  1. This was an awesome episode. I am really liking Black Canary (yes, that's what I am calling her) and Sara is okay too. However, Sin is the real snarky win in this one for me. I was rooting for her to pull through and become a regular.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I hope they keep Sin too but I'm not sure they'll keep her as a regular on Arrow. I can see them introducing Sin to the Flash and making her a regular on that show too.

  3. I had to choose the weapons trading as my favorite scene this episode. Quentin talks to Oliver about Laurel's drinking while Sara listens in came in second and Oliver confessing to Diggle and Felicity came in third due to the good acting in those scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  4. definitely the opening reveal that Sarah was Canary

    ReplyDelete
  5. I went with the scene where Oliver tells Diggle and Felicity about Sarah, mostly because Stephen was great in it, and I know that Dig and Felicity want him to open up and talk about the island, ans it's ok, but they also need to understand that it was a very traumatic experience for him, I mean, we as an audience have only seen 1 year of the island stuff, and like he said, it seems it only got worst. Sarah also seemed to have suffered a lot, and more so because she's a women, I can only imagine what kind of abuse she went through based on what she said. We'll find out soon enough.

I liked Arrow and BC working together, including that little exchange in weapons.

I'd like to add something about Laurel, I don't really care about her (I don't hate her either) but I liked that her almost death at the hands of the Dollmaker wasn't forgotten, and I'd rather see her losing herself in alcohol and pills than being unaffected with everything that's happened to her. We saw it with Thea in season 1, and it was annoying but she got through it, what's wrong with enduring a couple of episodes with Laurel in this state? Both Oliver and Sarah went through hell before they became what they are now, maybe Laurel needs this too to become the next Black Canary.

  6. 1a. Brother Blood reveal
1b. Arrow/Canary taking out the Mayor and his crew

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with everything you wrote about Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  8. That would be a shame since I feel she is the best new addition to the show, but I guess if they spin her off, she could always come back later. Not sure what use the Flash would have for a snarky street urchin though.

    ReplyDelete
  9. All 3 excellent scenes in in my top 5. I ended up voting for the weapon trading as well, but really had to think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I can't imagine what a shock that must have been to people who don't read spoilers. It was a great moment and I liked the interaction between Oliver and Sarah.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I actually liked when Diggle pretty much told Felicity to shut up. She was being as insensitive to Oliver as she accused Oliver of being to Diggle in the premiere. I have to admit that I am looking forward to more flashbacks so we know why Oliver thought Sara was dead the second time and what he did that would make the Lance family never speak to him again. This year the flashbacks are far more intersting than last year.

I don't think making Laurel an addict is a good way to go. A vocal section of the fandom already hate her and this adds fuel to the fire. I would rather see her turning to anger and waling on someone. However if they resolve it in a few episodes, it won't bug me as much as last season. I want to see Laurel's reaction to seeing Sara's alive. I think that will be a major turning point and hopefully we come out of it liking Laurel more.

  12. I'm glad they didn't draw out the Blood as evil plot line too long. It was obvious he was evil. Now all we need if for Oliver to find out around the midseason hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  13. definitely their chemistry during the fight scene was amazing one of my favorite action sequences from the show and that's saying something, when they switched weapons i was sold

    ReplyDelete
  14. The weapons switch was inspired. I always find the action scenes in this show to be topnotch, but this one was particularly excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Other...the interaction between Thea, Roy and Sin,

    ReplyDelete
  16. This is the kind of poll where you *really* need to be able to vote for multiple options. Apart from the Laurel scenes, this episode was pretty much gold. I went with the majority and voted for the Arrow/BC fight scene, because it was kick-ass and the part where they traded weapons was just icing on the cake. Still, just about every Sara scene deserves to win this poll. They were so emotional and well-played, I love the chemistry between she and Ollie. Also, Oliver telling Digg and Felicity about Sara (again, very emotional and a fine performance by Stephen Amell), and the Blood twist in the end which I didn't see coming - I genuinely thought he was a good guy.

I've had moments in S1 when I considered dropping the show because it seriously didn't enthrall me that much. I'm glad I stayed because it's hitting its peak right now, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. When I first learned that Sara would come back from the dead, I eyerolled because I'm tired of these kinds of twists, but it seems to have been a brilliant creative choice. It adds a lot to the show.

  17. The great thing was, they give such an emotional undercurrent to the scene (Oliver pulling back in shock and all) that even for the spoiled me, it was awesome. I feel so much more intensity (not necessarily romantic) between Oliver and Sara than between he and Laurel. I know I keep ragging on her character, but I don't know - something about Laurel just doesn't work, period. It feels like she's dragging the show down.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That was sweet, and I like that Roy can care about and be friends with another girl without Thea making jealous noises - on The CW, that's far from a given.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think if they want that spin-off to work, they have to fill it with more Arrow characters, and she could be the Flash's Roy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm also looking forward to the flashbacks to see how Sara met Slade. It sounded like the three of them spent time on the island together, did they? And if they did, how did they leave the ship and return to the island?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Agreed about S2 vs. S1 though I think each episode since 1.14 was already great. So far Arrow have a S2 creative spark instead of S2 creative slump, and I hope they don't let the ratings affect them but keep doing what they're doing, and I think it's one of the shows that could grow in ratings in the long run if they keep the creativity level the same.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was awful to be able to vote for just one! It just hows how awesome the episode was! I really had troubles here. Three scenes I would have voted for:
    - The reveal scene of Sarah being the BC
    - Oliver talking with Felicity and Diggle about meeting Sarah while on the island (probably one of Amell's best acting pieces yet)
    - Arrow and BC fighting the mayor and the whole swapping weapons thing.

I really adored this episode. In the end, I went for the reveal because of how emotional it was, but I loved it all.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with this entirely (except the part of not liking the Laurel scene in this episode). While I liked the early season 1, I thought it had some issues in the middle (too much standalone episode at some point) but it really heated up in the second half and became really good, all leading up to that mind blowing finale which was one of my favorite episodes of any show last year. This year it's just been incredible, every single episode has delivered and made me anticipate the next one - the show is on top of it's game and I am so glad for it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Agree with this completely. Hopefully the ratings pick up soon!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I must be very naive ahah, but I didn't see it coming. Certainly not "Obvious" :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mine was Ollie and BC trading weapons kicking ass as they go. Hands down, I loved that scene. It was good to see Ollie w/o his bow and arrow, and good to know that BC can handle it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I did see it coming too :) there are supposed to be two big bads this season so I'm glad they revealed Blood being evil already. I think he's one of these big bads and the 2nd could be either Isabel or Amanda (we'll meet her in two episodes) or someone from the league of assasins.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with the first part, the flashbacks are getting better, and I knew that BC was Sarah, but I didn't expect Oliver to see her again. One thing I'm curious about is that Oliver said to Diggle in S1 (and I remember this because I saw the episode not long ago) that his father left him a message explaining the list, and that he didn't find it on the island. I wonder now if he found it on this freighter.

About Laurel, I know that some fans hate her, I even read some comments about wanting her dead. I think that's a bit extreme, and like we always say, this story won't last more than a couple of episodes, probably, and if this makes her stronger, then she'll be closer to become the heroin some people want her to be.
The Laurel/Sarah reunion will be interesting indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am thinking it will be more like the SPN spin-off, where the back door pilot is one of the few things that tie the parent and spin-off together, especially since they are making these 2 totally different worlds. Flash will be about metahumans from what I gather and it feels like it will be more tied to the comics because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think the magnitude of the situation they both obviously shared and the complete shock on Ollie's part gives this scene more intensity than the two will likely have between them in the future when they become more comfortable working together. As for Laurel, it is beginning to feel like they are just throwing plot points onto the board of her overall characterization, hoping something sticks. Time to turn her into a vigilante and be done with it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I look forward to that as well. It does sound like pooor Shado is dead though. I would have loved if Shado helped train Sara.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with you there

    ReplyDelete
  33. it's actually sad that if she's not Tommy's love interest, or Oliver's love interest or tracking down the vigilante, that they don't know what to do with her. The Black Canary arc will be too premature in season 2 and I already love Sarah as the Canary so she really has fell flat this season while I found her tolerable in the first season just cause I knew who she eventually becomes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think season 2 is going to be a major retcon of everything leading up to island time, and for once I am fine with that. The story so far is very interesting. I knew that Oliver was going to figure our Masked Blonde was Sara, but I was very surprised (and excited) that it happened so quickly. I think that gives us more opportunities to mine their rich background, which they did a great job with this episode. As for Laurel, it seems like another pitstop we don't need on the way to making her a kickbutt hero. It is true that Arrow plots, just like Teen Wolf, rarely let you catch your breath in between the twists and actions, which I love about both shows. I don't expect this to be more than a hiccup in the march towards Laurel becoming Black Canary 2.0. I just think that given her reputation in the general fandom, the faster they get her there the better.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I vote for Lila. I think she could make an awesome villain and tie Diggle more emotionally into the story, which his character needs. For me, I don't think Summer Glau can credibly pull off the big bad role in Arrow, and I worry that if it is someone from the League of Assassins we will get another Malcolm Merlyn, cheesily overacting in a cartoonish way. I am however very excited to learn more about the LoA, mostly because those who read the comics are very excited about them and I tend to like the results better than they do.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I loved that scene too and I really love forward to Sin and Thea getting to know each other. I think they could be a lot of fun.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You are more positive than I am. I think we've already seen a brief flash of Thea jealousy and I am worried that it will become a plot line for her. I agree that on the CW, even for shows that go beyond the stereotypes, it would be an easy way to go.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Re Laurel - ever since it became apparent that Sara will be Black Canary this season, it's been suggested that after Laurel finds out everything, Sara will die (for real) and Laurel will take on the BC persona to honor her sister/continue her path. I think it might actually be a neat parallel to Roy joining the fight due to being inspired by the Hood. Although, I'd rather they didn't kill Sara, especially as she's already more interesting than Laurel. Maybe some kind of serious injury that keeps her from physical action at least for a while, driving Laurel to step up in her place.

  39. Tell me about it. I had more scenes on the initial list than any time except the season 1 finale and season 2 premiere. There was a lot going on in this episode and most of it was excellent. I had a very hard time picking the Sara scenes because as you said, they were aweseome. She and Sin are great additions to the show. Having just rewatched season 1, it is amazing how much Stephen Amell has improved as an actor. He played off a variety of characters very well. While I liked season 1 and it ended up being my favorite new show of the season, largely based on the excellent finale, season 2 is definitely much better. Almost everything on my Arrow wish list has come true and they have added in elements I didn't think of that are largely working as well. I look forward to seeing where they take us in the remainder of the season.

  40. I don't know why don't renew their attempt to weave her into the story via her job as a lawyer. It would actually make much more sense this season, as she's working at the DA's office - her going after criminals as a legal aid attorney was pretty ridiculous. I know it's unbelievable that a lawyer as young as Laurel already has the rep/credentials/whatever to do this kind of thing, but it's too late to fix that anyway (apart from the problem with her acting, Cassidy is simply too young for this role; they should have cast someone Amell's age or a little older).

I don't think the problem with her is necessarily that she hasn't become BC yet. It's just that the writers have no idea what to do with her or who she even is, in their minds. So she ends up being the blandly perfect, devoid of personality, girl-next-door and damsel-in-distress who everyone loves, and who the hero longs for but can't have. They need to figure out consistent personality traits and motivations for Laurel or she'll continue being a boring mess.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If that becomes an actual plot, I might need to borrow one of Oliver's arrows so I can stick it in my own eye. Eeeeeeek.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For what it's worth, neither did I! I thought Blood was simply someone who sees Oliver the way most people do - as a spoiled, rich douchebag who doesn't actually give a crap about helping the city (and especially the Glades). I didn't take his hostility towards Oliver as a sign of evilness. I guess most of what he's old Oliver is actually true - he does have a plan to rebuild the Glades from the wreckage, it's just not nearly as benign as he's putting on.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Agree with all this ;)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm not as worried about Arrow's ratings. I think they will go back up and average at a 0.9. Not a bad season-to-season decline. I do agree that it is better this year. The writing is largely tighter and while we haven't really gotten a true standalone yet, it seems like they have listened to the fandom in a general sense and have been focusing on shoring up problem areas. Once we see the main villains in action, we'll be able to see if they are better as well. I like how they tied the Dollmaker to Quentin back story. That is a vast improvement to last season.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The finale was easily my favorite episode last season and is rather high in my best TV episodes list as well. It was simply amazing. That's why I was a little worried this season because I didn't think they could sustain that level of interest from in the premiere. Boy was I wrong! This is my most anticipated show right now.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This is exactly what I think will happen as well. Sara dies and in vengeance or to honor her sister's memory, Laurel becomes Black Canary 2.0. Which is exactly why it will NOT happen this way. Last year I was equally sure that Tommy would become Dark Archer 2.0 after watching Oliver kill his father. It seemed like such a comic arc to go to. While I will always hate that Tommy (and one of the best actors on this show) died, I do love how they made a point of showing us that they weren't going the typical route. I think because that was such a huge success for them, they will do something similar here. I believe the Arrow writers (while seemingly struggling to write Laurel) are talented in story creation. I expect my mind to be blown again by the time we finish Sara's arc.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree that Laurel has been primarily used as love triangle leg, damsel in distress, or plot device introduction to the weekly bad guy. That is a major disservice to not only the character but also Katie Cassidy. They must come up with a viable way to weave her into the storylines while creating a distinct character. Early last season they had the same problem with Thea, not knowing who the character was and portraying her whichever way the story needed her without consistency. They fixed that by the middle of the season so I am confident that they will be able to fix Laurel too. I still don't get the feeling that they have grasped her character though. That's why i would like them to hurry her vigilante story along. I don't think that Sara must necessarily die to make Laurel a masked hero though. I kind of like the idea of them working together. I know the comic book has a distinct path but they've already changed it, so I hope they go further.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Arrow has a way of making this poll hard because there is never just one moment with a big emotional punch, or twist reveal, or excellent action sequence. It is riding so high here that the biggest fun each week for me is discussing all the other scenes we liked but couldn't vote for.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love that BC knows how to use a bow as well. It makes me think there are a lot of things she can handle and excites me about further reveals. I hope we get to learn how she came by these fighting skills since Oliver seems surprised by it. It must have happened after the time he thought she died.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with this. We had talked about how much we loved the finale already actually and I am glad to see that we both agree that season 2 is easily living up to its very high expectations ;)

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Flash is supposed to be featured in 3 episodes though, giving him more time to interact with the rest of the characters on Arrow.
Btw, the original plan was to kill Sin in this episode. I'm glad they decided to keep her but I wonder what is their endgame now for her.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I hope Shado is still alive, but it's not looking good I'm afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am glad they kept Sin as well. She's this year's Felicity, a guest character so interesting/funny she needs more screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My thoughts exactly. Great minds... = )

    ReplyDelete
  55. When exactly? I must have missed it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. When Sin first comes up to Roy and Thea gives her the side eye.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I didn't read that as jealously...more as "who the heck is that?"

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hope you are right, but both that moment and even possibly the first hospital scene could be a jump off for jealous Thea. I prefer to think of it as helping her boyfriend through a rough time, but I'm not a power that be on the CW.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think that the conflict they are building up is Thea learning what he is up to and dealing with it...and I have the feeling that her admission that he is still a hero is already the first step for her to come around.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I like the fighting chemistry between Oliver and Sarah so my favorite scene was " The Arrow and Black Canary take down the Mayor, trading weapons as they go"

    ReplyDelete
  61. Arrow has excelled at fight scenes as a whole, but I especially love the flexibility both Black Canary and Arrow showed in this one.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Agree the fighting scenes are top notch.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I dont like Sin, she is an annoying kid played by some annoying actress who thinks she is all that. This show doesnt have anymore room for more useless teenagers.
