Yes!, This was my "Lost" because I could never get into that one. I can't wait for this to come back, I hope its like season 1 of Heroes that was the best one.
Oh god no. The show had it's time, was ruined by horrid writing after season 2. Just so much no. This is like trying to do "Lost Reborn". Certain shows had their run, just leave it at that. Good lord how desperate is NBC? First an ordered straight to series, aka 'MJF show disaster 2.0', and now this. There are just some shows you cannot recreate. They were relevant in their time, but no longer. Calling it now, another DOA show. Come on NBC, you can do better than this.
I dunno… Personally I think that show has also ran its course.
Regardless 24 revival VS a Heroes revival I think is a bit of an unfair comparison.
24's format offers a revival. If another danger rears its head why not call Jack Bauer? Heroes with its serialized format and intricate mythology will be harder to follow for people who didn't watch.
There's also the fact that 24's standing with FOX when it did end, was very very different than what Heroes standing with NBC was when it was canned. Heroes was struggling creatively and ratings wise. It hadn't been a "hit" or a "signature" show for the network in years. Why risk bringing it back again? At the very least 24 bowed out on a relatively good note. Why not try again if the story is there?
The first season was great (until last minute open ending), and they had three more seasons to prove they didn't know what to do anymore. No need for more (at least with the same team behind the cameras).
As I mentioned above: When it got unceremoniously canceled Heroes was struggling creatively and ratings wise. It hadn't been a "hit" or a "signature" show for the network in years. So deciding to bring it back when the cancelation wasn't unwarranted or unreasonable makes the decision quite random.
Heroes was the biggest hit NBC had in a long time. After they canceled it the network fell apart completely and still hasn't recovered. They still don't have any show that comes even close to what Heroes was. Every network is lacking creativity and keeps warming up shows from the past. All NBC is doing right is using old stuff that was once successful and hope it gets a big hit (again). Since Heroes is their last successful show it is everything but random.
My point is, Heroes was regarded as a hit for NBC for about two seasons (not even BTW). It didn't manage to sustain that status for too long and when it was decided to not renew it it had fallen quite a bit from the networks graces. So IMO reviving something that failed to remain a hit is random.
The rating were steadily declining for a looong time and had not up-ticked. Hardcore fans were giving up on the show. Assuming you'll get all those eyeballs back is still a quite a gamble with a show that had been constantly LOOSING viewers.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeletei just hope this is good as the first seasons of teh show were!
ReplyDeleteIf it's S1 quality and fixes & redeems the mess from the seasons after then it might not be such a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that... Bringing back Heroes? Of all the shows one could have picked, Heroes? That's the most random show revival ever!
I can't even..... YESSSSS
ReplyDeleteFOX revived 24. NBC wanted to revive one of their own formerly popular shows I guess. :D
ReplyDeleteI dunno… Personally I think that show has also ran its course.

If that's the case, I hope the next one will be ABC's Lost!
ReplyDeleteGod please no! That was one show that surely had its run and any ideas for reviving it should be shut down immediately.
ReplyDeleteThis I was not expecting. I suspect I'll watch. I won't be surprised if it is good, and I won't be surprised if it turns out as a travesty.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really random. Heroes was NBC's biggest cash cow.
ReplyDeleteThe first season was great (until last minute open ending), and they had three more seasons to prove they didn't know what to do anymore. No need for more (at least with the same team behind the cameras).
ReplyDeleteWell, 2015 is still far away, but I suspect I'll watch at least the first 2/3 episodes. Is any member of the old cast coming back?

From what I understand , as bad as the ratings dropped, they would love to have those same ratings today.
