My guess is that it will be a mix. I doubt we see dramas in all those 3 hours but I also doubt FOX will replace the directly with another 3 hours of reality. There is also the issue that Glee probably cannot keep a regular season midweek timeslot which would open up a 4th midweek hour though
The Voice is BY FAR, the highest rated non sports show to air on NBC and one of the highest rated shows on television in general. Why should it be anywhere near cancellation?
Ah, I thought you were speaking from a ratings standpoint. Well, I am personally not a big fan of reality shows, but I completely love the voice, I have been totally converted to it. It's the only singing competition I watch.
Utopia has to go somewhere all season (and summer!). I'm thinking that somewhere is Thursday, although there'd need to be "special night" episodes on Thanksgiving week and for baseball (which will be doable because FOX will be awash with reruns in those weeks).
I'm thinking two slots go to scripted limited series.
I sampled the first season, and the show felt like it was just geared to stroke Simon C's ego at ;east in the first few eps..... I quickly got tired of it. Looking forward to seeing what will replace it....
3 hours freed up. This could bode very well, or we could just end up getting yet more reality drivel (Except Big Brother. Never Big Brother. I love it!, don't say bad things, not listening, lalalalalalalalala)
Good news in my book. Although maybe not. Big Brother is the ONLY reality show I watch. But, if its from the same creators, I'll give it a shot. Big Brother to me is a guilty pleasure. Not sure if there is room in my life for two. Thanks for the info though, I was not aware of that.
Why do you assume that Utopia will air the entire season? I am not familiar with the format so probably you know something I don't. Can't they record it and air it like CBS does with Survivor?
Utopia took over Holland for one week, but those ratings (and all the buzz around it) dropped fast. :p I'm sure the American culture is not comparable though. We're such a small, densely populated country!
As it stands in the original format, the show has a 24/7 live stream (just as BB did) and there's a televised recap on a slight delay (about a week, if memory serves, which did cause some controversy in the Netherlands).
I suppose that also means that Utopia could transition to a web-only series if that's what suits FOX at any point.
Exactly how FOX does it is a very, very open question, but I understand they specifically sought a location not on the West Coast because of the greater seasonal variation, and that sure hints at it running for most or all of the year to me.
I hear you about the location, I am just saying that it could easily mean that it will be recorded the entire year, which is not the same as running on TV the entire year.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
so this mean they are going to air series on those 2 hours slot? or another Competition?
ReplyDeleteAnd nothing of significance was lost.
ReplyDeleteFox will probably announce what they are putting in its place during Upfronts in May.When they have their schedule set for Fall 2014.
ReplyDeleteIt opens up 3 hours in Fall could go scripted or could go to another reality shows like Utopia
ReplyDeleteyay!
ReplyDeletegood
ReplyDeletenot surprised....next up should be the voice

ReplyDeleteI HIGHLY doubt that will happen.
ReplyDeletei know but dont like it lol
ReplyDeleteGood! Cheryl Cole was robbed. Watched Cheryl's episode and gave up when she left.

ReplyDeletethe less reality TV is on the air the better, replacing this show with scripted television could be the best decision FOX has made in years
ReplyDeleteNot upset about this. FOX only needs ONE singing competition that takes up two entire nights.

I love the voice too! Especially because Usher and Shakira will be back for season 6! Cee Lo is getting too bitchy lately. Whoops, totally rambling :D

ReplyDeleteScripted television is expensive however....

ReplyDeleteWell their new reality show utopia is from the creator of big brother
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read the Simon went back to the UK version, I knew this was coming.

ReplyDeleteLol voice is the stroke of judges. Idol helped make a few great stars at least. No one can name 90% of Voices winners.
