I feel like we're finally getting somewhere with Aaron and the nanotech. I wonder if this other friend of theirs (I forget his name) that helped then will show up later.
I think the typhus was caused by whatever the Patriots were injecting into the oranges.
Not sure where the Monroe story is going. I don't think taking back the Republic is the right move, but getting rid of the Patriots probably is. I think they need to go back to forming some sore of civilian government.
I love seeing Miles and Monroe in action. It's like Moonlighting or Grant and Hepburn or any other great comedic pair...just awesome to watch. My two favorite scenes: Miles telling Bass off b/c Monroe's one selfless act ends up screwing Miles over and when Bass becomes distracted in battle b/c of his pride in Connor's fighting skills. Admittedly the whipping scene was a strong one as well, but it was so disturbing; I'd rather focus on the lighthearted ones. Could care less about Aaron and the nanites, but I understand the need for filler and alternate storylines, so it's all good.
I love the action between Miles, Monroe and company against the cartel, but the idea of build a new Monroe republic is such a waste of time.
Aaron and the nanotech is far the best part, I don't like at first the idea of bring Priscila's back, but now with a motive and answers I think is fine to me. Can't wait to see who is Peter, Aaron's friend.
The diseases twist in Willoughby could be interesting and things in the White House with Neville family start to keep more interesting.
OK, my biggest problem is that I thought they squandered the introduction, making him feel like just a tool for Monroe's redemption and not a character
-Glad we're getting out of Mexico -Bummed that we couldn't just have our Charlie-Daddy reveal. -Saw a more human side of Conner (perhaps I misjudged him, but I doubt it) -Whipping scene reminded me of Indiana Jones or like Glory/Slave movies, ect -Thought it was nice that Aaron and Priscilla reunited (I feel bad that her husband took the kids and left) Not sure how I feel about them getting back together though. I suspect we will see/meet Peter too at some point. I still have a weird feeling that nothing is at it seems though for Aaron...If it could all be one big astral projection to motivate him???? - Loyd Welliver a reference to Walt Loyd+ Titus Welliver (The Man in Black/Smoke Monster)? Does this go with Aaron's scenes like I think? -Looks like the Patriots continue to be Hitler-esque with there "cleansing program" (but what's the point in wiping everyone out or is there segregation between certain groups of people? -I know Jason put himself/his family in danger, but he still cares about other people which is refreshing (and his parents just won't stop wit the mind games and the need for power).
I disagree. From Gene we get information on why Rachel is the way she is as we see great parallels between them even when in confict, which even this episode continues to make. It also provides us with a nice 3-generational war/family story (like Fringe's final season)
As for Conner, it's only the second episode, but clearly what Conner has potential to add is 1. If being a father changes Monroe and will being Monroe's son change Conner (which we really don't know whom he is yet). 2. If Charlie and Conner become romantic interests, it makes Conner's ambitions (whatever they are -The leader of a Republic) harder, as Charlie might be "a good influence" on him and in addition make it harder for Monroe to just easily turn on Miles. 3. If Charlie and Conner would be blood related, then we see this family is for ever tied and again it challenges Monroe family dubious ambitions). 4. My first impression of was that he is worse than Monroe, but this episode softened him a bit, but if my first impression would hold true, then Conner becomes a major villain, bigger than Monroe and that adds much conflict too!
We're just going to have to wait and see. I hope for Monroe's sake, that he doesn't have to kill him.
Well Tom and Julia kind of deserve to have things screwed up for them I think. Instead of taking out the Patriots it seems they just keep trying to "get in" on whomever is in control, because they want all the power and glory, let alone who knows if Julia wouldn't screw over Tom in a heart beat, where Tom actually has been pretty loyal to her. Jason's discovery is pretty startling...very Hitler-esque to want to wipe [certain?] people out of existence. I thought it was refreshing to see that even after being reprogrammed and dragged around by his jerky-all-consuming father, that he still really cares about other people. But I do feel bad for Jason's bad timing, considering we don't exactly know what Julia's and Tom's plan ("We can still have everything we ever wanted") is...
I really love Tom this season :-) In season 1 he was just the annoying "bad guy", but his newfound dedication to sneakiness is very entertaining to watch !
Right, but my argument for number one is because it's too soon to tell what he is (his own character or a device), because he can't possibly be a full fledge character when only appearing a little over a third in two episodes. We have to give the writers to the end of the season to see if he can hold his own and/or is effected by other people and not just the other way around.
My argument for number two or three is: Read the press release for "Happy Endings" and also simply, I think it's obvious and inevitable the children of the older characters (especially because of the Miles-Monroe relationship) will interact as an additional exploration of this unorthodox family. They will surely make mirrors or parallels with them.
To number four. I'll meet you half way and say, it's hard to say, because again we haven't seen enough of Conner to know for sure either way, but in this episode he was willing to let Monroe live, help Rachel, ect and then later take him up on his Monroe Republic (this later action is conceded) offer, but in the previous episode, we get the notion that maybe Conner had to kill a lot of people to keep "in" with his Drug-Cartel father figure (so there is potential for a ruthless past and a hunger for power/control)
Well as of right now I do think he's a plot device and I'm not saying he should've killed someone his first time out, but maybe show more of his motivation
He whipped his own biological father and turned around and hurt/killed members of his own former drug cartel! So he did do some impressive things (going with your "killing" definition of impressive), but I would say that all of his actions at this point appear contradictory and not very loyal to anything (much like both Daddy-O's).
I never said killing would be impressive, if anything I said killing would make a grand statement based on your comment. The whipping seemed more like punishment for Monroe since I didn't even remember his son was the one doing it, and betraying the cartel was to get Monroe out
And he got Monroe out, because he's not loyal, because Nunez isn't loyal, and because Bass isn't loyal either (<---except Conner may not know this). It's an bomb waiting to go off!
The whipping scene was to have Conner prove loyalty for Nunez, although I suspect that Conner is angry and wants to blame someone for his misfortunes and so yes, it was also simultaneously punishment.(and maybe even one Monroe deserves), but I have yet to see anyone else, besides Miles or the Patriots, beat Monroe up, so this does say something about Conner's personality and ability to inflict pain.
I mean he must have some impact if he sparked this long discussion but I guess it's just I don't feel like any of the things he did were character driven but more plot driven
Another great episode, loved all the Monroe stuff and the Charlie bits were also cool. The best line goes to "Wouldn't you do the same for Charlie?" from Monroe. They really are spelling it out for us, I don't get why they don't just announce it. Anyway, I feel like I am being repetitive but I have major problems with Tom's storyline and I really feel that the character would have been axed hadn't it been for Giancarlo Esposito. I mean, he just doesn't fit with the show anymore. I get having characters going on separate directions for a while (Aaron scenes were great by the way) but at this point I feel like I am watching two different shows within the same hour and that bothers me. I don't care for Tom or Julia at all (I do like Jason though). They need to address this somehow. Anyway, still love and adore the show, I pray for the TV gods that a renewal is in order!
I keep wondering if they're just not going to reveal it, or if they'll waiting till the end of the`series at this point?! I feel like they're having fun tormenting us!XD
I like Tom because he is loyal and there's something fantastically poetic about the way GE plays him, but I do wish we would get on with his story line and either make him a "King" or begin his redemption arc before the season ends...Julia's the one, although I think Raver gives a good " Lady Macbeth" performance, is one character I don't feel that much for at all. (They haven't really let us take a look at where she's coming from...No family background/no character centric back story...) I think Tom is edging very close to The President and who The President [really} is (and thus revealing the Patriots and there probable "black out scheme" to us), along with the fact that new [ethnic?] cleansing program Jason just found is already being applied to Willoghby, which is where his former love interest is...I feel the plots are on the verge of converging, just don't know how many episodes we have to wait get there?!
I think the "Loyd Welliver" character might be a wink to Walt Loyd and the Man in Black/Smoke Monster, as I keep thinking that Aaron's experience might not be what it seems, and is more of a nanite "proper motivator" in getting Aaron to go down a certain path, but I'm curious how his experience will tie back into everything else. -And if Peter Bishop will play a significant role with the firefliesnites??
To me these different places don't feel out of place. I'm reminded of episodes of LOST where we might focus on the barricks, the beach camp, and dharma station along with non Island looking flashbacks all in the same episode and being able to see the correlation through things in the episode and/or series of episodes...Revolution is surely not quite as "tight", but I do see an effort being made.
Please, don't even suggest a Connor /Charlie pairing...I'm teetering on the edge of jumping ship already, I'm so fed up with the idiotic nanites and anything and everything Neville story lines. They force a Connor / Charlie pairing on the show, when the most dynamic chemistry all season has been between Monroe / Charlie and I'll find another way to kill time between 8 - 9 pm on Wednesday nights.
Well, unlike you I'm enjoying the show.I'll wait till the end before I really judge it. And just because I suggest something, doesn't mean I'm all for it, but I doubt we will avoid some kind of relationship between those two characters. Personally I hope Jason or Adam is Charlie's long term love interest. The Monroe Charlie thing I think is silly when you think about that Conner could be become her step-son, who happens to be 5 yrs older than her! They're a fun pair to watch, but I never took it as far as most viewers do.
I get your point with the different places not supposed to feel out of place and in Lost it worked for me perfectly. I was also appreciating how Revolution was doing it last year and even earlier this year but right now I think they are going too far with the separation between it all. Maybe later when the patriots storyline goes to the front and center again they will merge them and it will make sense.
If it makes you feel any better at least for the next episode it appears Rachel, Charlie, and Gene are together...Miles helps Monroe, but it's unclear if they are in Texas too, but I suspect so since the episode after that, Monroe, Charlie, and Conner go to New Vegas...(so they had to be in the same place to "pick up" Charlie!)
Also from just currently watching LOST again at the moment, it's funny how when you watch a show week to week and characters separate for a few episodes how LONG it feels, when you as when you watch it back to back, it turns over much more quickly and isn't a big deal at all! :D
I agree with you that binge-watching and eek to week hiatuses are two very different things.
Regarding Revolution, I don't mind at all separating Aaron / Rachel+Monroe+Miles / Charlie+Gene like they are doing right now, I think it's working well and it's clear it's temporary anyway. At the beginning it also worked really well for me to have Charlie and Monroe apart. It's just the Tom portion that I have a problem with as it's been too long and I can't find connections between the characters. It also doesn't help that I don't care for his character or Julia I suppose (if it was Monroe on his own I think I would be ok with it)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I am not here for Aaron reconnecting with his ex-wife. And way to screw things up there, Jason. Nice going.
ReplyDeleteLoved Monroe snarking at his son again. That was hilarious.
Liked Charlie and Gene trying to kick ass. And oh shit at a typhus outbreak.
I feel like we're finally getting somewhere with Aaron and the nanotech. I wonder if this other friend of theirs (I forget his name) that helped then will show up later.

ReplyDeletePeter is the name of Aaron's friend.

ReplyDeleteExactly Patrick, the guy (Connor) don't have another utility and I think the character don't increase nothing to the show, like Gene for example.
ReplyDeleteKind of a filler/set up episode.
ReplyDelete-Glad we're getting out of Mexico
