  1. Pretty good this year though Before Midnight and/or Short Term 12 deserved Best Picture nods. Only seen 4 of the Best Picture films so far as they are slowly coming out over here.

  2. If Leo doesn't win the award for best actor I will be mad. Hope cate blanchett wins the oscar this time!

  3. Extremely happy with the love for Wolf of Wall Street and Dicaprio in particular, long overdue

  4. Yup, predictable but pretty good nominations... The only thing that bothers me from these is that Before Midnight wasn't nominated.

  5. I agree with everyone who said that Before Midnight deserved more Oscar nods.

  6. Julia vs. Jennifer, which sweetheart will they chose?

  7. I'm really sorry for Rush and Daniel Brühl (Niki Lauda).

  8. Yeah would have liked to have seen him get a nod

  9. Thanks for compiling this for us Alex

  10. I'm so glad that Jennifer Lawrence has another nomination!

  11. What about Inside Llewyn Davis!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I was surprised it was completely snubbed

  13. Yay for The Hunt and Thomas Vinterberg!!! :-)

  14. I wish "Saving Mr. Banks" had garnered more nominations....Emma Thompson was amazing as Travers! And the film was very moving.

  15. This was a really good year for "Great" movies with not many really reaching that "incredible" mark I think. Almost every category has another film (or actor etc) or 2 that could have made the list, but it is really hard to argue with ANY of these nominations in my opinion.

Seen most of the nominated movies except Nebraska, Philomena and Her (watching that this week) and then the documentaries I missed were Dirty War and The Square.

  16. I hope this is finally Leonardio Di caprio`s year he deserve it he was awesome in the movie and look at that second nomination for Jonah Hill.... Do you think Jennifer will repeat this year¿? she already won the Globes if she win the SAG im pretty sure the Oscar is hers

  17. Yes for Jennifer Lawrence getting another nomination, I just adore that woman.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The Academy sure loves her ;)

  19. No surprises really, quite predictable, some are even the ones I root for :) So, okay.

  20. Them and I both! ahah

    ReplyDelete
  21. Same here ahah, major crush

  22. Di Caprio should win that award hands down. It's by far his best role yet and that's saying a lot considering the amount of times he has been snubbed already not even being nominated, in my honest opinion. This being said, I am not sure if he can beat Matthew

    ReplyDelete
  23. that`s what i think too Matthew has a strong chance for winning they both were great on their parts but im with Leonardo in this one....

    ReplyDelete
  24. MM should win for Dallas Buyer's club yeah.. No question about it to me... Best performance of they year by far.. He just transformed himself on every level.

  25. Rush ahd a lot of momentum earlier in the year, but lost out when the other heavy hitters came out. Same for The Butler I guess.

  26. I thought 2013 was a pretty weak year in terms of movies. I used to go practically every weekend, but I hardly went last year. I think the only movie I've seen on this list is Iron Man 3. Oh well, it's not like I respect award shows anymore because they never award the deserving movie/tv show.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tom Hanks should have been nominated he was very good in captain phillips i cant believe that. I hope Michael Fassenbender wins for supporting actor as he was outstanding in 12 years a slave. I Also hope that Jennifer Lawrence wins for best supporting actress and DiCaprio wins for best actor it must surely be his year to win an oscar.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Disagree completely and think the deserving movies and actors are usually nominated and win more often than not.

You just happen to like a different type of movie than most critics/ academy voters.
    Nothing wrong with that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. True enough I suppose. But I've seldom met anyone who actually agrees with nominations, let alone the winners, of award shows.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, just different circles of friends really.
Most people I know don't go to hero films and blockbusters or if they do they are often let down. I have not seen a good hero movie since the Batman trilogy, but if I go to an independent theater and see a documentary or some indie film I'm usually entertained.

  31. I think she may be overrated. I really like her and have enjoyed watching her in movies but to think she may have two Oscars soon kind of takes the shine off the Oscars for me. Especially when I think actresses and actors such as Glenn Close, Julianne Moore, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford don't even have one. Someone it doesn't feel like she's earned it. Hope I don't get flamed for this post - it's just how I feel.

  32. I can't believe Daniel Brühl from "Rush" hasn't been nominated for the "Supportive Actor". That's a complete scandal! I think "Inside Lleweyn Davis" is an overrated movie. Happy that it hasn't been nominated. I think Joaquin Phoenix should have been among the candidates. Good to see "Omar" is among the "Best Foreign Language" category!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Alright fair enough, different circles of friends with different tastes.

I'll enjoy the occasional indie film, if the story is right and it doesn't look like it was made with $5. But hero films and blockbusters are more my speed. Heck if there's not a lot of story and just a bunch of action, I'm game for that too.

I'm just surprised cause I haven't ever really run into anyone who likes all that and agrees with the award shows. But I'm glad you agree with them and enjoy those movies.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I feel the same way too.
Great actress and she has had some good roles the last few years(I loved her in Winter's Bone), but I'm just not sure she has been "The Best" the last 2 or 3 years. This year in particular.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Leo is LONG overdue for an Oscar! He better get one this year. He's one of the most versatile actors in the industry.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why the hell is lousy Jonah Hill nominated for an Oscar?! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  37. I want "The wind rises" to win, but what's with Frozen and all :(
