Marvel or DC - which would you choose? We went out to a local convention and asked some of the attendees their thoughts.
Myself (CJ) and my partner in crime Mark are always debating on certain topics and one of the biggest ones is which would we choose, Marvel or DC. So we went out to a local convention to find out what other peoples choices were. So with me behind the camera and Mark asking the question, who do you think the winner was?
What is your choice? Let us know in the poll below and tell us why in the comments. Don't forget to vote for your favourite Marvel movie in our poll here and we will be revealing the results very soon!
Film - Marvel
ReplyDeleteTV - DC
Comics - Marvel
Films - Marvel.
ReplyDeleteTV - DC.
Films: Marvel
ReplyDeleteTV: DC
Choose DC for TV and Marvel for films is a no-brainer.
ReplyDeleteI've grown up in a stirctly Marvel household so I always end up going back to them, their cinematic universe is fantastic aswell.
ReplyDeleteThere were some really fantastic DC comics that I used to love before the New 52 happened, now the only series I pick up regularly is The Flash.
I do prefer the DC TV universe though, they seem to do a consistently better job at producing great shows. I am looking forward to Marvel's Netflix ventures though, Iron Fist is my favourite comic book character!
So in a very rambly way i'm trying to say that I voted Marvel but there are some DC things that I love aswell.
As a lot of people said here DC for Tv, Marvel for Movies.
ReplyDeleteI must say that besides the X-men and Spiderman I don't follow Marvel. These 2 animated shows made my childhood so I'm only watching movies out of their franchise. The other stuff isn't just working for me. Overall cinematography stopped working for me.
TV - DC
ReplyDeleteFilm - DC - I absolutely loved the Batman films.
Marvel :-)
ReplyDeleteHope this can stay civil. If we were talking about what I grew up with then DC would win but Marvel have taken over my life in both the comics and films/TV especially now the Nolan/Bale Batman era is over with.
ReplyDeleteTV-DC The shows are a lot better.
ReplyDeleteMovies-DC The Dark Night Trilogy, enough said.
The best MCU movie is Captain America TWS. I really don't care for the rest of them.
TV-DC The shows are a lot better.
ReplyDeleteMovies- Other the Nolan's Batman, better Marvel for me(i grew up with Marvel superheroes) but my favourite was obviously the Bat xD.
Although for me Nolan's version of Batman beats everything xD(maybe not all three movies but TDK and TDKR they do.
also let me know what you think of the video and it's style :)
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a DC guy... I don't like Marvel's superheroes aside from Spidey, Deadpool and Guardians...
ReplyDeleteeheeh really cool video. Especially i like the guy who said neither, that was unexpected. Also loved the Sonic sound at the end xD. Oh that was Link's fairy at the end right?
ReplyDeleteyup that was navi from Zelda (i like throwing in little geeky things)
ReplyDeletethat's cool, now you make want to play Zelda again for the 1000th time ^^
ReplyDeleteThat is my vote, too ! So the choice is TV versus Film, which I love both, so ultimately an impossible choice to make...
ReplyDeleteThe century-old question!
ReplyDeleteThe question that starts more wars than countries!
The question that I can't just answer with saying 'Marvel' or 'DC'.
Both Marvel and DC have their triumphs and their faults when it comes to the comics.
DC is a beast when it comes to animated features and their cartoons and while Marvel has had some winners, as of late they've seem to focus on renewing their stinkers while canceling the more superior shows(The Spectacular Spider-Man, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes). While certain DC cartoons have been cancelled prematurely as well, I don't see a more childish take on Young Justice being made in order to fit a younger demographic. DC wins this category.
Marvel has been on a great roll as of late with Marvel Studios' Cinematic Universe, which would only be greater if they could get the rights to Spider-Man, X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider, but Marvel Studios has accomplished a lot already with the characters they can use. While DC is finally trying to straighten their path and while they've had some great films in the past in their solo universes(such as The Dark Knight Trilogy), Marvels wins this category with ease.
They each have their bigger accomplishments, so it comes down to who I've always been a fan of and personally, I've always enjoyed the massive scope of DC Comics where their characters feel god-like and EVEN Batman, a human being, does such when he's created to be this perfect human specimen. Marvel focus a lot on normal people gaining these powers and while they have some god-like characters like Thor, I always preferred the almost mythological type of characters that DC has. Now, if only we can get a DC Cinematic Universes that really relishes on this idea.
Very enjoyable to watch :-) And that kid picking Star Trek... XD
ReplyDeleteFilms Marvel, TV DC yes! Because of the writing for them and the way the Marvel films are handled.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I am not a comic reader, so I only draw from what has been adapted on screen one way or another. So if I am forced to choose it would be DC although I think Marvel is doing a much better Job at bringing their world to a broader audience. I love their movies and AoS and how both tie in.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite supes are the X-Men with Wolverine leading. But in terms of "superheroe" Batman has always been my no 1 by and recently closely followed by Arrow. Batman reminding me of my childhood hero: Zorro and Arrow of course reminding me of Robin Hood..... and this gives these heroes (the ones I know of) a background most others can't offer for me. know Thor is actually a nordic god but for me it's not as nostalgic (and the second movie is one of my favorites). Maybe if MCU would have fleshed out Hawkeye a bit more I'd have a tougher time....Naa somehow DC heroes are more of a slow burn for me. Have liked all DC characters and never cared for spiderman or the fantastic four.
Both!!
ReplyDeleteWait a minute. There's a bloke in a Green Arrow costume and he says Marvel.
ReplyDeleteFilm - Marvel
ReplyDeleteComics - Marvel
TV - DC (May change depending how the Marvel Netflix series do.)
I was about to pot: and the Girl as Black canary before him did not have an idea. Minute 1:51
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is, that MCU has to the rights back to Ghost Rider. There's been rumors, going around for months, that a GR tv series, will be part of Nexflix phase 2 or 3.
ReplyDeleteI love both franchises. I read DC Comics first as a kid. But was more drawn to Marvel, as i got older.
ReplyDeleteComics- Marvel
Movies- Marvel blows away anything DC has done, except for The Dark Knight Trilogy
TV- DC has the edge right now, with their fall schedule. But i was liking Agents of SHIELD more than Arrow, by the end of last season. I'm really looking forward to: The Flash, Gotham, Constantine, Daredevil, Agent Carter, Jessica Jones, and iZombie.
They do?
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'd love to see a good series on Netflix. I think that'll be a fresh idea because we've seen two lousy GR films already. We don't need another film of the character and he would be a great fit with the whole 'Defendors' idea Marvel Studios has planned for their Netflix shows. I want to see Moon Knight as part of it too.
I can't choose I love both. Grew up with X-Men comics right next to my Green Lantern ones.
ReplyDeleteFIlm: Marvel
ReplyDeleteTelevision: DC.
Smallville will always be one of my favourite TV shows, and I have to say that Guardians of the Galaxy immediately made it to my top 10 fave films list.
Anyway, I don't do comics or comic films. But I watch Arrow and The Flash's pilot was superb. So DC.
ReplyDeleteDC of course. Although Marvel wins in the movies and DC suck very very very much on TV, but DC got better characters.
ReplyDeleteIt's true. Come on. Marvel is ruthless in cinema. Right?? Very good movies.
DC made good movies too. The Batman Begins and TDK are great. And Man of Steel is above the average, unfortunately MoS is not that great, but it's good. DC is trying to find her path in the cinema. But, Arrow sucks as a TV Show, because there's nothing of Green Arrow in this show, except the names of the characters. The Constantine pilot is awful. Just awful. And a TV show of Flash?? Where is the redhair in Iris West's character??
By far Marvel, both in movies and in the comics. I've never really taken to the DC comics, aside from Batman and Superman only when Darkseid is involved. My biggest issue with DC was that all the heroes are ridiculously overpowered. Superman is the worst because he's basically invincible in every way, even kryptonite can be overcome in some extreme cases. Where Marvel has compelling characters that have powers but also have to rely on smarts because they're not just light years ahead of their villains, plus they seem to have better stories. That's my thoughts anyway.
ReplyDeleteMoS involved Superman killing Zod, and engaging in a fight that destroyed half of Metropolis. It's trash. If you want a good story that involves Superman being pushed to the point of killing, play Injustice: Gods Among Us and read the backup comics.
ReplyDeleteMarvel all day!!
ReplyDeleteComics - DC
ReplyDeleteTelevision - DC
Film - Marvel
DC hands down, partly because I'm baised as a huge Batman fan. The Dark Knight Triology is still the best three comic book films ever made, Captain America The Winter Soldier comes close.
ReplyDeleteI love DC comics more, their villians I love more, their heroes I love more.
DC's shows and animated movies and shows are just top notch.
Now in saying that I do like Marvel films, TWS was great, I was very let down by GOTG. I love Iron Man 1, and I'm a huge fan of The Avengers.
That's fair enough, I'm very biased also as a DC fan so I'm always going to say DC over Marvel however Marvel's flicks are top notch and I'll give credit where credits due.
ReplyDeleteFilm - Marvel
ReplyDeleteTV - DC
Both for me.
ReplyDeleteI would say Films: Disney (because the movies Marvel made under the lead of Disney are so much better than what other studios do with their franchises), but overall, I agree. Currently Marvel has the better movies, but DC still leads on TV.
ReplyDeleteMarvel for me.For tv shows,DC is better i think.
ReplyDeleteBatman is my all time favorite Superhero and maybe DC has better superheroes in overall, but I love Marvel's movies so my vote goes to Marvel.
ReplyDeleteThe movie does not fail to be good because superman killed Zod. It's a good movie. When I first watched i thought: "this movie is weird". But then I watched two more times. And I realized that MoS was made for the fans, because Superman had already killed in the comics, including Zod. It is a bold move, make him kill someone, but the consequences will lead to Batman V Superman. Where there will be that anti-Superman feeling.
ReplyDeleteSuperman killed Zod in the comics. People seem to forget that. Also god forbid a movie has a fight that makes sense given the fact these are super powered aliens instead of having weak villains that nobody cares about and 0 causalities (like in Avengers).
ReplyDeleteMovies - DC
ReplyDeleteTelevision - DC
Comics - Both
Marvel movies are getting incredible cookie cutter and weak. All have the same formula and there's nothing exciting about them. It's always the same thing: a forced joke every 5 min, recycled plots, weak villains, no character development, etc. Also there's no danger and the heroes never have to risk anything and are never challenged.
Still Marvel is going to win the people because they are the most popular franchise right now.
Yep , definitely. It easily beats some of the films marvel have released.
ReplyDeleteI agree that The Dark Knight is the best superhero movie ever. There are some that come close though. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Blade come to mind. But none are it's equal. I'd also go so far as to say, that Nolan's Batman trilogy, is the best individual superhero franchise.
ReplyDeleteBut i strongly disagree, that Marvel uses the same formula, and recycle plots; for all of it's movies. The Captain America movies are conspiracy films, about patriotism- truth- justice- and the American way. Kind of like Marvel's answer to Superman. Except that Cap is an American. Thor is a family drama, that take place in part, in another dimension. Doctor Strange wil be the supernatural side of things.
Iron Man is social commentary, about the responsibility, of those who have power. And the devastation of war. The Incredible Hulk, has always been a social commentary, both about how to treat those who are different (similar to the X-Men); and the evils of weapons development, at any cost.
IMO Tony Stark, went through a lot of character development. Unlike Sups in Man of Steel, which was more of an action flick imo. This coming from a guy, who never liked Iron Man in the comics.
Betty in TIH was as strong a female character, as Lois Lane in MoS. And Gwen was as strong as either, in the ASM films. Though both franchises far very short on female superheroes. But hopefully that changes with Wonder Woman, Black Cat, Scarlet Witch, and Captain Marvel.
I disagree about the depth. Ironman has had no depth since the second movie and it's all about Tony's charisma. And the movies have no struggles and the heroes always face the easiest villains. Thor has turned into the Loki show and the movie with the most stupid jokes (like Darcy and that dumb metro scene).
ReplyDeleteSuperman in MoS went through a lot character development. From living isolated from anyone to accepting his real identity and his responsibility. But people usually focus on the destruction which was the one of the few movies with DofFP that showed how a fight between super powered people should be.
But I agree about Gwen and Lois. Also I loved Days of the Future Past but personally I'm tired of the MCU movies always being the same. I felt like a waste of money to pay to see Thor 2.
I agree with everything. Those are my favorite Marvel movies as well.
ReplyDeleteThe DC animated movies are the best. I recommend everyone to watch The Flash Point Paradox.
Exactly. Also it gives the people a good reason to support Lex Luthor in is anti Superman campaign in the next movie.
ReplyDeleteMarvel.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't a single DC movie I like, Green Lantern is the only one that comes close. On TV, I just couldn't stand Smallville, how that show lasted 10 seasons is beyond me! I liked Arrow in season 1 but found it so boring in season 2. After how disappointing it got for me I won't be watching The Flash either since it's the same people working on it. I might binge-watch it after season 1 if I hear really good things about it.
With Marvel the only one of their earlier movies I liked was Daredevil. I didn't like the original X-Men or Spider-Man movies, I haven't seen their other early movies.
I liked First Class but haven't seen Days of Future Past and I love The Amazing Spider-Man movies. The Captain America movies are the only new movies I don't like. Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't very good either imo.
On TV I like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D but I don't think I'll enjoy Agent Carter, it sounds kinda boring.
Film: Marvel
ReplyDeleteComics: Marvel
TV: DC - could change depending on what Marvel does with Netflix shows.
Darkman was pretty darn good for a low budget, campy flick.
ReplyDeleteYou must have loved the fold-out Bat Shield as did I!
ReplyDeleteAlways thought Bill Bixby in the Hulk series was one of the best. Check out Mr. Terrific and Captain Nice for two late 60's cheesy superhero shows.
ReplyDeleteWho's the star? Liked the flicks but thought Cage way over acted.
ReplyDeleteDC has better characters but Marvel kicks their butt with stories which puzzles me. Haven't seen an acceptable Killing Joke or Death in the Family except in print.
ReplyDeleteMarvel for comics and movies, but DC for the TV shows hand down, being a huge fan of the emerald archer :)
ReplyDelete
