The CW web series: a comedy featuring @HiRyanHansen attempting to put together a Dick Casablancas spin-off of #VeronicaMars. No date yet.

— Rob Thomas (@RobThomas) January 16, 2014Veronica Mars is getting a spinoff series, for now online only. The CW made the announcement at the top of its TCA presentation. No details were given about the series, which will be for the CW’s digital platform CW Seed, but it hails from Veronica Mars creator and the movie’s co-writer/director Rob Thomas. “He is very excited about it,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said, noting that Thomas will focus on the digital series after he completes work on the Veronica Mars. Pedowitz said the spinoff originated with the digital division of Warner Bros. the studio behind the original series, which reached out to CW Seed. The deal was sealed with a phone call by Pedowitz to Thomas who committed to the project. Thomas has concept ideas and plans for “potential people who could be involved” but nothing has been locked in yet, Pedowitz said. Since CW Seed’s is designed as an incubator that Launches shows that could transition to TV, it is not inconceivable to see Veronica Mars back in primetime.

!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei hate the CW but I'm ALL for this
ReplyDeleteeh ?
ReplyDeletedigital spin-off ?
(in my best Elijah voice) please elaborate.
I'd rather have fourth season tough...
I Wonder If Kristen Bell Will Star In It. Because If So It Is A Digital Series She Probably Could Juggle Her Schedule Between This And House Of Lies. I Hope So Because She Plays Such Amazing Characters Kristen Bell Is One Amazing Actress.
ReplyDeleteJust as I am catching up on Veronica Mars for the first time before the movie comes out, I hear a spin-off is announced?! SO EXCITED!
ReplyDeleteCW finally seeing value on VM, it took only 6 years but OK.
ReplyDeleteVut I wonder how this is going to be, I have no idea how they'll come with a spinoff from VM.
it says spin-off tough, I don't think a spin-off would feature the motherships main character.
ReplyDeleteProbably a Weevil or Keith solving crimes spin-off thing.
I'd pay for a Dick spin-off tough
New VM-related drama on my computer? Yes please. Doesn't need to be on tv, as long as it is good. :)
ReplyDeletePlease, please, PLEASE have it continue from the movie with Veronica setting her own detective agency in LA. IM SO EXCITED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING. Freaking out!
ReplyDeleteI don't know.. they couldnt exactly call it anything else with the show being over for 6 years.. a reboot no? a revamp no? I think it could very well be a continuation from the movie, lord knows how much Kristen Bell loves Veronica Mars.. she would be well up for it.
ReplyDeleteEven if she is not starring in it, I could see her recurring, she and Rob are firm friends.
from what I gathered this will be an 8 episode long series with each episode
ReplyDelete(segment) taking 10 minutes each. http://www.deadline.com/2014/01/veronica-mars-gets-digital-spinoff-series-on-cw/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
I'm sure Kristen will be in it but I guess this'll be more of a 'where are they now' series. Featuring former main and recurring characters, each having a small crime to solve
OMG. OMFG. I cannot be the only one hoping House of Lies is either canceled or writes of KB. I bet if she was free for a full time series CW would give VM another go. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteMy personal theory is, they are testing this online with (cheap, short) segments, test how many viewers watch before committing to a full pilot/episode order. With the movie out in April.. I could see this being put on the air in 2015, even this fall if Rob is quick enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited, I can't even tell you. Even if Kristen is only in one of the 8 segments, it will be a hit if we get Dick, Logan etc doing segments.
I agree I guess that Mark sees the potential Veronica Mars has (and how much of a dumbass Ostroff was for cancelling it) and tries to take it slow with putting a fourth season forward. The segments could possibly work as a 'pilot series' for season 4.
ReplyDeleteKristen might be doing House of Lies atm but as far as I know these shows only have contracts that go from season to season.
Ryan stars in Bad Teacher this summer (I don't see that show surviving tough)
Percy hasn't done too much
Jason doesen't have any pilot so far
the only one I'm worried about is Enrico who has some show called 'Remedy' in production.
However, if Pedowitz decided to bring VM back he'd need assurance that this can actually work (before the movie comes out) and a CWseed series could be the perfect way to do check wether a new VM season could work.
I'm with you with your enthusiasm, I love Veronica Mars (this show made a tv addict out of me) and would totally dig a fourth season. but atm I'll take whatever I can get
God... No. I don't like this.
ReplyDeleteExactly! :-)
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!!!!!!
Ah the power of Kickstarter. The good keeps rolling along. I've never been to CW Seed, but I'm definitely aboard making Veronica Mars carry on longer.
ReplyDeletePERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's like a digital series version of the Kickstarter promo they did.
Ryan Hansen was awesome in his last web series, Burning Love
Am I reading this right? It's not really a Veronica Mars story it's about Ryan trying to make a Dick series? I'll still watch it, for sure, but it's not quite as exciting if that's the case. Would rather have a VM story.
