henry Ian Cusick and Mira Furlan could potentially recur.

I hear the series, which is being eyed for the 2016-17 TV season, will have 15 or 16 episodes per season. That number is in line with that of the latter seasons of Lost, which was a demand from the show's developers. It comes as no surprise since both worked on the series' third season, which had 23 episodes and which many fans and critics considered to be the worst season of the show. Therefore, it is only logical that the spinoff will have shorter seasons. All episodes are rumored to have the standard 42-minute length, but supersized finales, which Lost frequently used, are considered likely.

With Emerson currently starring in the CBS series Person of Interest, the project had to be pushed back even though the producers came up with the idea several years ago. But with Person of Interest's ratings waning, sources close to the series say its all-but guaranteed fifth season is considered to be the last. Should the series continue to run after that, Emerson's character might be written off the show but it's far too early to speculate on that.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw the title because LOST has always been near and dear to my heart so I was extremely excited for a Linus spinoff (easily one the best parts of the show) and then come to realize it was all a cruel joke :(

    Mad Men is the one show I honestly wanted to love, but couldn't. Watched the pilot and didn't feel compelled to come back at all.


    The Good Wife is a case in which it was great that I watched it regularly with my mom and my sister; what started out as a procedurial merely used as an excuse to hang out with them, became so much more. I'm still a bit far behind - season 5 -, but I have loved the ride so far. I would have never thought I'd enjoy the show so much on season 1

    I've never tried Mad Men since I know it wouldn't be my type of show. I used to put TGW on when nothing else was on but I stopped.


    I know it's great there's so much to choose from, I noticed though that my favourite genre is one of the rare ones and least likely to succeed, dark space opera's like BSG or SGU. I'm hoping The Expanse and Dark Matter can deliver and do well :)

    Wait Season 5 might be Person of Interest's last? Yes the ratings have dropped a little but it is still averaging close to 10mil live viewers per episode, is one of the best serialized shows on TV & co-run by 'Interstellar' producer/writer Jonathan Nolan who has plenty of pull (it's not like PoI is having SHIELD-like abysmal ratings anyway). Pretty sure Deadline is making stuff up cause Michael Emerson can do both the Lost spinoff & the 6th season of PoI the writers have been hinting at might be the final one.

    I always thought Ben stayed because he knew in his hearts of hearts he wasn't ready to move on, that he wasn't 'worthy'. Even though this spin-off is a Aprils Fools if they did ever do this show I could see it as Ben redeeming himself and helping people even if its a weird afterlife place.

    As much as I adore LOST, I am not stoked about this idea, A story about Ben in the "afterlife" does not excite me at all.

    I would MUCH rather see some sort of LOST spin off/connection be set in the "real" world, ie about the earliest Island inhabitants, or young Widmore's rise to leadership, or an in depth look at the origins of the Dharma initiative, Now those would excite me.

    I guess you're right. But sometimes, things never stay the same. What if the next show he books after Hawaii 5-0 ends has to be somewhere far away from Hawaii, like say either New York, Vancouver, or Atlanta? He may have no choice but to relocate his entire family.
