    Ice re-forged under fire into two new Valyrian steel swords...
    Well that takes care of one sword from the title...


    Lords and ladies, Prince Oberyn Martell, The Red Viper!!
    He likes it his way... and one ought not sing Rains of Castamere around him!! XD


    So far we've seen three new faces and I will admit that they all killed it! The Dornish contingent was just perfect (despite some tweaking of the appearance etc) and the new Daario already seems like a vast improvement from the little I saw.


    - Jaime has received more gifts than ever before A Valyrian steel sword, a chance at Casterly Rock, a golden hand.. and yet he had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day!
    Gee, thank Cersei!


    - And then.... Thenns!
    I #%$&%^%&* hate Thenns too!
    Although Styr is one menacing sight!


    - Marbled Crows? Haave you met met Sam? XD
    I forgot how much I loathe Janos Slynt Ugh, but at least Maester Aemon still lives! Gotta love a man more than hundred years old who can still snark with the best of them1


    - My word!!
    Indeed.


    - Dunk gets some White Book love!!


    - Dunky to drunk!
    Glad to see Ser Dontos Hollard again!
    And... what a pretty necklace he gave Sansa!


    - I think Sandor and Arya'ss scenes are going to be quite fun this season!
    Needle makes it two swords... the title thus fulfilled,


    All in all one of the better premieres and episodes of the series I think!
    Solid from start to finish with so much awesome in it!
    Am incredible start to the new season!

    Loved some of the show's takes on scenes like Margaery and Brienne talking about the shadow that killed Renly. I didn't care for the Thenns at all, but it was nice to see a scene with just different groups of wildlings and no Jon Snow.

    The change in the timeline from the books makes Cersei look especially selfish, cruel, and downright mean when talking to Jaime.

    Loved Jaemi and Brienne discuss Sansa scene (love that dynamic)
    Love the Sansa and name day guy necklace scene
    Oh so mean Tywin and Cersei!
    And The Dornish people arrive (no wonder Cersie was worried about Myrcella! Yikes!)
    Jon Snow gets away with everything! (glad Amean still gets the last word)
    Me no likey these cannibal wildings (I know with my avatar I shouldn't be so judgmental)
    Trying to deal with the new Daario, but Grey Worm grows on me more and more!


    And I just can't wait for this wedding!

    So much to love in this episode.


    + The Martells are here, do not fuck with them. Tyrion trying to be a diplomat was fun to watch and I thought they explained the bitter history between the two families quite well - always hard to get all that backstory in the show.

    + Brienne and Margaery having a nice moment! Brienne and Jaime oh my heart those two.



    + Hints at just how out of control those dragons are going to get.


    + Jon talking about Robb


    + Sansa mourning her family but yay Dontos!


    + The Hound and Arya woah I love their show relationship even more than the books. GOT always takes odd pairings and makes comedy gold out of them but also there is something a lot darker happening with our young Stark.

    It was a good episode, but as a book reader, I am not too happy with the changes. Mostly about Jon's storyline and arc. He wasn't supposed to face judgment for his actions that early.

    My two cents:

    Ice, in its former glory. May your steel bring more luck to your new owners. What an iconic image of the forging.

    New Location spotted: Dreadfort And the final City we haven’t seen yet: Meereen

    In previous seasons you still could see the Stark Banner in the Winterfell location. Now more smoke.

    Tywin Lannister always looking out for his family. Very strange to see Jamie so cleaned up. But his armor still suits him. You go Jamie for defying your dad!

    The glorious Three Amigos! Bronn’s jokes FTW :D

    Enter Prince Oberyn Martell, aka. The Red Viper. Accompanied by his paramour Ellaria Sand.
    Looks like Littlefinger's gymnast fared well after her encounter with Podrick. Pedro Pascal
    will do just nice as The Red Viper. His stare after their goat joke conveyed to me: “You tiny little piece of Lannister sh*t.”

    Bronn seems to be very into the idea of “more girls”. When did Tyrion get so boring and mopey? :D

    That was a chilling scene when Oberyn tells the history of the Martells with the Lannisters.

    Good Drogon. Bad Drogon. Theses are their crucial years...good luck with that taming Dany! lol
    Great that they added the wind effect on Dany and her cloths when Drogon flew away.

    So this is the recast for Daario Naharis. Let’s see what he does in future episodes.

    Sansa and Shae, looking as happy than ever. ;) Thanks for the reminder Sansa, so every viewer knows again what happened at the Red Wedding. Ramin Djawadi had to play the sad Stark Theme there.

    This is baaaaad, VERY VERY BAD! Wondering how many viewers picked out Cersei's maiden/little bird.

    Pretty new hand for Jamie. But why does it have to be Qyburn, Why??! “Thank
    you for the help in the other matter.” What in Seven Hells is Cersei referring there to Qyburn?? We haven't seen Lancel since Blackwater, haven't we? I wonder how he is faring.

    Own of the episode: Jamie waving with his new hand.

    Cersei looks really happy to see Jamie again…NOT. Finally Jamie sees the true colors of his lover/sister.

    Ygritte really should him offed Jon right then and there. Sounds like Tormund has watched India Jones. #ThennsInsteadOfSnakes.

    The Night’s Watch Triumvirate. Janos Slynt (formerly Commander of the City Watch), Allister Thorne (how was your trip to King’s Landing?) and Maester Aemon.

    Queen of Thorns…perfect to see Dame Diana Rigg again. As well as Natalie Dormer. These
    locations (gardens etc.) they use for outside scenes are just marvelous.
    What a cut that was from the statue to Joffrey. Lol

    What a landscape. Ar first I thought these were clouds instead of the sea. Totally didn't catch the arm pointing the way to Meereen.

    Always Gold these scenes between Jamie and Brienne. Keepgood care of that necklace, Sansa!
    The last time Sansa looked so joyful was when she glamoured about Joffrey.

    The Hound and Arya really should have a spin-off series. Arya’s thought: Best way to murder Polliver. Thank God they haven’t recast Rory McCann as The Hound.

    This is Karma. After Arya is reunited wit Needle, she only has to hook up with Nymeria.
    Arya on a pony riding along the burning Riverlands. Glad that this show doesn’t only depict the glorious side.

    All in all a fantastic (maybe the best) season opener. From what I can suspect, next weeks will blow most people's minds. :D

    Somehow the voice of the Dornish contingent leader sounded familiar to me, Any ideas who that actor was?

    Jamie...only thinking about that one think he desires most...why can't he stay with Supper??! LOL

    Aemon acting as judge in King's Landing, or what else could he have done with his skill there?

    Nice scene transition there from Brienne & Jamie watching over Sansa to Dontos following her.

    Well spotted, at first I though the Title referred to the division of Ice.

    Really, really strong start. Though with GOT, I just had to give it a slightly lower ranking, since...well next episode, if the appearances aren't deceptive.

    A really good start of the season. It is so good to have Game of Thrones back!!

    Finally someone said no to Tywin, good on you Jaime! Let´s hope he learns to say no to that nasty sister of his aswell. His conversation with Brienne was brilliant ofcourse, let´s hope we get a little more of that next week.

    Jon always seemed a little to weak to me in the series, I like him better in the books. In this episode he seemed a little stronger, let´s hope that is a change that will last through the next many seasons.

    Awesome scene with Arya and the Hound. Love those two together (even more than in the books).

    And Oberyn is finally in Kings Landing. Very well acted ! Loved the introduction.

    Actually you have to go way back too see that wolf-pelt again. It isn't the size of a direwolf like Ghost. In the Pilot series before Ned executes the deserter you can see Theon holding the pelt (as sheath for Ice) and Ned draws the broad-sword out. In the recap right before the HBO logo appeared, they showed bits of that and Ned's execution.

    tt was just a great premiere!
    I watched a couple weeks ago and felt it was as good or better than the Season 2 premiere (the best IMO), but after watching it again last night (and again... and again in the morning) I think it is the best season premiere!


    Just so strong from beginning to end and filled with so many fan-favorite scenes, many of which are vital to the story the next few years!

    Took me a while to remember who they were. Yeah, Cersei didn't have a lot of scenes together with other people than Lannisters, Sansa or Small Council Members. I don't expect them to see the Kettlebacks, although they play some role later in the story.

    True, but I doubt they replaced Ed Skrein with Michael Huisman because he looked like Ed,. I assume they did it because he can act the part.


    I'm OK with it personally since Huisman actually looks more like Daario that Skein did, but I know some people demand continuity over just about anything else.

    I have a completely different version or real life people and fiction characters I watch. I do not apply my personal views in reality to Westros or Essos.


    I see it as within the world of GOT you are either victim or prey in most circumstances. I find Arya's transition from one role to the other not only fascinating but entertaining!


    Plus, I have always found the Hound to be one of the more entertaining characters in the series! He is a juxtaposition of brutality and benevolence in a very unexpected and unique way. Sandor is crude, lethal and viscous for sure, but not necessarily blood-thirsty or cruel. He has a code he lives by and is far more honest and far less cruel than many of the so-called knights that represent all that is good to many people.


    That is a large part of what makes their journey together so entertaining to me...
    Ayra, much like Sansa first did, originally looked at The Hound as a mindless and evil killer, but she has already begun to see he is much more than he appears to be at first glance.

    Loved it. Haven't ever really kept up with the show before, I saw the first two when they aired but then didn't catch up until it was over and after that didn't watch until season 3 was completed but this go around I can't wait 10 weeks but it's going to be painful!! I loved pretty much every scene. The prince from the beginning is super sexy haha I hope he sticks around. And the last scene was effing epic, Arya's face was chilling. Cannot wait for next week!

    I agree that Arya is worse than the Hound and I think that sucks. I just can't enjoy what they are doing to her at all. I know I am in the vast minority (or maybe even alone) and I don't care. It was clear that was comming and it doesn't diminish my hate for it one bit. That is how I feel and I unfortuately expect it to get even worse ... I think it's a shame.

    Well in GOT I make way for dark karma when I watch it, but if I'm honest I have personal lines that I don't like when they are crossed. (I can't stand Theon or Ramsey Snow at all). -But with characters like Arya, I do see a "justice" in it. I can relate to where she's coming from and I think DarqueMode is right in that most of the time it is a game of survival of fittest and one has to take it as entertainment to enjoy it.


    However, It's hard for me to make any real stance on anything without knowing what the ending will entail, because IMO that's what will make a statement about Martin's take on justice, existentialism, order, survival of the fittest in terms of either a natural [karmatic] cycle or humanities deservingness to come to exist at all!

    Thank you for your response and understanding of my position even if you disagree.

    I would just like to add that my attachment to the Stark kids doesn't stem from them being from a specific house at all (which is what you seem to think if I understand your post correctly; if I misunderstood your post then I genuinely apologize). I don't mind (nearly) every house having good (or at least better) and bad (or at least worse) apples at all, on the contrary.

    My attachment to the Stark kids stems from me getting to really know them and love them as individuals and family before anyone else on the show. It also stems from the show clearly writing them as the rooting family (at least at the beginning) with all their family code and lore and their direwolves. It stems from me getting to know them in their home (in their natural environment where they didn't have to pretend) and seeing them really happy without needing more land, men, money, power or anything else. It stems from loving their father (I never had much love for Catelyn) and their family before everything turned to shit. It stems from catching a fleeting glimpse of what could have been and missing that promise even if it long since turned to ashes ... It stems from them gradually losing everything they cared about and held dear without any fault of their own. It stems from them having to deal with so much shit and having to adapt to such horrible circumstances while still being so young.


    I came to feel for them because of all that and more and it pained me to see them suffer. So it really hurts that I can't root for Arya at all anymore ...

    You're right I did assume that you referring to specific house and thank you for clarifying your position. It's just I think the series starts with the Starks, because they generally are seen as a house of honor and goodness and I think it's one reason we follow the Stark children so closely (personally I would like see more of Myrcella and hope they don't skimp on one of her small plots, because she seems so kind and not very conniving compared to all of the other Lannisters, even though I like a lot of the Lannisters at different times for different reasons), but I think Ned loosing his head marks what Martin is trying to say about the brutality of the reality (or at least at this time period) followed by a Rob-redux. And so sheer goodness doesn't always win and/or it doesn't win when there is only small doses of it. I do think the Starks story comes off (especially in the show) way more tragic than some of the other families.


    I think Martin must prescribe to 'suffering is natures way of strengthening' mantra, because I think we see so so so much of it from so many characters.


    I hope sometime you'll be able to root for her again.

    I never liked the character much at all.


    I always considered him a bit of a buffoon- like a cross between a peacock and a vulture. All flamboyant and showy, a bit silly, but very efficient at his job. Worse yet, he somehow managed to make Dany's arc even less interesting in the books! XD

    I just never understood why Dany found him interesting and I agree with you, he is (one of the many) reason that Dany´s story is not as exciting in the books. So far I have liked her story a little better on screen, and I hope this season will keep her interesting.

    The problem is, this new Daario is completely bland. I know we didn't get to see much of him in episode 1, but he seems to be lacking a personality. You could say a lot of things about the first one, but he did have the required cockiness and arrogance. You could hate him, but at least he was memorable, whereas this one is just another beardy face. And yes, I do value continuity, especially after they traded the kick-ass, scary as hell Gregor Clegane from season 1 with that riddiculously long dude who looks more like a tree than like a mountain.
    And Dany's story is bound to be boring anyway :P

    I'm not a huge fan of the changes either. Last year when Jaime arrived I was confused but willing to give D&D the time to see if the change pays off.


    It may end up not having to do with paying off so much as they wanted to give each character something to and Brienne was going to have nothing for the season since they had her arrive at KL last year.


    For now I'm waitign to see how it goes, but IT does confuse me and woory me a bit.

    The Jon theory would be a great twist if everyone wasn't already expecting it lol if I was Martin I would change it so that the fans who think they already know everything would be proven wrong :P besides, Jon's parentage might turn out completely unimportant if he ends up being nothing more than a wolf ;)
