It was great seeing Kevin and his mother again. Love her! Line of the night. "And you the worst part? I wasn't even allowed to kill anyone. I was told to protect them. I mean how SICK is that? Am i not a young vital demon with basic demon needs and right?!" Lmao. I laughed so hard at that.
I found this episode boring. It was like watching two separate shows at once and I didn't care for either. I still don't get all the angel crap and the more I see of it, the more bored of it I'm getting. I personally think that the writers have just kept this angel crap going so that Castiel will still have some reason to be on the show. I love Castiel, but I don't care about his separate story. I'm really looking forward to next week because finally The Ghostfacers.
Dean was about to say something to Sam and Sam took off for his room. So all Dean could do is retreat to his. I miss the weapons on the wall. It doesn't look like his room anymore.
This episode was a tad slow, but I felt like it respectfully resolved Kevin's death (although I still want him to come back...I hope he's not gone for good) and I'm thrilled Linda is still alive. I wish we'd seen more of her learning about Kevin. Lauren Tom gave a beautiful performance in this episode. She lit up every scene she had.
I liked Dean using music as an escape, instead of drinking.
I liked that Sam was shown as needing to process and learn, and that it isn't all just on Dean. I wish they'd become close again, but I'm glad that it isn't one-sided now.
I wish we'd heard about the mark of Cain.
Cas' scenes were initially very slow, but once he was faced with torturing the angel, everything amped up. Misha and the guy who played Bartholomew (Adam Harrington) were great, and as a Cas fan, I appreciated seeing Cas refuse to go back to torture, even if it cost him his life. Cas killing him, and inspiring some of the other angels to follow him...I know this likely will not end well, but I love the idea of Cas inspiring and Cas leading, Cas hopefully showing some of these angels the way, and the angels not just being treated as unstable fodder, as they have for a long time now.
The Kevin/Mrs Tran scenes were so emotional. And seeing the brothers retreat to their rooms was sad, but I'm glad that Dean is giving Sam his space. I like badass Cas so him being a fearless leader himself is actually pretty cool for me.
This is the first time this year I have voted because I don't like voting below good. I really enjoyed most of this episode... Seeing Kevin again made me get all emotional. The angel stuff was distracting, but it was good getting Mrs Tran back and giving Kevin one last wish...
This episode is kinda weird.... The Kevin part is really good, finally Mrs.Tran was not used as comic relief but the character she was supposed to be. In the episode she was introduced, she was clever enough to deduce the pawnshop owner didn't paid the tax of his expensive car, and used that as leverage to force him to talk. But at the next episode she was written as some dumb housewife who hire a witch off cragslist. This time finally she show her intelligence on hacking electronic door. I really hope they bring Kevin back so they have a happy ending. Not sure if Kevin's father would be brought up in the future, Crowley said he was scandalous, and Mrs.Tran mention it again this episode, maybe we can hope for a future development on that? Only nitpick on this part, is that the fact that Mrs.Tran was alive, once again make Dean a total hypocrite. He said kevin is his family, but when there are lead that Mrs. Tran was alive, he stopped Kevin to find his family, I get that Crowley's word is not trustworthy, but again he could've put out words in hunter circle to see if anybody heard anything. That speech he gave about being family with Kevin just seem like because they could use kevin's help, so they had to say anything to pacify him to keep working for them.If Dean were to investigate when they heard Mrs.Tran was alive, She might be rescued earlier and save her from more torturing.
Now come the really weird part, Cas's storyline. Cas's hug with bert was so forced, the writers thought they were so clever to throw in that so audience would gasp "omg, they're friends? they've been working tgt?", but it totally wasn't! the next scene they were already arguing about ideology. There's absolutely no reason for Cas to hug him besides to surprise the audience. He didn't even hug Dean and Sam back when they hug him. Also, no matter how friendly bert act like, did cas really forget he sent reapers after him not long ago? which actually killed him! Everyone's been flipfloping, Cas hugging a guy's tried to kill him, Bert saying he didn't want to kill Cas despite he totally did send reaper after him,Cas said he didn't want to kill angels but when bert attack him the second time he's just "fxck it", kill this bastard. Cas have upper hand over the fight, he didn't have to kill bert if he didn't want to. And the angels saw Cas said he wouldn't kill angel again moments ago, then killed bert, and they would think Cas had shown them another way? it's killing angel, that's as same as what bert and marlachi has been doing.
downvote me all you want for pointing out the obvious problems, I didn't think it's a bad episode, I quite enjoyed it, but unlike some people I like this show but I don't think it's perfect and nothing can be criticize. and no need to say things like "you are not a real fan of the show/ you don't deserve to be a fan", if only a fan can watch this show , then this show is in serious trouble. if you want to say "why are you even watching this show?", then I'll have to ask you " why are you even reading this comment?"
I really did like dean listening to music instead of drinking. Jensen does such an amazing job of conveying dean's emotions in even that simple act. I also love Sam stopping at his door, hesitating, and really seeming torn for a second. AND, I wonder how many noticed his expressions when he started to lie to Ms Tran. I think he might have understood a little more about why Dean lied to protect those he cared about. He backtracked afterwards and admitted, but it seems he might have realized something there.
The angels stuff was simply boring; I doubt anyone cares about them and there's nothing to comment about. If it had been a demon politics instead of angels,n it would have been far more intriguing than the righteous angel twits.
The Mrs Tran / Kevin stuff was thrown in to fill out the episode, but I'm must be cold-hearted for I really wasn't moved by her and Kevin at all. I get that Kevin has been unfortunate in being chosen as a prophet but he hasn't suffered like the brothers have , so I don't particularly sympathise. x
The brothers are as always the most interesting part of the show, but they are being ever more pushed into the background, which is so silly as they are the driving force. I'm glad it was Dean who was knocked out this time,as Sam must be brain-damaged beyond repair from all the times he has been clonked on the noggin! x
Really, that's all there was to this ep.
Berens has regressed the brothers to moody little teens who go off to their rooms and listen to music and brood. Where are kick -ass, we'd die for each other, Sam and Dean? Oh, right. They disappeared at the beginning off season eight when incompetents took over the show! I gave the ep poor.
The thing is, as I saw in a meta somewhere, Sam and Dean never really got to be teenagers. Dean was Sam's father and mother, not his older brother. He never got to go brood and listen to music in his room. I feel like they sort of need this.
I felt like Linda's story needed to be resolved, moreso than just being filler.
I care about the angels...not as much as I did in season 4, but I think when they get Cas right, the story works.
I do want to see more of Dean and Sam being close, so we agree there.
Cas hugged him because Bartholomew could kill him at any second and he was trying to work with Bartholomew to avoid that and get him on the right path. I don't think he really saw Bartholomew as a friend.
Bartholomew had sent the reaper to capture Cas, not kill him.
Cas have upper hand over the fight, he didn't have to kill bert if he didn't want to. And the angels saw Cas said he wouldn't kill angel again moments ago, then killed bert, and they would think Cas had shown them another way?
Cas killed him after he repeatedly tried to kill Cas. It wasn't something Cas wanted to do. Cas is an iron fist in a velvet glove, as the saying goes.
Are you serious Dean? use a coffee maker to communicate with a ghost? That's what our master hunter can think of? what about something started with an "O", and was used on season 2 episode one, and common known by layman for its usage on communicating with ghosts? right, a ouija board. don't tell me there are no ouija boards in mol bunker or in the possession of hunters. This is another example of how writers forgo reality and the intelligence of characters just for mere comic relief.
Ouija boards involve having to speak through someone or have long, confusing conversations with one letter to another. I thought using that device to listen to the woman talk was an interesting way to go about it. Dean has been using gadgets and gizmos from the start of the show.
1. the fact that Mrs.Tran was alive, once again make Dean a total hypocrite.
Yes, Dean is a hypocrite, but that just makes the character more real for me. He screws up. And he owns it.
IMO the episodes are dumbed down, unexciting. It's like watching the show through a fog. The angel story-line is absolutely boring. None of them have a personality. In the past the angels like Anna, Zachariah, Raphael, Balthazar etc, were rounded-out appealing characters, far above Bartholomew and his crew of faceless followers. The writers aren't taking the care and time to make them in the least interesting. X I don't agree about the brothers going to their rooms and brooding. In the past Dean would go to a bar, pick a fight, find a girl to pass the night with or take a run in the Impala with the music at full blast; that's more in his style than taking to his room like a teen. It's more in character for Sam to retreat to his room and read, though in the past he would have stayed and gotten into an emo- talk with Dean, instead of leaving like he did.. x Just a word about Castiel; when do they get him 'right'? You see, I don't think he has a basic characterization at all. Is he good, evil, loyal, a traitor, a fool, a leader, a follower? What? He's just there. He appears in the episodes but he has no true purpose or scope, IMO.
Castiel's story seems to be all over the place this season. Just thank God he got rid of that boring "villain" Bartholomew. Oh and props to Kevin for saying what I've been wanting to say to Sam and Dean this whole time. I'm all for character development and Sam expressing where Dean went wrong, but goddamn just speak your mind already. I thought with the last episode they were finally moving forward by just getting it out there. This whole moody storming off and not talking to each other thing is just juvenile and freaking ridiculous. They just need the old classic lock them in a room until they figure things out. Seriously, I felt sorry for both of them, but now I just want to slap the hell out of them.
Dean never had a childhood, so he's prone to embracing the little things like LARPing or obsessing over a giant slinky. It's his way having a childhood.
In the past Dean would go to a bar, pick a fight, find a girl to pass the night with or take a run in the Impala with the music at full blast; that's more in his style than taking to his room like a teen.
I don't think Dean's done any of this in a long time. In many seasons he's just drank until he passed out. I think after the last drinking jag, a few episodes ago, he's trying to cut back, so he's just focusing on music.
When do they get Cas right? I'd say episodes like tonight. Cas' characterization, when it's done right, is a compassionate, kind angel, a strategist with a ruthless streak, who will mess you up if you don't get out of his way.
I agree about the angels, although I blame Zachariah for ruining them - I felt like there was way too much of him and he gave them a stench of toxicity they hadn't had before.
I wish they had more interesting angel characters. They did, to me anyway, with Naomi and Samandriel, and this season, with Ephraim and Hael, so they can do it if they try. They just don't try enough.
I thought this episode was just okay. It was nothing to write home about, IMO.
As usual, I found myself slightly bored and slightly tuned out of the Castiel scenes. I am not sure why, but for some reason, I always feel an episode loses momentum when the story shifts to Castiel. I don’t know why I ALWAYS feel that way, but I do. I like Castiel, but his plots just drag down an episode, IMO. I wasn’t paying too much attn to what was happening, but I wasn’t sad to see Bart go. That guy was a jerk. There was not much very likeable about him.
It was nice that the boys freed Mrs. Tran, and that Kevin can be w/his mother while he waits for Heaven to “re-open” or whatever. I liked Kevin so I am happy for him in that sense.
The boys are in such an awful place. Again, I left the episode wondering why Sam is still there. Listen, I am not saying Sam shouldn't be angry, but I do not understand why Sam is currently still with Dean in the bunker. That makes no sense to me, esp. if they are not speaking. It's just really weird. Why does he want to hunt w/Dean? Are we supposed to believe that the brothers go on hunts together and then go to their separate rooms and never speak to each other? Is that’s what happening? If that’s the case, why don’t they just split up and hunt separately?
Talk about immature! That has to be the most immature, silly thing I’ve ever seen on this show. Many have accused Sam of being immature when he leaves, but I find that much more mature than what I saw last night. Leave, clear your mind, reflect on the situation, and then return when you're ready to address the issue. That makes sense to me.
So, I still ask why Sam is sticking around. I don't get it.
The way the brothers are acting is without doubt completely OOC. x At the beginning Sam rushes out of his room, ( which is far from Dean's by the way. Wouldn't it be better if they were next door to each other if trouble arises? However! ) to go and see if Dean's okay, just as he did in the last episode when Dean was knocked out; actions which I find to be in contrast with the whole, "I'm angry with you Dean" story-line. x I agree that it would be far more mature for Sam to go off on his own to think about things, far from Dean. x Why is Sam still hanging out with his brother? Who knows! The writers obviously don't think it's important enough to share with the viewers. They want it both ways, keep the brothers together yet keep this false bro-angst going at the same time, and the whole thing just comes over as depressing and illogical. x I'm even beginning to dislike the bunker. It has brought nothing fresh to the show, and gives the brothers an excuse to stay apart whereas in the motel rooms they had nowhere to run, and maybe by this time they would have ironed things out, punched each other up and gotten things out of their system!
Honestly, Isle, I wish Dean would pack his stuff and tell Sam he's going on some solo hunts and to call if Sam needs him or anything. I see NO reason these two are together at this moment when things are so fractured btw them that Sam cannot speak to Dean unless it's related to a hunt. If he's that angry and upset w/Dean, I'm not sure how stewing in his room will resolve that . . .IF the goal is to eventually reconcile.
As you said, they are together b/c the script calls for it. In reality, someone would have left by now.
And, again, I am NOT saying Sam shouldn't be angry or that he must stop being angry when Dean wants. I hated that about the psychic episode in S7. I am saying that I personally feel the writers mishandled Sam's POV (when they finally got to it) and made it seem like Sam was rejecting everything about Dean. That was OTT and a huge problem for this bi-bro fan. For that reason, they've made it nearly impossible for me to see a way back for the brothers. Given the things Sam said to him, I'm not sure what response would be appropriate from Dean. "Yes, Sam, you're right. I am a selfish coward. I will never do anything to save you again." Is that the appropriate response?
The brotherly bond is in ruins, and I have no faith that Carver can actually fix it.
The thing is that Carver probably thinks all he has to do is write a scene in the last ep of the season, similar to that in Sacrifice, where Sam tells Dean he didn't mean what he said and he WOULD save his brother at any cost, etc etc etc. x The point is that if and when Carver does that without giving any in-depth insight into why he made Sam so OOC since season 8.01, he will confirm himself as the worst showrunner SPN has ever had!
I agree but did give it a good because I enjoyed the Kevin and Linda story. Sam acting like a brat was another thing and I do not understand why he did that. Was happy to see Cas, but wish they would learn to write Angels again.
You're right - it would be awesome to see Mrs. Tran and Kevin again. But at least we found out what happened to Mama Tran; there wasn't any resolution in season 8. She is one of the strongest women SPN has written (they only tend to write moms well), played by a fantastic actress, so it is great when she gets screen time.
It isn't the fact that Cas killed Bart - it was the fact that he had just said he wasn't going to fight him and then basically killed him with the same breath that really blew my mind. I got that if he didn't kill Bart, Bart would kill him - and Cas had already figured that out - - - It was a really conflicting sentence with his actions and guilt.
No-one does, for the writers don't explain what it is Sam wants. Is he only angry because of Gadreel's possession, or is it something much deeper? Why can't Carver take the time to let Sam open his heart to Dean, and to us!
I see what you mean, but he was leaving, and only when Bartholomew went after him again did he kill him. I felt like he went as far into being a pacifist as he could.
I agree about Linda, and mothers. I know that some were upset about her killing the demon, but I thought it made sense for the scene. I actually didn't even fully see her talent until this episode, because her first two episodes had a lot of "wacky" moments for her. This one was a lot more serious and let her have more emotional moments.
I think he's struggling because he knows he will likely eventually forgive Dean, but he's scared to do so, because he knows something like this will happen again. He still cares a great deal about Dean - he was so scared for him at the start of the episode - but there's been no indication from Dean that Dean will change his mind about the Gadreel deal being right. So he's trying to stay distant from Dean, yet not completely distant from him, because he still cares about Dean and wants to be around him in some capacity.
You may think this, but it would be nice for the writers to TELL us what is really going on in Sam's head/heart. I am getting VERY tired of him reverting into a 12 year old. I will just take my bat and ball and go home and pout and I did not see any reason for it last night.
Hmm. Well I voted "ok". The problem for me is that it was like 2 different episodes -- Cas/Bart/Angels storyline which was completely separate from the brothers/Kevin/Mrs. Tran storyline. I don't think the show did a very good job melding the storylines so that they seemed cohesive. Also, I'm finding the angels storyline to be dull. I love Cas but, I just don't think he's being utilized very well right now and they're almost trying to shoe-horn him into the show at this point, which isn't really working for me. He needs to be more integrated into Sam and Dean's storyline IMO.
It's interesting that Crowley asked that Mrs. Tran and the others not be killed. Hopefully there will be some follow up to that. I didn't like Sam mocking Dean when he couldn't contact Crowley. Dean feels abandoned enough as it is, he doesn't need Sam to twist that knife in further.
I was not at all surprised that since the fall, no one who has died has been allowed into heaven. I remember after the season premiere I commented that this was probably the case. And I felt that Dean probably suspected something like this as well, since Metatron was on an ego trip and wanted sole control of Heaven, and he didn't care at all about humans.
So, if Dean hadn't saved Sam's life, then Sam would have met the same fate. He would be currently trapped in the veil, unable to move on, and eventually becoming a malevolent spirit. He'd be roaming the halls of the hospital as a ghost.
After Kevin told the brothers to make up, Dean turned to speak to Sam (I think he at least wants to work it out), but Sam had already walked away and left him in the dust. I guess Sam is really serious about not being brothers. I appreciate that Dean is trying to work out his emotions with music instead of drinking.
Jensen did a great job with his emotional scene apologizing to Kevin for what happened. He's just so wonderful at those type of emotional reveals. Oh and I approve of whoever dressed Dean in that overcoat. Very nice.
Exactly. I don't know why some people are calling them both out, when Dean did turn to Sam to talk to him, but Sam didn't care and he walked away. Sam made his feelings clear IMO.
From what we've learned in canon, Sam was given some allowance to be a kid/teenager. He was in a school play, played soccer, was a mathelete. He was able to go to college. Yes there were fights and teenage rebellion, but still, he was able to do much more "kid" stuff than Dean was ever allowed.
It was too slow/disjointed. Cas' plot just isn't working for me. I care more about Crowley V Abbadon and the Mark of Cain than I do about Angel civil war (which we have already seen and it was just as boring then).
I've been thinking that for years. Cas didn't really have a place on the show after season 5 but they kept him around because we all love the character (and misha). But his storylines either just make the show drag or just mess it all up completely. I have no problem with him being around, if there was actually a good reason for him too.
That is what i have been saying is that I didn't think that was death there especially since Death is not going to deal with well I don't want anyone hurt or deals because of me. Sam when you are dead what Dean does or what happens on earth is nothing you can say to death to prevent. Just like Tess told Dean whatever happens happens. And I would have been intrested in what Dean would have said but of course sam retreats to room. I will be intrested to see who will make the first move to resolve will sam and will he actually listen to dean. Where is Deans room because that is not deans room where is the fun collection and mom's pic and record collection. Do we think Dean moved for now just to be farther from sam to give him space???
I'm convinced that the writers have completely given up. Too many inconsistencies in this episode. First of all, there's no reason for Crowley to hold Kevin's mom hostage since he knows Kevin is dead. She's useless. Then there's the little bombshell they dropped on us that souls can't get to heaven since Metatron sealed it off. There's a mistake there because Charlie went to heaven briefly when she was killed by the wicked witch (I still can't believe that something that dumb was actually written on the show). Then there's the fact that Metatron told Castiel to have a normal human life and when he died his soul could return to heaven and he could tell Metatron all about his life experiences because Metatron "likes stories".
"They want it both ways, keep the brothers together yet keep this false bro-angst going at the same time"
Exactly! When they assured us they'd put them together b/c they know what the show's about, Winchester in the Impala going on hunt, I never thought they could be this misunderstanding; We want brothers together not just two dudes who one them doesn't even have a respectful behavior to his business partner. I'm sure those snide remarks cant be tolerated anywhere, much less in a business relationship.
Sam is still hanging around cause he still cares about his brother, just because you're angry with someone doesn't mean you want them to die in horrible pain. He still want to protect him
Yes. Two business partners would, as you say, be happier with each other than Sam and Dean are at the moment. After all they have been through, they should be on a far better footing than they are. They obviously love each other, they sold their souls for one another, so how can it be that they are having all these problems? x The writers are so ruining their relationship and I don't know if they will ever manage to put it together again. :(
Of course he cares about Dean. He loves his brother, that's why this whole thing is so sad. I don't know why the writers think they have to put the brothers through this.
Before Sam would vent for a while when he was angry with Dean, then it would all blow over, but this time it's going on too long. :(
That was before Metratron returned to Earth. We don't know if Heaven was still open at that point.
Metatron wanted Heaven to be important when he said that to Cas. He stopped caring about Heaven some time after this. He said on the show, explicitly, that he was bored in Heaven and left.
Crowley's been busy since he was released from the bunker. I didn't get the impression he was still giving orders to keep them alive - he was MIA. The demon couldn't get ahold of him to ask what to do.
I don't care about Crowley v Abaddon as much as I wish I did, mostly because we barely see Abaddon.
I hadn't cared about the angel war story but this week was a turnaround for me. I thought they did a great job with Cas and his motivations and finally put him in the middle of the story, instead of watching various dull angels kill each other.
Why are you saying the actions contrast if you agree he still cares?
I agree its going on too long too, but IMO, I believe Sam is scared that if he just drop it the same cycle of the last 9 years (when something bad happen, let's make a deal with some highers powers, which lead to people dying, which lead to ''let's never do stunts like that again'' speech, which lead to everyone forgetting it and starting all over again) will continue. Many time it was Dean who gave those speeches and yet he broke it time after time. The problem I have with last episode was that Sam didn't even stick around for hear what Dean had to say, maybe he's starting to get the point idk.
Sam used to go off for a few days to cool down when he got annoyed with Dean. What I meant was that maybe it would be better for Sam to leave the bunker to think things through on his own, then come back with a fresh approach.
It's difficult to understand what the writers are doing with the brothers.
The brothers said way back in season 3 that they wouldn't make deals such as selling their souls for each other any more, but the beauty of their relationship is that they always break their promise and try to save each other anyway. It's what makes them so wonderful.
What do you want to be told that what Dean did hit at the heart of Sam. And what reaction would suit this hypocritical fandom. If he does say something like in the Purge that is all kinds of wrong because it was mean to Dean and if he doesnt say something and goes into his room , he is a child and ignoring Dean.
What obligation has Sam got right now to deal with the situation or sooth Dean's hurt .Dean made it clear to him that he would do it again . Maybe Sam can never give the fandom the reaction they want ,unconditional forgiveness ?.
Am I the only one who actually liked this episode? I'm glad that they didn't just forget that Mrs Tran was alive, I was afraid that they might. I think there were maybe too many things going on at once (Cas scenes seemed a bit out of place), but the acting in this episode was superb, and I'm sure we'll find out more about the Mark of Cain, Crowley and Abaddon in coming episodes.
Its wonderful in a way, but in another way they used to be so offended to see innocent people dying to save them (like the dude in Faith), for years after that they didn't seem to care how many innocents people die everytime they're cheating death. They're a bit hypocrite on that matter ''We can't let innocents people die...unless that mean trading them for my dead brother, no problem on that'', they just turn a blind eye on the bad it caused, despite Death showing Dean the dommage saving one doomed life cause.
While it hurt to watch them be angry with each other, I can see Sam being tired of turning blind eye on all that.
I don't think the show did a very good job melding the storylines so that they seemed cohesive.
They never do, IMO. Ever since S6, I've noticed how much the show struggles to fit in Cas's (usually) separate, independent tale into the larger narrative. It's always a bit clunky, IMO.
Not at all! I thought the episode was good, in places great. I really loved what Berens did with Cas here, and there was some nice closure with Kevin and Linda, with the door still open for more appearances. I also thought that the writing for the brothers was more balanced than "Sam gives Dean a speech," although that story still needs better material.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Mama Tran is ALIVE!!! OMG I missed Kevin so much... It was a great and powerful episode.
ReplyDelete"I promise, cough cough COUGH COUGH!!!! Sorry, something in my throat" said Sam.
ReplyDeleteIt was great seeing Kevin and his mother again. Love her! Line of the night. "And you the worst part? I wasn't even allowed to kill anyone. I was told to protect them. I mean how SICK is that? Am i not a young vital demon with basic demon needs and right?!" Lmao. I laughed so hard at that.
ReplyDeleteI found this episode boring.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to next week because finally The Ghostfacers.
Dean was about to say something to Sam and Sam took off for his room. So all Dean could do is retreat to his. I miss the weapons on the wall. It doesn't look like his room anymore.
ReplyDeleteI just hope that wasn't the end for Kevin and his mother. They left it open-ended, somewhat.
ReplyDeleteAt least she was still alive. I was so happy to see her again. Lauren Tom is a great actress who really made all her scenes pop.
I think Cas killed him because he knew he had no choice by that point.
Def one oft favorites!!
ReplyDeleteThis episode was a tad slow, but I felt like it respectfully resolved Kevin's death (although I still want him to come back...I hope he's not gone for good) and I'm thrilled Linda is still alive. I wish we'd seen more of her learning about Kevin. Lauren Tom gave a beautiful performance in this episode. She lit up every scene she had.
ReplyDeleteI liked Dean using music as an escape, instead of drinking.
I really like how Robert Berens writes Cas.
lol nice!
ReplyDeleteHow are the brothers not swimming in ghost cases?
ReplyDeleteThe Kevin/Mrs Tran scenes were so emotional.
ReplyDeleteThis episode is kinda weird....
ReplyDeleteThe Kevin part is really good, finally Mrs.Tran was not used as comic relief but the character she was supposed to be.
And the angels saw Cas said he wouldn't kill angel again moments ago, then killed bert, and they would think Cas had shown them another way? it's killing angel, that's as same as what bert and marlachi has been doing.
downvote me all you want for pointing out the obvious problems, I didn't think it's a bad episode, I quite enjoyed it, but unlike some people I like this show but I don't think it's perfect and nothing can be criticize. and no need to say things like "you are not a real fan of the show/ you don't deserve to be a fan", if only a fan can watch this show , then this show is in serious trouble. if you want to say "why are you even watching this show?", then I'll have to ask you " why are you even reading this comment?"
iOS likes to substitute it's own words in there randomly. Def one of my favorites I meant :)
ReplyDeleteI really did like dean listening to music instead of drinking.
ReplyDeleteI got it the first time, no worries. = )
ReplyDeleteA rather depressing useless episode.
ReplyDeleteThe angels stuff was simply boring; I doubt anyone cares about them and there's nothing to comment about.
ReplyDeleteI felt like Linda's story needed to be resolved, moreso than just being filler.
I care about the angels...not as much as I did in season 4, but I think when they get Cas right, the story works.
I do want to see more of Dean and Sam being close, so we agree there.
ReplyDeleteCas hugged him because Bartholomew could kill him at any second and he was trying to work with Bartholomew to avoid that and get him on the right path.
He said kevin is his family, but when there are lead that Mrs. Tran was alive, he stopped Kevin to find his family, I get that Crowley's word is not trustworthy, but again he could've put out words in hunter circle to see if anybody heard anything. Yes, Dean is a hypocrite, but that just makes the character more real for me. He screws up. And he owns it.
IMO the episodes are dumbed down, unexciting. It's like watching the show through a fog.
ReplyDeleteThe angel story-line is absolutely boring. None of them have a personality.
In the past the angels like Anna, Zachariah, Raphael, Balthazar etc, were rounded-out appealing characters, far above Bartholomew and his crew of faceless followers.
The writers aren't taking the care and time to make them in the least interesting.
X
I don't agree about the brothers going to their rooms and brooding.
In the past Dean would go to a bar, pick a fight, find a girl to pass the night with or take a run in the Impala with the music at full blast; that's more in his style than taking to his room like a teen.
It's more in character for Sam to retreat to his room and read, though in the past he would have stayed and gotten into an emo- talk with Dean, instead of leaving like he did..
x
Just a word about Castiel; when do they get him 'right'?
ReplyDeleteDean never had a childhood, so he's prone to embracing the little things like LARPing or obsessing over a giant slinky. It's his way having a childhood.
ReplyDeleteIn the past Dean would go to a bar, pick a fight, find a girl to pass the night with or take a run in the Impala with the music at full blast; that's more in his style than taking to his room like a teen.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Dean's done any of this in a long time.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I found myself slightly bored and slightly tuned out of the Castiel scenes.
ReplyDeletex
At the beginning Sam rushes out of his room, ( which is far from Dean's by the way. Wouldn't it be better if they were next door to each other if trouble arises? However! ) to go and see if Dean's okay, just as he did in the last episode when Dean was knocked out; actions which I find to be in contrast with the whole, "I'm angry with you Dean" story-line.
x
I agree that it would be far more mature for Sam to go off on his own to think about things, far from Dean.
x
Why is Sam still hanging out with his brother? Who knows!
The writers obviously don't think it's important enough to share with the viewers. They want it both ways, keep the brothers together yet keep this false bro-angst going at the same time, and the whole thing just comes over as depressing and illogical.
x
I'm even beginning to dislike the bunker.
ReplyDeleteAs you said, they are together b/c the script calls for it.
ReplyDeletex
The point is that if and when Carver does that without giving any in-depth insight into why he made Sam so OOC since season 8.01, he will confirm himself as the worst showrunner SPN has ever had!
I wonder why they have to keep making Sam into a spoiled BRAT???? I HATE IT and don't even know what his problem was.
ReplyDeleteI agree but did give it a good because I enjoyed the Kevin and Linda story. Sam acting like a brat was another thing and I do not understand why he did that. Was happy to see Cas, but wish they would learn to write Angels again.
ReplyDeleteYou're right - it would be awesome to see Mrs. Tran and Kevin again. But at least we found out what happened to Mama Tran; there wasn't any resolution in season 8. She is one of the strongest women SPN has written (they only tend to write moms well), played by a fantastic actress, so it is great when she gets screen time.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't the fact that Cas killed Bart - it was the fact that he had just said he wasn't going to fight him and then basically killed him with the same breath that really blew my mind. I got that if he didn't kill Bart, Bart would kill him - and Cas had already figured that out - - - It was a really conflicting sentence with his actions and guilt.
I'm not sure either. Sam is more mature than this.
ReplyDeleteAnd, again, I am NOT saying Sam has no right to be angry or upset. I'm saying I don't like the way the writers are handling this situation.
No-one does, for the writers don't explain what it is Sam wants.
ReplyDeleteIs he only angry because of Gadreel's possession, or is it something much deeper?
Why can't Carver take the time to let Sam open his heart to Dean, and to us!
I see what you mean, but he was leaving, and only when Bartholomew went after him again did he kill him. I felt like he went as far into being a pacifist as he could.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Linda, and mothers.
ReplyDeleteYou may think this, but it would be nice for the writers to TELL us what is really going on in Sam's head/heart. I am getting VERY tired of him reverting into a 12 year old. I will just take my bat and ball and go home and pout and I did not see any reason for it last night.
ReplyDeleteHmm.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that Crowley asked that Mrs.
ReplyDeleteFrom what we've learned in canon, Sam was given some allowance to be a kid/teenager. He was in a school play, played soccer, was a mathelete. He was able to go to college. Yes there were fights and teenage rebellion, but still, he was able to do much more "kid" stuff than Dean was ever allowed.
ReplyDeleteIt was too slow/disjointed. Cas' plot just isn't working for me. I care more about Crowley V Abbadon and the Mark of Cain than I do about Angel civil war (which we have already seen and it was just as boring then).
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking that for years. Cas didn't really have a place on the show after season 5 but they kept him around because we all love the character (and misha). But his storylines either just make the show drag or just mess it all up completely. I have no problem with him being around, if there was actually a good reason for him too.
ReplyDeleteThat is what i have been saying is that I didn't think that was death there especially since Death is not going to deal with well I don't want anyone hurt or deals because of me.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Deans room because that is not deans room where is the fun collection and mom's pic and record collection.
ReplyDelete"They want it both ways, keep the brothers together yet keep this false bro-angst going at the same time"
ReplyDeleteExactly!
He still want to protect him
ReplyDeleteYes. Two business partners would, as you say, be happier with each other than Sam and Dean are at the moment.
ReplyDeleteAfter all they have been through, they should be on a far better footing than they are.
They obviously love each other, they sold their souls for one another, so how can it be that they are having all these problems?
x
The writers are so ruining their relationship and I don't know if they will ever manage to put it together again. :(
Of course he cares about Dean. He loves his brother, that's why this whole thing is so sad. I don't know why the writers think they have to put the brothers through this.
ReplyDeleteBefore Sam would vent for a while when he was angry with Dean, then it would all blow over, but this time it's going on too long. :(
That was before Metratron returned to Earth. We don't know if Heaven was still open at that point.
ReplyDeleteMetatron wanted Heaven to be important when he said that to Cas.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't cared about the angel war story but this week was a turnaround for me. I thought they did a great job with Cas and his motivations and finally put him in the middle of the story, instead of watching various dull angels kill each other.
Why are you saying the actions contrast if you agree he still cares?
ReplyDeleteI agree its going on too long too, but IMO, I believe Sam is scared that if he just drop it the same cycle of the last 9 years (when something bad happen, let's make a deal with some highers powers, which lead to people dying, which lead to ''let's never do stunts like that again'' speech, which lead to everyone forgetting it and starting all over again) will continue. Many time it was Dean who gave those speeches and yet he broke it time after time. The problem I have with last episode was that Sam didn't even stick around for hear what Dean had to say, maybe he's starting to get the point idk.
I agree, but I thought his reactions at the end of the episode (he quickly left, then nearly changed his mind) were telling.
ReplyDeleteSam used to go off for a few days to cool down when he got annoyed with Dean.
ReplyDeleteWhat I meant was that maybe it would be better for Sam to leave the bunker to think things through on his own, then come back with a fresh approach.
ReplyDeleteWhat obligation has Sam got right now to deal with the situation or sooth Dean's hurt .Dean made it clear to him that he would do it again .
ReplyDeleteIts wonderful in a way, but in another way they used to be so offended to see innocent people dying to save them (like the dude in Faith), for years after that they didn't seem to care how many innocents people die everytime they're cheating death. They're a bit hypocrite on that matter ''We can't let innocents people die...unless that mean trading them for my dead brother, no problem on that'', they just turn a blind eye on the bad it caused, despite Death showing Dean the dommage saving one doomed life cause.
ReplyDeleteWhile it hurt to watch them be angry with each other, I can see Sam being tired of turning blind eye on all that.
Awful, I know that the Angels are a major part of this world but I am so sick of the politics and references to Raphael and Castiel going crazy
ReplyDeleteI don't think the show did a very good job melding the storylines so that they seemed cohesive.
ReplyDeleteThey never do, IMO.
ReplyDeletewell he was never promise anything in his whole damn like so why should he have too now!
ReplyDeletesorry the writers will not let him speak him mind!
ReplyDeleteOuch. Big Sam diss towards Dean at the end. That was HARSH.
ReplyDeleteI know the character was good when you miss than. I happy to see Kevin and Mrs. Tran one last time. Great episode.
ReplyDelete
