Gideon's back! Sort of. Ben Savage will play a young version of Mandy Patinkin's character on Criminal Minds later this season, TVGuide.com can exclusively reveal.
The 13th episode — which executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer co-wrote with star Kirsten Vangsness and previously described as a "love letter to fans" — will feature flashbacks to the early days of the BAU in the '70s when Gideon and Rossi (Joe Mantegna) first got their start. A present-day case will force Rossi to recall a case they had worked on back then. Robert Dunne, who played young Rossi in Season 8, will reprise his role for the flashbacks. The episode is currently slated for January.

I'm confused here. Back in Season 3, Rossi shown no sign of knowing Gideon personally at all. Now, all of sudden, they have history.

ReplyDeleteShowing no sign of knowing him doesn't mean that he doesn't ; actually it's seems logical that they've known each other in the past since they're both veterans of the BAU : )
ReplyDeleteExactly. Given how long they both worked in the Bureau, I'd have to think they'd run into each other at some point. I could've sworn Rossi's mentioned Gideon's name a time or two in passing since then as well.

ReplyDeleteHe could have known Gideon, in the reaper episode after the bus Rossi talks hotch outoff self destructing like Gideon. Plus it has been mentioned that both Rossi and Gideon were around for the fotmation of the BAU.
ReplyDeleteThere we go! I knew he mentioned Gideon on occasion! And exactly-whether or not they were friendly with each other, I don't know, but clearly they would've been aware of each other.
ReplyDeleteKind of a shame that Mandy has no desire to return to the show, 'cause I must say, I would love to see Gideon and Rossi as we currently know them interacting with each other. I get the feeling they'd butt heads a bit, and then form a grudging respect for each other along the way :p.
As far as I know it is, yeah :). I've heard a little bit about her writing outside the show, but haven't seen anything she's written, so I'm particularly interested to see what sorts of ideas she'd bring to the table storywise. Yay for her getting this sort of a chance on the show, I bet she'll have lots of fun doing this.
