Thanks to Ricky, Maria Scot and Hank for the heads up.
Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish were main cast members for the final two seasons, playing the parts of Special Agent John Doggett and Special Agent Monica Reyes, respectively. While Mitch Pileggi, of course, played FBI Assistant Director Skinner from the closing episodes of the first season onwards.
While sources have stated that the trio are being eyed to reprise their roles, it should be stressed that none of them have deals in place as of yet. In fact, studio insiders tell me that there are no deals in place for anyone outside of Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. The deal making process will be getting underway in the days and weeks ahead, with some of the actors thus far only receiving feelers to see if they would be available.
Sources have indicated that Robert Patrick, for instance, would perhaps appear in a limited number of episodes if he agreed to return, in part because of his contractual obligations to CBS and their drama series Scorpion.
In addition, William B. Davis, well known for his role as CGB Spender/Cigarette Smoking Man, is also being lined up to appear in the revival.

yay, the whole band is getting back together
ReplyDeleteOf course Skinner and CSM will be back!! Dogget and Reyes are GREAT too (thanks to Patrick and Gish). Hope they can come back too.
ReplyDeleteOh yes for Skinner and the cig man but i really could do w/o Reyes and Dogget!
ReplyDeleteQuite the reunion
ReplyDeleteI'd like for all three of them to come back.
ReplyDeleteYES!
ReplyDeleteFinally we'll have the 5 mains together in one season!
YES for Doggett and Reyes, I never understood why in the second movie they had Xhibit and that actress I don't know her name when they could have easily put Doggett and Reyes in the movie, that always bothered me so they better come back for at least a couple episodes.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Doggett and Reyes so just an appearance or two would be fine with me! And yes to everyone else too.
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly geeking out over seeing the Cigarette Smoking Man again. I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteMy excitement level for each:
ReplyDeleteAnabeth Gish - Meh.
Robert Patrick - Ok.
Mitch Pileggi - Wooooo!!!!
William B. Davis -YES! YES! YES! HELLS YES!
I loved Monica Reyes and I really hope they get her back.
ReplyDeleteAlso this will be a really crowded 6 episodes... hope they can extend it by two at least.
ReplyDeleteCool news about Skinner, he's my favorite character. I liked Dogget and Reyes but I understand that Robert Patrick has other obligations although I hope they can work something out.
ReplyDeleteAny word on Krycek/Nicholas Lea? I don't remember his fate, did he in fact die on the show?
So was CSM, so why is he back?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember either dying, I only looked up Krycek because he wasn't mentioned.
ReplyDeleteThey weren't too popular with fans (due to obvious reasons, replacing the leads is always a though job but being objective: they perfectly filled the void)
ReplyDeleteAnnabeth and Robert need to come back for sure! I LOVED Doggett and Reyes together. And fans never got closure with them. Did they officially get together? Everything was left so ambiguous! I adore these two actors and characters.
ReplyDeleteNot true. Many fans loved Doggett/Reyes together and were rooting for a romance for them. Sure, fans missed Mulder when David left the show. But Doggett/Reyes were also popular with the fans...
ReplyDeleteGranted I didn't interact with the fanbase at all, especially since I wasn't even born when the show premiered but the way I was told by other former fans people didn't cope with change too well.
ReplyDeleteBut good to hear that they're popular with the fandom, I liked both characters when bingewatching the show
ROBERT PATRICK CAN'T LEAVE SCORPION!!!!!! so it BETTER be a LIMITED amount!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh Robert Patrick won't have any conflict with filming?
ReplyDeleteThere will always be people who don't like change. :) But surprisingly in this case, both characters were well received by lots of fans. I think due to both actors being talented. And also their characters were interesting and unique.
ReplyDeleteSeason 9 is actually one of my favorites. I especially loved the Doggett/Reyes centric episodes...and there were a good amount. Like when she was in a car accident and stuck in limbo...it was quite a powerful episode. Or when he was shot in an alternative universe...certain episodes really showed their connection and love. And I enjoyed the whole season a lot.
It will only be 6 episodes for X-Files. Robert can easily be in those episodes. Plus, Scorpion cast will finish filming early this week.
ReplyDeleteIf filming takes place in April - early July, then no. :)
ReplyDeleteawesome, i can relax now LOL
ReplyDelete6? wow, that's short but awesome that it won't interfere with Scorpion
ReplyDeleteTrue Scorpion season 2 will start filming in late July/August, and X-Files is said to film summer, so probaly earlier around June.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he will be back even for one episode, or two episodes.
Awesome, true he can film the show, but I think Doggett will appear in one to two episodes at least, so they can certainly work it in.
ReplyDeleteI love the characters, and liked them. The only reason people hated them because they thought they were replacing mulder and scully.
ReplyDeleteWhats the big deal in having allies, in this new show, they can appear and have screentime like skinner, but not be a major focus. Nothing wrong with that.
why DID they switch the leads though, that's a risk they took by not having their original viewers leave them, i know I would've left
ReplyDeleteAs much as i love X-Files once upon a time, can someone remind me what the point of this is? I might be the minority on this, but i would've liked it if they did this with another show.
ReplyDeleteCJM dies in the series finale when a missile hits the Mexican rock he'd been living in. And I remember Krycek dying in I think S8. In a parking garage. Skinner was there. Man, it sure has been awhile!
ReplyDeleteOh lordy, mac! So young! And here I was already in college in its final years. I do recall some online resentment for those characters though. I always liked them. Probably helps that I was already a fan of both actors.
ReplyDeleteI miss Scully and Mulder, so there's that. But I don't need to see Doggett or Reyes, nor the CSM for that matter. He died in the finale, so they should leave him that way.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm not so sure about is what I want them to do story-wise, in one way I'd love for them to complete the invasion storyline and set the show in 2012, but the whole Alien/Colonists-plot got so overly complicated and was so over the place that it might actually be better to not try and tie it together with the previous mythology. 6 standalone cases might be really cool, just to see the whole dynamic of Scully, Mulder and Skinner again, but it would be weird to ignore E.T. life and UFO's all together. Maybe a series of cases indirectly linked to the colonists but with ignoring all the unnecessary bagage (hybrids and stuff)?
Oh yes, and they should really leave Samantha Mulder out of this, her abduction/cloning/death story was (while clumsily) tied up in the show and it was stupid to have Mulder still obsessed over it in I Want To Believe. The episode where he said goodbye to her ghostlike spirit was reachng, but it gave him closure.
i can't believe this is happening , excited is an understatement for the feelings i have .
ReplyDeleteIts actually all due to netflicks. I read the only reason is back is because of that deal.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I so wanted her to be alive, but since shes dead, I accepted it.
ReplyDeleteShe should stay dead, no more clones of her. But yes she can be mentioned.
My favorite character was TCS so YES to William B. Davis and I think Skinner is a must.
ReplyDeleteI read that they won't use tie-ins to Season 10 comics, but Carter said nothing about the upcoming Season 11, which I believe there is an in between special issue featuring Reyes and Doggit?! I'm surprised they are interested in bringing those two back, because I remember fans not liking them very much, but I think it would be fun to catch up with them again...
Yes, but there is a silhouette of a 'smoking man' featured in a grave yard scene of Season 10 (Cannon Comic). Most speculate that he was revived somehow...
ReplyDeleteUgh. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOk. Not a fan of when comics become canon tbh. It's not a medium I follow.
ReplyDeleteWell Season 10 is not suppose to tie into this mini-series, so it's not like anyone has to worry about it, nor does it explain CSM's possible revival (although clones seem a likely scenario). I just brought it up, in case anyone cared about his former existence.
