THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
“While You Were Sleeping” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

A KILLER VIRUS — When Stefan (Paul Wesley) tries to explain recent events to a very sick Elena (Nina Dobrev), her first instinct is to call Damon (Ian Somerhalder). At the same time, Damon is trying to figure out how to make a disturbing confession to Elena. While going through Dr. Wes’ files, Caroline (Candice Accola) discovers a frightening secret, and is surprised when Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey) appears, claiming to have the solution everyone is searching for. At Enzo’s insistence, Caroline asks Stefan to meet her at a mysterious location where they are joined by a group of Travelers, including Sloan (guest star Caitlin McHugh), who reveals new information on the importance of doppelgangers. During spring break on a mostly deserted Whitmore campus, Elena runs into Luke (guest star Chris Brochu), a student who seems to know her, though she has no memory of meeting him. Recently dumped by his boyfriend, Luke proposes that he and Elena spend the break getting drunk together, but she sends him off on an urgent mission to find Bonnie (Kat Graham) and the “newbie” witch, Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell). Damon finally tells Elena the truth about his recent activities, and they come to a new agreement about their relationship. Pascal Verschooris directed the episode written by Caroline Dries (#516).

  1. Woah, seems to be a lot going on

  2. There's no way it's already spring. Do they mean winter break on campus?

  3. Hope the think Damon struggles with to tell Elena is that he almost killed Jeremy, because that was by far the worst thing he did while she was gone

  4. Well, finally. I guess we'll at least find out what the Travelers want with the doppelgangers.

Spring Break? When did winter happen?

Elena sends some stranger to look for Bonnie? Why can't she look for Bonnie herself?

  5. Got a feeling Elena and Damon will feed on each other and so keep their sanity.
I can't wait for the new doppelganger.

  6. By far? I'd say the vicious murder of Aaron Whitmore deserves some consideration as a close second.

  7. Spring break at most US universities is around a week in duration at the beginning to middle of March.

    ReplyDelete
  8. But it's already March in terms of the show's timeline? I find that hard to believe.

  9. I find it hard to believe that Jeremy hasn't been expelled from school since it seems like he hasn't been there since the fall but there are always things about TVD that require suspending our disbelief.

  10. - I think Enzo is full of crap. He doesn't have a cure.
    - There is no good way to tell Elena all the crap he's pulled lately. Tell the truth and suck it up.
    - Why would someone send a person they don't remember meeting before after a close friend?
    - I guess Enzo sets a trap for Stefan then? I wonder what Enzo is getting out of all of this?
    - Could TVD be any more obvious about Liv being shady by putting the word newbie in quotes.
    - New agreement about their relationship? I'm sure more people will be up in arms about that after the episode airs. Some people won't be satisfied until those two commit a murder-suicide and prove once and for all how horrible they are.

  11. "Elena sends some stranger to look for Bonnie? Why can't she look for Bonnie herself?"
That makes no sense to me either. I guess the need to argue with and yell at Damon somehow justifies entrusting a complete stranger (who could be anyone) with tracking down her best friend.

  12. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Damon and Elena will have to keep each other's viruses under control. It was said that nothing about their relationship would be clear-cut. I think it'll be hard to tell how much about their relationship is related to the virus.

  13. It looks like certain online articles were wrong about who would be interested in doppelgangers and why. Those articles also said that Luke was supposed to show up after WINTER break. I think we're looking at a time jump, which has been known to happen in TV. I recall a show back in the 1980s that skipped ahead five years and only showed it by having a character go from being a baby to being a five-year-old. I'm not sure at this point if it's true that Luke is Liv's brother. That was an assumption even I made based on an article that has lost credibility for me. Elena is behaving strangely, so if she realizes there's a problem and Luke is the only person around who she's known for more than five minutes, I can see her getting desperate and sending him to get help. Elena might send him to find Bonnie and Liv because Elena might think that a witch could solve her problem, whatever that may be.

  14. Both are equally terrible. If Elena is too quick to forgive, then people will know immediately that something is wrong.

  15. Finally, some light is shed on a couple of mysteries. So it isn't Luke who is a danger to doppelgangers due to wild theories about doppelganger blood. The threat is Sloan. Obviously Elena does agree to get drunk with Luke for a while before sending him on an "urgent mission," since we saw her drunk in the promo. That proves that she's a little off since Luke is obviously up to something, even if he isn't exactly dangerous. Enzo probably doesn't have a cure, and Stefan might fall under attack because there are no other doppelgangers that can be used for whatever purpose the Travelers want them for. Hence the later search for the new doppelganger. This might be where Jeremy and Liv come in. They are supposed to try something that will end up hurting Elena. Since Liv will have information about what the Travelers are planning, it's fair to say that Liv and Jeremy will know about the new doppelganger too. Another possibility is that Liv knows a spell that could render the virus harmless to Elena, but whatever deal Jeremy makes will probably hurt Elena in other ways.

  16. I thought the Bitter Ball matched with Valentine's Day but in 5x11 Rebekah said she'd only been gone for three months since she had left Matt. Rebekah took off in August (when college was starting) so that should have been November.

Iam so excited to see wat the next big dark secret is! I was thinking now that Dr. Jackal is dead they have free reign to his equipment & studies ...maybe they'll stumble upon a diarie of some sort which helps cure Damon & now Elena's incessant need to rip out!¿ winters gone spring is here college spring break starts beginning of March...geez lol. I'm happy to see another season successfully gradually come to an inevitable end yet one more down means there can't be too many more left rite? Yeah desperate housewives did a 5 yr time jump in like season 4-5 didn't particularly care for all that ...id hate to have missed time like that on #TVD idk if TVD is right for something like that being that there's a constant crisis in mystic falls lol good theory though. Thinking outside the box I like it!

  24. If this Damon and Elena agreement doesn't involve her dumping him for good, her character will get even more destroyed than it already is. I think the writers are smoking something, because except for the few Delena fans left, the vast majority of the fandom is fed up and angry at that relationship. It's turning a lot of people off the show, me included.

  25. The fact that they won 'Best Chemistry' when since the season began (an in my opinion during mid S4) they are nothing but awkward together, tells you were in a minority. Paul and Nina have had more sizzle than D/E.
I think the power of shippers is a lot stronger on this show than the minority who want consistency and story.

  26. I don't know why, but I think Liv positioned herself near Bonnie because she has a problem with either Bonnie or Elena. I don't know what she wants Jeremy for, but apparently it's going to end up hurting Elena, and suddenly Liv knows how to do magic as well as Bonnie. There could be a traveler in Liv's body, but I don't know why one would want to hurt Bonnie or Elena. One name comes to mind, but I'm pretty sure she's dead. Maybe whatever Luke tells Bonnie about his family in Episode 17 will shed some light on Liv's motives. I'm more interested in how exactly Luke is supposed to know Elena. Maybe he stumbled onto her spirit and kept her safe until Katherine was killed? Elena probably wouldn't remember what happened after she went non-corporeal. Bonnie and Jeremy don't remember conversations they had when they were actually dead. That's really the only thing they have in common, besides the fact that they care about Elena. Bonnie and Jeremy's relationship is supposed to develop issues that they've had before, so I'm not surprised that Jeremy has another opportunity to cheat on Bonnie.

  27. I think they jut gather up for these votings, like BATB/PCA (which has abysmal ratings) fans do. But truth is they're a very minimal part of viewership and what most of viewers do think about the show.

    ReplyDelete
  28. But they have an impact on the writers and the show. I know such polls can be voted multiple times by a person, that's what I mean by the show completely in shippers hands. I have even seen JP and CD go on twitter and feed shippers scraps about an episode just so they will tune in, they don't care about criticism and death threats online. As far as they are concerned its more publicity for the show.

Kat won't be back anytime soon. Caroline Dries said her death is pretty final..
But i wouldn't rule out the possibility that we'll see her again someday.. maybe at the very end of TVD ..

Maybe Luke just thinks he knows Elena but actually he knows another Doppelganger
