Indeed. But I would be shocked if it lasted. The social media crowd won't like being made fun of... and nowadays you need their support to make your show last. Already on Twitter I'm seeing people reacting negatively towards all the anti-social media jokes.
I liked the changes they made from the pilot they released online. The final scene especially was toned down and a better fit overall. It'll be interesting to see how the second episode holds up.
You have a point, @Winger77. Plus, ABC doesn't own the show and I've heard it wasn't very good. Still, I hope it does okay but the fact that it wasn't trending on Twitter might be an ominous sign for its ratings tomorrow.
I loved all the changes except Eliza not getting a chance to say "Thank you. But what if you didn't want to show this off" in response to the stewardess's comment about her body.
I thought it was cute but I think they definitely could have done the show without it being My Fair Lady 2014. If they really wanted to redux, they should have gender reversed it - girls don't own shallow. How many self obsessed 20-somethings can you cram into a week of programming? Apparently it's a LOT. Karen is just adorable and her American accent was really good. John Cho is always a joy to watch but it will take me some time to get used to him NOT have a broken fucked up neck (Sleepy Hollow for those who don't watch).
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
It was actually a good pilot. I liked that the pilot tackled on social skills and etiquette.

ReplyDeleteMy impression was pretty much "meh".
ReplyDeleteThere's potential, but I don't really trust that the show will bring it out
