TVLINE | Dean was right there when it happened. Having lost Kevin, how’s he handling it emotionally? Are we going to see that toll, as well?
No question about it. That’s what I was hinting at in terms of Dean going to do whatever it takes. It’s a crushing blow to Dean and it’s one that’s going to stay with him for a while, absolutely.
TVLINE | Is Gadreel really just content to play second fiddle to Metatron?
We need to watch the Gadreel story as it unfolds, without getting too far ahead of ourselves… There’s no reason to take [Metatron's offer to Gadreel to get his name back] as anything other than truth. We’re only going to learn more pieces of Gadreel’s background as we move forward into the end of the season.

Ooh, all of this sounds interesting! Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteInteresting a death on SPN that carries over to another episode. The only times we had that was with major characters like Sam, Dean, Cas, Bobby and John. Ellen, Jo, Ash, Pam, Mrs. Tran were forgotten after their death (and only brought up in themed episodes like 'Defending your life')
ReplyDeleteI love Supernatural, but I'm kinda tired of all the good characters dying. No wonder Dean and Sam are emotionally battered! They need some positive things to happen!
ReplyDeleteGood to know the writers maintain their complete and total disinterest in Sam in any way, shape or form.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a little spoilery interview, I know and I appreciate it, but they could have mentioned Sam (his health or emotional state), and more importantly the Winchester's role in the upcoming episodes... Really I have no idea what is the running plot of the 2nd half, and if the Winchesters are going to be remotely effective in it or not!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Sam isn't mentioned at all sadly doesn't surprise me. And in all fairness, that blame should go to TVLine, not Carver. This is assuming Carver didn't have control over which questions he was asked and which answers the magazine published. But what I find stunning is that of all the heroes Carver could have compared Cas to, he chose Luke Skywalker, given the fandom's tendency to dwell on the Kripke quote that Sam is Luke Skywalker and Dean is Hans Solo in this story. Maybe Sam is Chewbacca now - seen but not really heard or listened to.
ReplyDeleteNothing new we already knew Sam would be mostly absent/inactive from the main plot but Sam fans can be content in the knowledge that eventually research is going to be needed for a MOTW episode and Sam is research guy. So look forward to him hitting the books and dropping numerous case related facts in episodes 12 and beyond.
ReplyDeleteSam is no longer a main player in the storyline he's just someone they have to have around due to contractual obligation. But like I've already pointed out when something needs to be researched Sam will be there looking at books and relaying case related facts.
ReplyDeleteAnything they can do to move Sam's story to ANY OTHER CHARACTER is obviously the motto for the writers.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the new that Jared was being replaced by a guest star?
ReplyDeleteOh don't worry I'm pretty sure Dean will become as ineffective/pointless to the main plot after episode 11 too. After he's finished his guilty arc in episode 12 he'll be pushed over in favor of Cas/Gadreel/Metatron/Crowley/Abaddon and the rest too. He'll still have the MOTW episodes and all his much smarter/much more important friends to interact with.
ReplyDeleteDean will never be pushed out. He will work and become BFFs with every single one of those characters, all of whom will reiterate that Sam is just a "big giant baby" who is totally worthless while Dean is just the bestest and most competent person ever.
ReplyDeleteWhy would we need to know about Sam's health or state of mind? We already know that he gets a quick fix in episode 10 and (then another in episode 11) with a line suggesting he's suicidal in episode 11 then it will all be forgotten in episode 12.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say he would be pushed out I do believe that other than making goo goo eyes at Cas and dropping one liners like he cant speak in full sentences he probably wont be a real part of the main plot after episode 11. He'll still have a lot more than Sam but thats to be expected by now.
ReplyDeleteI will say though if it keeps on like this Jared could probably take a film role and do the show next season without being missed.
What a lot of inconsequential rubbish.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about any of that and if I have to read once again about how Castiel is still learning to deal with his human feelings, I'm going to fall asleep from boredom.
x
All I'm interested in is the story of Sam and Dean, even Crowley is getting on my nerves now and I have always liked him. I hate how we'll these secondary characters are being forced down out throats whether we want them or not.
Carver and his troupe are a disgrace to the franchise.
x
The only eps to hope for anything brotherly, are the MOTW. Perhaps there we might get a glimpse of Sam and Dean the TWO LEADS of the show!
No matter what the interviewer asked, Carver could have mentioned the brothers just the same. After all they are, until further notice still the stars of the show and are still the characters that most viewers tune in for.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I'd be glad to Sam gains his complete health even if it is instafix, we had sick Sam way too much and they've dragged this trial toll too much, at the price of putting him out of commission and putting yet another load of guilt on Dean. What I want is for the brothers to enter fray and have some actual role in the plot, if anything for saving humans from those dick angels and demons.
ReplyDeleteInstant fix's are a avoidance not a answer .I despise them, it is a cop -out that allows them to futher the idea that Sam's reaction/feelings are irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteI sort of agree with this. I'm tired of Sam's health being used as an excuse to pull Sam (or both Sam and Dean, as Dean sits bedside) out of the fight. That doesn't mean the issue on an emotional level should be instantly dropped. Sam's perspective on this should be given as much focus as Dean's perspective. And Sam's role in the trials - his motivations for wanting to do them, his thoughts about dropping them, and the physical and emotional effects from them, should have some lasting impact and be factored into the continuation of the evolution of his character. The problem in recent years has been that as soon as his storyline (soullessness, wall, or Hell even) is over, it's almost immediately dropped and forgotten. When the writers aren't sure what to do with Sam's character, they just reset his character back to a much earlier time. Sacrifice felt like where Sam might have been at the end of season 4, and the Amelia story felt like early season 1. There's story dropping on all sides, but I'm not sure that message sinks in with TPTB.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I was talking about physical fixing and whatever it helps them enter the fight. I figured they already showed his treatment method, but still dragged it for half a season, they may as well put an end to this long term treatment.
ReplyDeleteOh they drop storyline always, Dean's hell experience, poor Adam in the pit, God,... what you mean I think is character development and I completely and wholeheartedly agree w/ you; Sam is in a never ending loop of up and down of emotional moods w/o a lasting effect on his character. I even say Amelia belonged to teenage Sam before he left for collage, and that is a shame for TPTB.
ReplyDeleteThey're like those fans who go on and on about Dean, Cas, Crowley and every other character like Sam doesn't even exist. That's very concerning coming from the showrunner.
ReplyDeleteThis place is sometimes so negative. Yes, questions were about Dean, Crowley and Cas, but nothing new was said. It was all old news. It's obvious Kevin's death is going to take a toll on Dean. We don't know how will Sam react to being possessed by an angel. I'm still waiting to see it before I'll make a judgment.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty bad when the freaking showrunner doesn't talk up the brothers but the actors do. Jared and Jensen are always talking up the brothers' relationship even though they probably don't even believe what they're saying at this point. Even Mark Sheppard talked up the brothers in his preseason interviews, basically understanding that Crowley's story should be secondary to the show about the brothers who hunt monsters. But Jeremy Carver? He can't be bothered with doing that and what's even worse is that he doesn't seem to give a damn about Sam as a character at all anymore. His solution is to stick an angel in him because that's what he thinks viewers want, more angels. To his credit Jared Padalecki has been doing an amazing job with his performances this season but I think a lot of us would rather see some character development from Sam. Or hell, just any Sam period. It's not too much to ask.
ReplyDeleteThis is just a terrible way to treat the actors who have given so much to this show. Neglect their characters and give all the attention to guest stars. I suspect at this point Carver doesn't care about the brothers and doesn't want to tell that story anymore, he wants to do the Angels and Demons Show. Of course he can't get rid of the brothers so instead he just downgrades Sam as a plot point who gets little interaction with other characters and never spends any time on his perspective and makes Dean the reactor to everyone else.
ReplyDeleteYeah.
ReplyDeleteFirst he should outline what's going on with the bros, then mention the other characters. He shows little or no respect for the J's.
x
As for Sam, he was once a feisty opinionated guy who could hold his own with his brother, resulting at times in head butting, but they were always a team, on equal footing, each with their own distinct personalities, choosing freely to stay and hunt together.
x
Under Carver's rule, I don't know what melting pot he has turned the show into.
Sam is emarginated and practically forgotten; Dean is more present, but only to pair him up with the guest star of the moment.
x
Jensen himself has said, I believe at some con or other, that he loves the brothers' co-dependency. It's clear that Carver doesn't and unfortunately it's he who commands! :(
I have to say the idea of Sam being the new Chewbacca made me laugh so hard because there are many ways you can take that statement.
ReplyDeleteSam under Carver's reign has been reduced to this suicidal shell of the person he once was and that really upsets me. Jared even said in a recent interview that Sam's not over those feelings, so I expect more of the same in the little bit of insight into Sam's psyche that we will get to see in the second half. He used to be a smart, capable hunter with goals and aspirations. Now he's just sort of waiting to die. How depressing.
ReplyDeleteThis. Exactly. You have said it so well.
ReplyDeleteI guess you're right, no need to get this riled up over a little interview. In fact I think Carver is kinda an airhead, the mess he made of the characters in S8, his childish enthusiasm and comment about Jared playing 3 'different' characters (Zeke, Gadreel & Sam while we know there was never a Zeke to begin with) in his previous interview, and here not even mentioning one the main characters' name in this one... anyway as you said nothing was new here, except Crowley, so let's wait and see this 2nd half.
ReplyDeleteWhat I fear is that we won't get more than Sam saying he wants to die and then we get LOTS of how bad this makes DEAN feel with absolutely NO look at Sam's psyche. Sam as an actual person with a POV and emotions has been completely ignored for so long now.
ReplyDeleteThat was like the only positive comment I saw lol. Of course I would like to know more but it would spoil everything. It does sound interesting and Supernatural is top priority in my schedule! :D
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and worse is this frustrating swinging mood from being happy w/ life and being suicidal, they'd made a unique mental case out of him; what a mess, absolutely no character development and consistency.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope not to see anymore suicidal tendency, just let the characters grow.
It looks like the most interesting story they had this year concludes tomorrow so it's no wonder they're not promoting it. It ends tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteDo I care about Gadreel once he's expelled from Sam? Not really. Do I care about Metratron or Bart of any of the boring angels? Nope.
What is there to look forward to for the rest of the season? Dean being sad/depressed about Kevin? No thanks.
Yeah . . . the only real story (aside from Sam's possession) I see happening this year is the angel civil war. Nothing else seems to be happening. I doubt Dean will have much role to play in that. The Winchesters are never important in the angel stuff.
ReplyDeleteMy interest in the rest of the season certainly hasn't been sparked. I need more stuff with Sam AND Dean to be truly interested. I can't begin to explain how much I don't care about the angels!
And I fully expect Carver to kill him at the end of the series. In his world, Sam wants to die, so that is likely what will happen. Sam will die. Dean will accept it, and that will be that.
ReplyDeletePercy, that's what I think will happen too. At the end of some random episode, Sam will probably mention wanting to die, and that will be that. No further explanation or exploration will be given.
ReplyDeleteI imagine that is exactly how this will all play out! I truly believe the first half of the season will be rendered virtually pointless.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more w/you! They constantly drop Sam's plots and storylines. Instead of adding to Sam's character, it's like it never happened. Sam's time in the Cage, the hellucinations, soon-to-be the possession - none of it will actually have an impact on Sam b/c the writers don't bother to expand on his story.
ReplyDeleteIt's annoying and illogical. Some of the things that have happened to Sam should have some impact on him.
See the thing is with this one very vocal group of "fans" (a lot of whom will outright admit that they've never watched the first three seasons of the show) is that they bring a lot of traffic to websites, so of course the interviewers are going to ask questions skewed in their favor. But Carver as the showrunner really should redirect the line of questioning to emphasize what the brothers' role in all of this will be and he isn't. That's cutting off his nose to spite his face because those of us who have stuck with this show for the past nine seasons are starting to feel as if there's no incentive to watch the show anymore. What happens when they've finally alienated the core group of fans who have been around since the beginning? Then what they'll be stuck with are a bunch of people who don't appreciate this show for what it's truly about and will become even more vocal and even more angry when they don't see the desired result, which is Dean and Castiel having some sort of romance. Then the accusations of queerbaiting will come back out. It's a vicious cycle that you would think Carver would be smart enough to avoid, but apparently he isn't and I really don't feel bad for him or the writers once all the twitter backlash occurs because they're only reaping what they've sown.
ReplyDeleteDoes it bother anyone else that Carver keeps talking as if the "Dean hunts down Gadreel" arc is some huge arc that is going to play out for a couple of episodes??!?!?!
ReplyDeleteDean ejects Gadreel tomorrow! Why talk as if that will be more than what it is?
Carver is terrible at giving interviews. I'm presuming that the lack of any talk about Sam is because he's trying to avoid giving out spoilers about what Gadreel's fate will be, but it's common knowledge that Gadreel is going to be ejected by the end of the next episode. If/when his storyline picks back up I'm assuming that Tahmoh Penikett will be back in the role and I'm also assuming that he doesn't want to spoil that either.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice to hear something about how Sam would be dealing with his emotions post possession but since they're probably not even going to address that on the show, why bother? It's all going to be about how Dean is dealing with his guilt over the situation and even then I doubt it will be explored very much. It will only end up being dropped in favor of the angels/demons mytharc anyway.
And people wonder why we call Sam a "plot point." He is certainly written like one!
ReplyDeleteI don't expect Sam to have any feelings incident. Actually, I expect him to forgive Dean, and that will be that. There will be no blow out. There will be no separation. Sam will not be impacted by anything that happened.
This entire story was written to break Dean and "teach him a lesson." That lesson is to let Sam die. So the next time Sam dies, Dean won't do anything to stop it, etc. I see no other point to this story since Sam is not likely to get a perspective!
Remember back in season four, when Sam was looking for revenge on Lilith? And Dean told Sam that it was wrong, wrong, wrong because Dean was out of Hell, so Sam should just forget about revenge? And Sam should forget about Lilith even though the angels said she was breaking seals and would start the Apocalypse, which will kill billions of people? Now, we are about to be shown that revenge is a good and just thing because Dean, the always right and good, wants revenge on Gadreel and Sam will be a big old wuss if he tries to talk Dean out of it by anything so mealy mouthed as, "but I ejected Gad, so revenge doesn't matter". And besides, Gad is with Metatron and Metatron is working against the angels, which has NOTHING to do with humans, but God, Sam, we have to stop him, don't you see that? How can you be SO irresponsible, Sam?
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no. Sam is Jar Jar Binks now.
ReplyDeleteYou know, as much as I like Jared, I really can't picture him as Thor. That bit of interference did that character and the following films a service.
ReplyDeleteI think people are basing their negative comments on past experience. It's a historical pattern for this show and its writers to do any and all of the things referenced above. Why would it suddenly change in the back half of season nine? Unless the entire production staff was taken over by aliens ...
ReplyDeletetitles are just titles dosen't define the episodes. Diverse comments some like some dosen't but the names are ok :)
