Justified - Season 6 Likely to be the Last

8 Jan 2014

FX president Nick Grad says "the plan right now" is to end the series, which had its fifth-season premiere Tuesday night (Jan. 7), after Season 6. That would be in keeping with FX's usual m.o. of having its successful dramas run six to eight seasons.

  1. Ooh, I'm so conflicted about this. I'm glad they want to end it with a plan and without dragging it out but I hate the idea of an end so soon. Couldn't they do 8 seasons? :)

  2. Yeah Graham has been saying this since S4 and it makes a lot of sense. I love the show to death it has been in my top 5 end of year list since S2 but they should not drag it out and outstay their welcome. In the end there is only so far they can take these characters especially someone like Boyd who is a criminal and is even going to end up dead, in jail for good or getting out of the game.

I'm happy they know well enough in advance to have been sowing the seeds since last season.

(Having said all of this if they wanted a S7 I would be jumping for joy!)

  3. On the one hand, 6 seasons is a good run and I'd rather they end the show on a high note with a pre-planned ending, than drag it out/have the show go down hill. On the other hand, only 2 more seasons of Raylan and Boyd just doesn't feel like enough and if Timothy Olyphant doesn't find another show soon after, I'll start going into withdrawal. I need him on my tv,

  4. I love Justified, but I am happy with 6 seasons. The first 3 were my favorites, and I thought season 4 was a bit weak. I´m not crazy about the direction they took SOA in and I hope Graham doesn´t do the same to the bad guys on Justified.

  5. Yep I love both Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins. And they have great chemistry on the screen. I´m sure they will have another show lined up for them before this is over.

Why not 8?! We all know that Justified is getting better season after season and will never get worse even after 10 seasons!

  7. They'd better. The two are incredible and you can't go wrong with a resume that includes The Shield, Deadwood and Justified. I feel like with Timothy, he was BORN to play Raylan Givens, and I hope the next show he's in will be half as good and will have a role that's just as good for him and lets him shine. I'm actually less worried about Walton, but I am curious to see what he does next. And yes, the two's onscreen chemistry was one of the highlights of the show and I loved how involved both of them are with the show and how much they care about the show and their characters.

  8. I think it's for the best to have an end date set so they can start writing to that end. We don't want Justified to turn into another Dexter.

A little surprised because as far as I remember Yost in last September said 7 seasons. Maybe it's the effect of Elmore Leonard death? Anyhow, I'm with those ones who say that the show will be missing a lot, but I'm glad they have time to plan a great closure. My only pain is that except Margo Martindale in S2 nobody has ever reached even the nomination at awards. Not only Timothy Olyphant's and Walton Goggins's was/are excellent, but imho the creative writing (mainly the dialogues) are outstanding.

  10. I'm with you on this one three more seasons of Justified would justify my hunger for this show lol

  11. Six seasons and a movie!

  12. not really sure how I feel about this, but I guess if it's the wishes of the showrunners and that they get the chance to write one hell of a finale season, I'd be fine with that rather than have the creativity wane and the show overstay it's welcome, although with the way the show has been going, I don't see that happening.... this is one heck of a show

  13. I completely agree and I doubt Justified is going to take such an appalling direction. I have a feeling we'll be in for a compelling home stretch befitting the show.

  14. Wrong show, dude! lol

  15. If they don't get Ian McShane for season 6 (preferably for big bad), I'll be really disappointed.

  16. Yeah. If season 4 was any indication, the last two seasons will be awesome.

  17. I thought Season 4 was amazing. And it delivered some of the series best episodes in Kin, Decoy, Ghosts, etc. Season 5 is off to a great start. You can definitely tell there's an endgame in sight. And the producers clearly know where they are headed. I'm going to hate when this show ends.

  18. what direction might that be? SOA has been pretty intense in my eyes and in the eyes of others but to each their own.

  19. Oh, don´t get me wrong, I think SOA is great and all the actors involved are awesome. The writing is spot on ect. I just think that all of the characters have become unlikable and I have a harder time watching it when I no longer root for any of them.
I love Boyd on Justified and I hope he stays likeable for the remaining seasons. (by that I don´t mean that I want to see Boyd and Ava living in a beautiful house with their lovely kids - I just mean likeable).

  20. Yeah I can understand that. For me, I had a hard time liking jax because he was doing all of that messed up stuff in season six. Now when he killed alice....I liked him at that point because she was a sick son of a bitch. But him cheating on tara and killing the wife of one of nero's associates because he was afraid that she was gonna rat.....yeah. But I think it was towards the end of season six where I liked him again because he was willing to turn himself in in order to protect tara. But the fact that she was killed....well, personally, I want juice and gemma DEAD.

Anyway for justified, I like seeing boyd in a position where he becomes volatile. I mean I hated him at some points because of his racist bs but now it's almost like I can like him since he is willing to take down all of those who are messing with him (as you saw in the premiere). To be honest, I can't really say if I TRULY like him since he is a criminal but then again, I've done some messed up stuff myself. I guess I shouldn't like myself then either? I dunno haha.

  21. Dexter was terrible. I was ok with season five but seasons six - eight...good lord. I honestly wish I can forget that dexter had seasons 5 - 8 and just ended after four...sigh haha

  22. Ha ha.. :-) No, Boyd is not a good guy and I would never like him in real life, but I just love his character on the show. I know he is a killer, but he is still likeable.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah I agree. I mean people screw up all the time but hey they either learn from their mistakes and do better or they don't. I think boyd is one of those types of people but yeah, I can relate to him. He is in a really dark place and I am sure that we will see that in this season of justified. I know things are gonna be intense. Whew.
But yeah he is likable though he has done some messed of things but some of the stuff he says just makes me chuckle haha. I think personally, I like him because of his chemistry with raylan and with some of his associates.
