Everyone was weeping in this very special episode. Still they've made contact so it's all uphill from here, right? Well at least for the ones who get a spot on the next ship down.
I voted for Clarke breaking down over Finn and then confronting her mother. It's the first time we've seen Clarke break. She's been angry since they got there, for various reasons, but she's managed to hold it together pretty admirably until now. I've liked her character from the start but she has seemed a little too "super woman" at times so this scene humanized her a lot. The acting was pretty great too particularly when she was talking to her mother.
Loved the Bellamy and Clarke moment at the end: "Who we are and who need to be to survive are very different things." Beautiful scene with them growing closer. Loved it.
The grounder really didn't get my sympathy. He's creepy. Yes, the torture was kind of brutal, but Clarke and Bellamy had no choice but to either to get the grounder to tell them, or let Finn die. Bellamy waited until Clarke gave him the okay, it's not something they wanted to do. Not much of a choice when it's life or death. Octavia defended him out of self-interest, I don't agree Clarke was making excuses. It was a last resort. Octavia is romanticizing the grounder. The guy did save her life, so what, he also chained her up with the intention of forcing her to stay his prisoner. And he WANTED Finn to die. I get that Octavia is attracted to the danger and mystery of him, but it's not going to end well, and Octavia is being very naive. My favorite was the Bellamy/Clarke bonding. Next episode should be good.
I voted for the scene of Bellamy and Clarke moment at the end as well. I have been waiting for their this moment for a while after seeing the promo right before the show aired and it's like Bellamy and clarke are connecting at an emotional level in this scene, just love it:)
If they had stabbed the Grounder, I still don't think he would have said anything. He was prepared to die...So there really wasn't any other option available. They got lucky because the Grounder cares about Octavia. Other than that, there wouldn't have been a solution here. Had they stabbed him, he would have just died. He wasn't effected by their torture, and he'd die before he'd give away the correct antidote.
I really don't see what else Bellamy/Clarke would have tried that would have worked...Had he not cared about Octavia, he would have never told them the right medicine.
Exactly. The grounder seems to be some kind of soldier and he seems to be incredible loyal to his group so I'm sure he would have died before telling them anything.
I like the torture scene because it was brutal and hard to watch. After watching so many years of torture porn on TVD it was nice to see a CW show that portrays torture as something horrible. Also I love that Clarke doesn't mind getting her hands dirty and didn't expect Bellamy to do all the torture for her. It's nice that the writers aren't planning to keep her innocent.
Agreed. Bellamy's face while he was hitting the grounder looked like he was suffering more than the grounder. He didn't look like he was enjoying it one bit. Even afterwards he looked pretty shaken by it. Good to see that they're not unaffected by their actions.
Great post. I was also going to add that I thought the "torture" scenes with Bellamy/Clarke were intense and amazingly acted. Bellamy's facial expressions were more difficult to watch for me because he looked devastated. And it is interesting that Clarke basically asked him to do this, and he quickly agreed. I think Bob and Eliza are the strongest actors on the show. They're very good at conveying different emotions.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI liked that she confronted Abby about her father. It gives them some place to go with their relationship by getting things out in the open quickly.

ReplyDeleteI disagree. If they were smart, they would have cut him with the knife and not need to resort to torture at all. It was not smart of them.
