Dammit, I'm worried about TTP. It better stabilize at 0.6 and above or its future will be uncertain. Granted, BatB and TCD are almost certain not to be around next year, Reign isn't doing any better than TTP so far, and we don't know how The 100 and Star-Crossed will perform (I don't think either will be a hit) Still, I'd be calmer if TTP was averaging a couple of tenths higher.
This is a repeat of a comment I've posted elsewhere but:
I checked and last year Arrow lost steam with the World Series. It only had to face one game but the week afterwards was the per-halloween night in which the 8pm hour viewing is typically depressed. Last year, Arrow went from two straight 1.3s to a 1.1 facing the world series and the a 1.0 "facing" Halloween. It recovered to a 1.3 the following episode and would only hit a 1.0 again in episode 9. Supernatural was the same; it fell to 0.8 and 0.7 during the two weeks in question after two straight 1.0s and it would go back to the 1.0s after these two weeks.
It may not necessarily be representative, especially because, as always, with the CW, ratings information is often misleading, but I think we should disregard these two weeks' ratings when it comes to predicting trends for the shows.
Thanks for the insight. I hope you're right, but it does worry me that TTP has dropped a tenth evety week so far - in that sense, this week isn't an isolated instance.
The information is misleading though because it hasn't had a normal week to evaluate yet. The show really didn't fall a tenth from week 1 to week 2. It went from having 1.084 million 18-49 viewers in week 1 to having 1.079 million 18-49 viewers in week 2. That's a drop of 0.5%, it is as steady as it gets. The problem is that by looking at the rating (which divides this number by the total number of adults 18-49), it shows a decline from 0.9 to 0.8, which makes it look like an 11% decline. But the show was steady, that loss of 0.005 million is statistically insignificant and well within Nielsen's margin of error. After this, all we have to go on are two weeks in which the show faced the world series and in which its lead in also happened to go down a lot. I am not saying it will go back up next week; it can certainly remain where it is or go lower, but I don't think it's fair to call these numbers a trend just yet. They are the result of a very specific set of circumstances that likely won't happen again.
Okay, that's good to hear. It sucks that the show was up against such tough competition right from the start, because if you cultivate an audience before stuff like The World Series hits, there's a better chance that they'll come back when it's done. Hopefully The CW keeps up the promotion and people flock to the show once the slot becomes less competitive.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Glad that Arrow adjusted up, but sad the TTP didn't.
ReplyDeleteTTP: Declining every week and has the weirdest numbers .9,.8,.7,.6

ReplyDeleteI really hope TTP starts settling in next week.

See my answer to LittleDreamer above. I think we should ignore this week's ratings.

ReplyDeleteHopefully, yeah ;) I am definitely rooting for the show. I think it's the perfect companionship to Arrow, I love watching the pair together!
