All scenes on the freighter
ReplyDeletehow is the huge fight sequence not a possibility ? 'other' it is, then
ReplyDeleteFor me the best one was when Slade hears the truth and my next one is not in the list when Slade called Oliver his brother. My heart just broke for them.
ReplyDeleteTeam Arrow to the rescue...followed by Slade pulling Oliver back on the ship.
ReplyDeleteEntire episode! I vote for entire episode!
ReplyDeleteTeam Arrow gears up to save Ollie - it was the first time we saw the entire team work together without Ollie, who is by default the leader, so there was something special about it. I liked how Oliver figured out how to alert them to what was going on without taking his eyes off Slade, and how they immediately put together a plan.
ReplyDeleteTeam Arrow infiltrates the Queen mansion - Sara doing parkour (so cool!) and a seriously crazy level of tension, especially when Oliver asked Slade "What would you like to do now?". That moment when Slade looks at Oliver, then Sara, then Roy and coolly weighs his options before leaving... it's a good thing it ended quickly because I couldn't hold my breath much longer.
Other - the entire freighter sequence - WOW at the production values. They weren't kidding when they said it was the biggest production they've ever done. And Slade was incredibly terrifying.
That moment when Oliver tries to jump off the ship, but Slade grabs his leg and throws him back on board was terrifying. It was like "Oh no... I'm just getting started with you, kiddo." While I find the motivation for Slade's villainy incredibly lame, I have to admit, he does effectively scare the beejezus out of me (which Malcolm didn't). And Manu is killing it.
ReplyDeleteThe two best scenes are not even an option, when slade tells oliver the promise and the ending with slade looking at the cameras eye-patchless.
ReplyDeleteAgreed...I guess the idea of an enemy who can throw you around like a child is terrifying in itself. Add to this the dark voice and the performance...*shudder*
ReplyDeleteI was hoping and praying to all tv gods that the reason for Slade's anger towards Oliver was more than the death of Shado. It always feel lame when two guys have a fall out over a girl. I agree with you. I like Slade so much better than Malcolm. Slade scares me. Malcolm even though defeated Oliver never felt unbeatable. But Slade... how would they defeat him?
ReplyDeleteTeam Arrow infiltrates the Queen Mansion!! That was my favorite scene hands down. Also voted for Ivo tricks Ollie while Slade listens in. And lastly iI picked OTHER....When Slade grabs Ollie's foot in midair as he jumps off the freighter and throws him back on by his foot with one freaking hand!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed with Everything u said. They sure weren't kidding. Job definitely well done. And right??? That whole scene with them at the mansion and Slade looking at his whole team, and the looks Sara was giving him. I held my breath through the entire thing. That was great. And seriously Slade should just get a glass eye, Cuz eww. Lol
ReplyDeleteNot only is it merely over a girl, but it's clear Oliver didn't even choose Sara over her - that was just Ivo twisting everything around to try to save his own ass. That A) Oliver didn't tell Slade the truth himself (of course leading to it coming out in the worst possible way), B) Oliver didn't try to correct Ivo's twisted version of events when Slade DID hear the truth, and C) Slade bought Ivo's manipulation hook, line, and sinker is just lazy writing. If Shado's death had to be the motivation for Slade's vengeance crusade, the writers should've at least crafted a situation where Oliver did carry some responsibility for it. It's not like they couldn't sully their pure, innocent hero considering Oliver is far from that anyway.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, I was hoping for a better motivation... I actually thought we would see Oliver shooting Slade's eye out in this episode. If that happened before Slade swore his vengeance, it could've at least added some major fuel to the fire. But... no. *sigh* The way things played out in this episode to have Slade find out how Shado died and turn on Oliver was extremely predictable and disappointing, and even considering how well-acted it all was (have I mentioned Manu is a freaking boss?), it was about the only thing that turned me off the episode. Everything else was awesome.
You know, a lot of people say Caity's acting is awful. I think she does kinda need to work on her line deliveries, BUT her facial expressions and body language are really good. The way Sara looked at Slade during that moment at the mansion was this awesome mixture of a sneer, understandable fear/tension, and daring Slade to make the first move/being prepared for a fight. Imagine Slade taking all 3 of them on. And apparently we're gonna see that, because in the end of the super-trailer they released a couple of days ago, we see all 3 (with Ollie and Sara suited up and of course a hoodied Roy) circling Slade before Ollie puts an arrow in his chest. My god, this is going to be SO fucking good! When this season is over I think I might cry into my pillow for like a hour. LOL.
ReplyDeleteExactly my point. I truly believed something else other than the truth about Shado coming out from Ivo caused Slade to pledge revenge on Oliver. I thought they come to blow at something else and Oliver shoot arrow into Slade's eye which was the culminating point for Slade.
ReplyDeleteNow I am not even sure Oliver put an arrow into Slade's eye. Oliver mentioned burning the last person with mirakuru in them. So it must be Slade. In this episode Ivo was going to harvest an eye from Anatoli. Someone in the internet was speculating Slade volunteered and gave Ivo his eye for research. My main issue with mirakuru making Slade and Roy crazy is the fact that they actually don't act crazy but like people with anger issues. Slade has too much discipline to be called crazy. After all he meticulously planned an attack towards Oliver. If he was really crazy he would have gone on a violent rampage immediately after hearing the truth. If it was not Manu Bennett acting as Slade it would not have been this convincing.
Another thing baffling me this half of the season is where are they going with Sara. Do they want us to like her or dislike her. Up to LoA I liked Sara immensely. She was some one forced into difficult situations and came out of it and became a her. Now in the island scenes we see her pushing Oliver to keep secrets from Slade and to execute Ivo. She has been torturing all those men for one year. I wouldn't have minded her asking Oliver to kill Ivo if she showed some feelings or fear while doing it. But she came off as cold and calculating. Oliver for all his faults has always shown compassion even in the island. He went back for Yao fei last season knowing he would loose his chance of getting off the island. I could always sympathize with Oliver even though he was selfish. But with Sara its getting very difficult liking her as her role is increasing.
the whole 42 mins was pretty epic so its hard to choice
ReplyDeleteYeah, someone pointed out that Slade's Mirakuru-inflicted craziness seems to come and go when it's convenient. He's nuts enough that he swore eternal vengeance on Ollie for something that is seriously not even his fault, and is still pursuing it 5 years later... but he's still perfectly restrained and doesn't take the gold opportunity to kill Oliver's mother and sister before his eyes (which would be quite enough for revenge if you ask me) because he's got an even bigger, more elaborate plan.
ReplyDeleteI can give them a pass on Roy not being crazy, just angrier/more emotional, because maybe after years of development the Mirakuru was perfected and doesn't affect your mental state as severely as it did when Slade was injected with it. But not on the inconsistency of Slade's "craziness", or the fact that it's a lame way to get him to become Oliver's arch-nemesis in the first place.
I also didn't like that Sara egged Oliver on to kill Ivo... wasn't it a few days before that she was defending him to Oliver by pointing out that Ivo taught her useful things and isn't just pure evil? I agree that she should've showed some apprehension, regret or whatever when saying it. Better yet, volunteer to do it herself instead of leaving the dirty work to Ollie. I could understand if her relationship with Ivo was exactly the reason she couldn't do it herself, but in that case she should've said so, and apologized to Oliver for putting that burden on his shoulders instead of hers. Lying to Slade was obviously a stupid-ass idea and I'm sick of this show relying on people stupidly lying to each other about stuff that's OBVIOUSLY going to come out, so that heaps of drama can occur later when it does. I'm not sure if the guy who tried to throttle Sara claimed she tortured them herself or just that she let Ivo do it, being that she was apparently his pet on the ship, but since Ivo sent her to interrogate Oliver ("prisoners don't get to speak") maybe you're right.
Overall, I do think my enthusiasm about Sara's character has worn off somewhat... I'm still pissed at all the hate she gets (and think a lot of it has to do with Olicity rather than Sara herself), but she was much cooler in the beginning. Right now I'm partial to the idea of her forming the BoP with Huntress, going off on her own adventures and popping into Starling on occasion to help Team Arrow out, as opposed to staying on the show full-time. Some characters need to be used sparingly and aren't as cool and enjoyable if they're around all the time.
I'm wondering if they will shuffle some of Arrows giant cast over to Flash....for example Laurel could decide that she wants a new start and therefore goes to the city where her mother lives now. This would have the advantage that they have the actors available if they need them for Arrow, but don't need to have them around all the time.
ReplyDeleteI think what should be remembered about Sara is the girl was barely 20 years old when she was first rescued by Amazo and 21 on the island. She was just a kid and I think she was ashamed of what she became during that year too, thus asking Oliver that if something happens to her, to tell her family she died on the Gambit.
ReplyDeleteSara didn't spend that year with friends like Oliver, Shado, and Slade did (and they had 5 months of freedom together on the island after killing Fyers till this season started.) She watched Ivo torture the men on the ship, knew he would do this to her too if she betrayed him and had no where to go so she played along and probably lost a part of herself in the process.
Slade is much older than Roy and has the training of a soldier. He is consumed by his anger too due to the Mirakuru but is still strong enough to consume it and execute his revenge according to plan.
ReplyDeleteThe problem, as I indicated, is that the Mirakuru's effect on Slade is very selective according to the needs of the plot. He's unhinged enough that he not only blames Oliver for Shado's death, but swore to put Oliver through a living hell, destroy every single person he loves, etc etc, when Shado's death isn't even really Oliver's fault, yet he's restrained enough to put together a complicated and meticulous plan and execute it. It's too convenient. If Slade is still sane and rational to some degree, he should be able to understand that Oliver didn't get Shado killed, rather than hate him to the degree where he devotes his entire life to making Oliver suffer.
ReplyDeleteFlash already has cast 7 actors. I don't think they are planning to transfer characters from Arrow. Some over lapping story line may occur. Also Flash is expecting to have lot of new viewers as Flash is more popular than GA in comic world. If they take characters from Arrow they will have to spend time explaining their history.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is not with her decision of killing Ivo. Its with the way she asked Oliver to do it as if she is talking about weather conditions. Oliver last season was a killing machine with no regret but when he dealt with his loved ones he always showed emotion. That was after 5 years in the island. God knows what all he went through in the next 3 years of island story. Sara after just one year is asking Oliver whom she loved (or thought) to kill some one. I would expect some emotion from her. At least if she had shown some intense fear I could understand.
