The Jennings clan from FX’s The Americans soon might be joined by another family of U.S.-based Russian spies, The O’Connors. NBC’s drama pilot Allegiance (aka Coercion), about a Russian sleeper cell, has been gaining momentum and is considered a prime contender for a pickup. Also hot is another serialized drama, Traffic-like conspiracy thriller Odyssey, which already had been on a series track with backup scripts written. Additionally, very much in the running are two female starring vehicles, State Of Affairs with Katherine Heigl, which is in The Blacklist mold of a complicated central character in a serialized/procedural setting, and the lighter The Mysteries of Laura toplined by Debra Messing. Allegiance and State of Affairs are actively hiring showrunners. An early standout, DC Comics-based Constantine has lost some steam but still is a possibility, maybe for NBC’s Friday genre block. Family saga Salvation is in the mix, zombie drama Babylon Fields is considered a long shot, while futuristic drama Tin Man appears unlikely.

My picks for he new fall season are Gotham, State of Affair, Flash, iZombie, Messengers, Dangerous Liassons, American Crime, Warriors and HTGAWM. Hopefully they all get picked up.
ReplyDeleteJane The Virgin is really fighting for a spot haha.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Forever tested good, I'm hoping ABC orders it, but I'm not holding my breath. Sad about Exposed, I could have used Ben Barnes on my TV weekly ;)
ReplyDeleteI really really hope ABC decides to do a lot of limited run series, actually, they could pick up most of their pilots, most sound really promising and limited runs are better anyway. Although I'm guessing that won't happen or they would have started shortening stuff like Revenge by now. Anyway, The Visitors sounds awesome and I hope it makes it.
ReplyDeleteAnd FOX has made freaking character posters for Gotham and released them. It has a website. It's been picked up for weeks now! Deadline is really stubborn about admitting it.
The CW should also try limited runs for a couple shows and pick up all their pilots. Even JtV.
Gotham has been a sure thing for weeks. FOX gave it a website and are releasing character posters so there's no chance of it NOT being "officially announced" IMO.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised the Katie Holmes starrer Dangerous Liaisons doesn't have much buzz.
ReplyDeleteI won't judge until I've seen footage of the show, maybe it could be a sweet family drama, and it's from the writer of Emily Owens, M.D. (was a good show), so I expect it to be at least entertaining
ReplyDeleteIts not looking to good for Revolution with all the buzz the shows for NBC is getting....
ReplyDeleteThis :(
ReplyDeleteMy picks for the new fall season are Agent Carter, Flash, iZombie, Empire, Stalker Unit (Kevin Williamson project), Babylon Fields, Constantine and maybe The Visitors.
ReplyDeleteMy picks for the moment are:
ReplyDeleteAbc - Visitors, Clementine, Agent Carter, How To Get Away With Murder, Sea of Fire, Forever, Cristela, Galavant and Selfie
Cbs - Ncis: New Orleans, Csi: Cyber, Scorpion and How I Met Your Dad
Fox - Gotham, Empire, Red Band Society and Dead Boss
Nbc - Constantine, Allegiance, State of Affairs, The Mysteris of Laura, Salvation, Tin Man (even though it's unlikely), Marry Me, A to Z, Bad Judge and Feed Me.
Cw - Flash, iZombie, The Messengers, Supernatural: Bloodlines (it's not a sure thing like The Originals was, but the rating of the backdoor pilot can't be ignored), and one between Identity and Jane The Virgin (but I think that these two series would be hard to pair).
The fact that Jane The Virgin is still in contention surprise me, but I'm just happy for Yael Grobglas.
If Kevin would go back to Supernatural then I would not be upset with Revolution ending.
ReplyDeleteI think the bloodlines rating was just because it was a SPN ep and on its own will not fly.
ReplyDeleteKevin?
ReplyDeleteMy picks for new shows are:
ReplyDeleteABC: How To Get Away With Murder, Sea of Fire, Warriors, The Visitors, American Crime, Fresh Off The Boat, An American Education, Selfie and Agent Carter.
CBS: Madam Secretary, NCIS: New Orleans, CSI: Cyber and Scorpion.
FOX: Gotham and Red Band Society.
NBC: Constantine, The Pro, Old Soul, Mission Control, Allegiance and Feed Me.
CW: The Flash, iZombie and The Messengers.
CW : Im happy that Identity is starting to fall behind other pilots. Im disappointed about Bloodlines, i didnt like the idea at first but i liked the pilot much more than i expected. Even through i agree it was different from Supernatural , but that deosnt mean it was bad and it looked like we could get great starring main female bad ass character.
ReplyDeleteiZombie and Flash were my favorites from the beginning. The Messangers was my absolute favorite but i dont like the casting very much so im really curious to see trailer
As for Jane , i hated the idea at first but if it can turn to be something funny like Hart of Dixie, i am here for it
So in the end i hope they will pick 5 pilots (except Identity) + renew HoD(short season so other pilots can get a chance)+ The 100 (it can have short season too)
ABC doesn't seem to like limited run series..
ReplyDeleteLOL, just call this a senior moment, I of course meant Eric Kripke.
ReplyDeleteHaha no worries, But I would love if he came back.
ReplyDeleteI think they will pick 5 pilots unless one of the pilots it's really bad. The Flash and iZombie are already sure pick ups.
ReplyDeleteI am most excited about:
ReplyDelete-The Flash
-Gotham
-Bloodlines ( all fans of The Originals, Game of Thrones and Kindred the Embraced should check out this Supernatural spinoff which is a GREAT pilot but has nothing whatsoever to do with Supernatural--no wonder they didn't like it!)
-Forever (Ioan Gruffudd as an immortal medical examiner and we see the history of his long life through his cases. Does this make anyone other than me think of the Highlander tv series? And what's not to like with Ioan Gruffudd starring?)
I think Bloodlines would have done much better on its own; it is a GREAT pilot which has nothing whatsoever to do with Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI just wish The CW would do a number of 13 episode short runs for next year. That way they could keep The Tomorrow People, BATB, and StarCrossed and still do their pilot pickups -- the only one of the new pilots I will likely watch is The Flash.
ReplyDeleteWe should be getting some series pickups this time next week.
ReplyDeleteIt could be a good strategy if they had many shows that are doing good. Even through i watch all 3 shows you mentioned, they would be really stupid to renew them
ReplyDeleteAt least Forever got a positive mention this time but it still seems to barely be in contention at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm not. ABC already has Revenge and ordered The Club to series. I can't see ABC placing three 'rich people behaving badly' shows on their schedule.
ReplyDeleteNBC
ReplyDelete- If this network gives K. Heigl and D. Messing their own shows and Constantine doesn't make it I'll be pissed. However, I will not be surprised. This is NBC we're talking about after all.
- Kate Walsh's Bad Judge is the only NBC comedy of particular interest to me so I'm glad it's still in the mix.
CBS
- I'm willing to give the NCIS spinoff a shot as well as the Kevin Williamson drama but I'm not overly enthused about either. I have absolutely no interest in any other CBS drama pilots.
- CBS's comedy prospects hold no interest to me but HIMYD will probably catch a lot of eyes initially so a series order wouldn't be a shock.
ABC
- Yay! Forever finally got a mention. I'm not optimistic about a pickup but I'll cross my fingers.
- Warriors? The military medical drama? After Combat Hospital I'm surprised ABC is diving back in to this genre.
- I'm rooting for Agatha and Clementine because the Shonda Rimes thing and American Crime aren't for me. I'd root for Agent Carter because I would watch but I think that show would flop like a fish in a boat so I won't bother.
- ABC has lots of comedy pilots I'd be interested in: Galavant, Selfie, Saint Francis, and Anthony Anderson's pilot. A pickup for any of those would be okay with me.
FOX
- Everything on the drama side at FOX looks like a done deal so not much to say here. I'll check out Gotham, Backstrom, & Hieroglyph.
- No FOX comedies hold any interest for me.
The CW
- Flash and iZombie were the only two shows I was pulling for so I'm glad that's working out.
- I hope Bloodlines isn't picked up because that pilot was bland, generic genre fare. It wasn't horrible but nothing (and no one) stood out as being particularly good either.
- I'd check out The Messengers if it makes it but 'indifference' best describes my level of interest here.
NBC is hoping that States of Affairs is the next "Blacklist".
ReplyDeleteHa! I say, "Good luck with that, NBC." Katherine Heigl is not James Spader.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying BL is certain pickup but 'Nielson Viewers that are hard core SPN fans' could have changed the channel if BL was 'awful' resulting in a true ratings 'bomb' like Bitten (0.7, with a sizeable viewer drop in the second 'half hour') and yet the viewers didn't. The prior episode got only 0.9 despite Jody being regarded by many fans as a very good character.
ReplyDeleteUmm... 'Emily Owens' bombed almost out the gate; I may be mistaken but only Cult and Star Crossed premiered lower. I don't recall what TCD premiered.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Please this ep was not any where near as bad as Bitten and I watched that one all the way to the end also.
ReplyDeleteThe point I was trying to make is that Bitten had an fairly enormous Nielsen dropoff at the half - '400,000' IIRC - while BL's was in the more common +/- 20,000 range. A large dropoff would indicate more clearly that the Nielsen viewers disliked the episode enough to change channels.
ReplyDeleteI meant quality-wise, and critics loved Emily Owens, calling it Mean Girls meets Grey's Anatomy.
ReplyDeleteThat goes to show that 'critic's darlings' are not necessarily Nielsen viewer darlings and EOMD was not on long enough to become a sort of CW version of "The Good Wife" whose ratings didn't break any records but never exactly stunk like EO's did for the CW 'year' that EO premiered.
ReplyDeleteHow does that change the fact it was a good show?
ReplyDeleteagain, I'm not talking about ratings! LEARN TO READ!!!!!
ReplyDeletethe only thing that I didn't like was the love triangle.
ReplyDeleteYeah saw that comment as well, which makes zero sense. It sounds like Scandal to me except the lead character is in the CIA and she may not have an affair with the president.
ReplyDeleteI can read very well thank you ... no need to shout. Doesn't meant my reply is wrong. The ratings are what matters especially for freshman shows; critical acclaim rarely is sufficient to get a renewal.
ReplyDeleteSee above reply. You can't watch EOMD because it was cancelled and therefore any reply I could make pro or con about the watch-ability of show would be moot.
ReplyDeleteForever is one of the pilots I would most like to see go to series, but I am trying not to get my hopes up since it seems to have so little chance.
ReplyDeleteForever is at a disadvantage because the shows its competing against are owned by ABC studios and Forever is owned by Warner Brothers.
