BUT I fear that even if Jared or Jensen jump off they'll resume doing the show until it's dead rating wise. Doesen't need to be a bad thing neccessarily but I would still hate that.
Since Supernatural is a reliable player for The CW despite being a 9-season show, no surprise.
But at one moment they'll need to find other hit shows to be able to replace SPN without hurting the network ratings, this show is not expensive like other shows at the same age since it has only two regular character guaranteed, but it's no Law & Order, where you can replace characters without imacting the show.
It's a hard decision, let's see what Carver has for the show when season 9 ends. I don't want to see Supernatural gets cancelled, I want they decide a season to end things. I do think we will have season 10 and then they will announce season 11 as the last one.
I'm guessing 11 will be announced as the last, I cant see Jared and Jensen wanting to go beyond that.
Personally I feel that it should end this season, they could easily wrap the show with all the current storylines ending. Cas restoring heaven, Sam dying and Dean moving on. It wouldn't be a stretch. At the moment its hard to envision a season 10 creatively. How long can they drag out the heaven/Metatron storyline? How long can Crowley/Abaddon keep fighting over hell? What else can be wrong with Sam?
My guess would be that if Jared chooses to jump they'll continue on but if Jensen wants to go they'll end it. Ratings wise I dont think it will ever really be a dead horse, creatively is another story.
They COULD do it now, but I'd prefer that they announce the final season as the final season at the start. That way they can build up to something show-endingly-huge.
Supernatural is an awesome television show but ever since Season 5 ended, each season since has been going down hill. They need to come up with an end game and do it soon. Otherwise when they do finally decide to end the show, Supernatural will end up having the best of the seasons in the beginning and the worst at the end. Like 24, Dexter, Smallville, Prison Break, etc...
Absolutely agree. They should (or hopefully, they have) set up an overall arc for the remaining seasons and have an end in mind. I don't think it should go on as long as it can, cause it will run out of steam sooner than they admit it.
Marc Berman is pointing a gun to his throat right now, LOL. Good for fans of Supernatural! Though I don't watch the show anymore I'm happy that you'll continue to enjoy the series :)
It has to end sooner rather than later. Not that I don't love the show, I do, but they are running out of things to hunt. They have already defeated the Devil, Eve, the Leviathans, and an assortment of pagan gods. Now they are fighting Angels, what's next? I would be interested to see if they show God before the show ends; they have always depicted him as this absentee father who has left his children free to run wild and destroy the universe. Maybe the show could end with the Winchesters finding God and getting him off his arse and taking him to a parenting class, or something.
Well I guess that allows me to stop watching it. I was sticking with it cause I thought it would end this season or next season, which is long past its prime (should have ended at the end of 5). If there's no end in sight, at least not within a season, then I'm just subjecting myself to more and more of the same.
How bad the show is now is a matter of opinion and the latest seasons of the first 5 (especially the 4-5) did have a lot of bad comments, that people forgot cause of the nostalgia feeling. S6 and 7 were the worst IMO, but I did enjoy season 8 and enjoying more season 9 so far. It doesn't have the same feelings than the first seasons, but it's not worse every year, not for everyone.
I do agree that they should end it before it run out of stuff and become like season 6 forever, i do think they can still do couple of years. Even if it doesn't have the same feeling than before, it's still fun to watch. Better having something good to watch (even if it's not the same than before) than absolutely nothing.
Some people are mixing opinions and facts about how ''awful and un-watchable'', even if they're still watching, the show now is.
I don't think it'll come down to who jumps off, as long as one of both stays the show stays off with either Cas, Garth or *pukes* Charlie filling their place.
I could see a 'three amigos' esque series with Dean, Cas and Crowley
I concur. I used to love this show more than any other, but it deserves to go out with some respect. I watch out of loyalty, but the occasional amazing episode is not enough and just pisses on the beginning 4-6 seasons.
Just because it can continue does not mean it should, as it's no where near as good as it used to be. There are still great episodes thrown in there every now and then though.
Feel like a proud momma, this show is a survivor and will be remembered in TV world. But warm feelings aside don't want it to run forever : J2 are both great actors and have to move on. At least try to get some job where their acting skills will be recognized. They deserve better then CW. Season 10 is granted and probably short 11 just to beat Smallville. And than farewell for good. This show is getting enough hate already from its own fans. So sad.
I thought I had heard once that it was ending after 10 seasons. That may have just been someone mouthing off, though... But wouldn't it be perfect? Maybe the creators and writers sold their souls for a really good show and after 10 years their time is up ^_^
It's nice to know that Mr.Pedowitz appreciates the show, as most critics have looked down their noses at SPN as if it was below their ntellectual interest. x Whether one likes the show or not, it can't be denied that it has resisted against bad odds and has even recruited new viewers, probably due to the series being now shown on other media. So hats off to the WInchesters and their on-screen charisma, which is what has driven the show for 9 years. x As to the future, I'm certain there will be a 10th year if for nothing else but to finish off the story in a more leisurely way. Whether Spn continues beyond that depends on various factors, primarily the actors. I see that many think the actors should pass on to other projects but I would say that is easier said than done. I would think the Hollywood scene is pretty cut-throat and there is IMO no guarantee that either actor will easily find something else. If I was them, I'd go for the steady wage for as long as I can get it. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush! x Story-wise, the writers are mediocre. They continue to serve up the same plots without ever coming up with anything creatively new. They MOL has been the onlt thing but the have shelfed for reasons of their own. x The brothers are hunters of the supernatural, and that world is extensive, they could come up with something else instead of the tired angel/ demon saga. In season ten they could go back to basics. Road trip across the USA, Investigating interesting urban legends and saving lives.
I agree a season 10 would be best as is it allows more than enough time to plan a proper ending just looking at where they are now I can easily see an ending with the direction they're already moving in. I guess they will stretch out the current storylines for longer?
I actually think Mark Sheppard should go at the end of this season, I think the Crowley storyline has been dragged out long enough. Creatively they have him in a really good place to kill him off at the end of the current season. Dean being 'amigoes' with Crowley would really be th nail in his moral compass, did he suddenly forget that Crowley killed his beloved Jo and Ellen or what about Sarah and all the other people that Sma and Dean had saved that he killed last season?! Jared/Sam fans would walk away and enjoy Jared's work elsewhere, hopefully Sam will have died a hero/been given a happy ending. Carver would be happy as he doesnt like the Sam/Dean relationship but prefers the Dean/Cas one. Fans would be relatively happy on all sides.
There are lots of shows that have been on longer than Smallville. Simpsons,Southpark, etc there are plenty of live action shows too. Doctor Who is one of them.
I think (I'm not completely certain) that Carver said last year when he took over that he had a 3 year arc in mind, but it could be adjusted if it were to be cancelled early or renewed past season 10. So personally I wouldn't mind if it ended next year with season 10. That way nothing gets shortened and it doesn't get dragged out anymore either.
I seriously wish they would get new writers. Perhaps writers that have watched a few episodes before. If next year is Sam 'not being himself' some way and Dean worrying about him and trying to make him feel better, I say we form a mutiny of some sort to write a strongly worded letter haha.
I agree. The problem for me is the writers. I'm not sure but I think I read that some of them have never even bothered to watch the episodes from the Pilot, and it shows in their writing. Even if the show is in its last years, it's still getting viewers, most of which, unlike the writers, HAVE watched since the first episodes and know the mythology and canon inside out. x Yeah, Sam having something wrong with him and Dean trying to fix it is gettig repetitive now. Even if they just switched it around and made Dean the one in need and Sam the one who puts things right, that would at least be a change! :)
IMO though, they should try for something completely new in season ten, but these writers and the Carver/Singer showrunning, leave much to be desired.
I want them to let us know. Supernatural is my favorite tv show so i want to know when it will end so i can prepare myself lol. What can say, it's almost nine years... But i really believe season 11 will be the last,
i guess they were talking about The Cw shows, and if Supernatural goes for season 11 it will be the longest show of the Channel and for me, seems like that is the plan.
The new writers have generally been some of the best this season (Robert Berens, Robbie Thompson - I do think Adam Dabb has done well too, I know he's been around longer). I wish they'd hire more.
The actors are only signed up to season 10. They can move on if they wish. If they don't then the show might go on. It depends on what else the CW has.
True, but they really should just give a deadline. It's gone on far too long. And while Sam basically committing suicide to save the world may not be wonderful, it was pretty damn fitting and heroic.
I wrote that at IHOP while trying to eat, ha, I used the wrong wording. I meant Supernatural going to 11 seasons means it will be The CW's longest running show followed only by Smallville.
They've wished to move on for a long time. But they're not going to just quit on us. So of course they're gonna stick it out. Haven't you seen the emotional changes in their faces during CC?? Sure they're smiling and joking, but they want to move on with their careers. Go back to movies, or directing bigger and better things. They'll never forget the network that made them WB/CW. But they're not going to stay with them forever either. And CW's decisions, has nothing to do with the boys' decisions. Sooner or later (very much sooner). The actors, won't want to renew their contracts. The show will be wrapped up, and new shows will have a chance to be part of The CW.
To me, the message that the only way to make up for your mistakes is to kill yourself was just awful. We can agree to disagree.
I think they've reinvented themselves a few times and can do so again. I do think they limited themselves by killing off Kevin, but there are still ways and people to keep things fresh.
I'm sure when it does end, they'll let us know. I can't see it going past season 10 or 11. I'd be surprised if there's an 11.
See idts. They know the business, they've grown up in the business, they're not all about Supernatural, they've been in movies, other tv shows. Idt they're staying b/c they think they can't find anything else after leaving. I mostly think it's b/c of the fan loyalty and they give off the impression that they'll stay just to make us happy. They definitely wouldn't have canceled at season 3, b/c the creaters/writers of the show had 4 seasons of planning ahead. So they knew what they signed up for then.
However, everything else has been us. And possibly CW. If anything i feel the boys thought they would at least make it to season 7, and since then it's always been "this will be the last." "No wait season 8 will be the last." Oh no we're sorry season 9 will be the last." Like it's pretty ridiculous now. They have enough money to take care of their families. Get off this show for awhile. Take a break and do something else. And i think they're ready. At least that's my two cents.
I think Crowley shouldn't be killed off after seeing this past episode. If Hell were to remain open through the end of the series, Crowley should be the king. Abaddon would just cause more chaos on Earth. If they continue with Crowley's storyline of gaining a little humanity, maybe he could stop demon deals and try to run Hell as straight forward as possible if that makes any sense. Castiel on the other hand would run heaven with his gained knowledge of humanity and Sam and Dean could die peacefully.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
And if it's Jared and Jensen I'm there all the way x x x
ReplyDeleteHappy it's finally got the ratings it deserves, but please don't... Know when to end things.
ReplyDeleteWell...duh.
ReplyDeleteBUT I fear that even if Jared or Jensen jump off they'll resume doing the show until it's dead rating wise.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure this show can have a final season when they decide on it, there's no need for a cancellation especially since it's doing well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I love the show and FINALLY The Cw recognizes what a wonderful Show Supernatural is, but i do hope they get a season to end.
ReplyDeleteI really hope so
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing 11 will be announced as the last, I cant see Jared and Jensen wanting to go beyond that.

ReplyDeletenothing last for ever
well i do
i agree
ReplyDeletei hate my shows get cancelled and i don't get an answer for the stuff i wanted
but with this we can have a proper ending
as chuck said
tie up every loose end
*Just because it can continue does not mean it should,*
ReplyDeleteI was about to post the same thing until I read this.
The show should bow out gracefully. Hope they have an end in mind
ReplyDeleteFeel like a proud momma, this show is a survivor and will be remembered in TV world. But warm feelings aside don't want it to run forever : J2 are both great actors and have to move on. The show should end sooner than later. Otherwise, it'll end up like Dexter. Next season should be the last.
ReplyDeleteI figured that would be the reaction. Money wise, the CW would be stupid not to keep it on air.
ReplyDeleteShow quality wise, someday they're going to hit bottom.
I thought I had heard once that it was ending after 10 seasons. That may have just been someone mouthing off, though...

Crowley didn't kill Jo and Ellen. Meg did. Well, they killed themselves and she sent the dogs in but. It's Megs fault.

ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of ways to expand and move on from those stories.
ReplyDeleteSeason 5 was a huge ugly mess.
ReplyDeleteIf we ended the show when it started going downhill, then season 3 would have been the last season.
They should end based on what feels natural, and I think that could be a few more years, at least.
I did too. Nothing against Kristen Kreuk but I hated the Clark/Lana stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know that it won't end next season. That's as long as Jensen and Jared are signed up for. He's speaking hypothetically.
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad that season 5, which basically presented Sam committing suicide as being a wonderful thing, wasn't it.
